    You mean just as it is silly to demand people get a drivers license - when car builders should just make cars sure to drive for everyone? :)

    I know that dictionary attacks would be simpler to solve than my example, by why not try to remove the SOURCE of the problem - instead of trying to solve the problems people lack of knowledge generate?

    IMO BOTH measures should be used - it is a problem of BOTH lazy(stupid) users and lazy(stupid) sysadmins.

    Ahh - So vagilantes are people sharing css decoding code...

    And people circumventing DRM in Xbox'es.

    The thing is - these guys did what just about any regular slashdotter would do if the subject was something else.

    I am not trying to defend them - but I have a problem with people accusing them "just because they probably broke the law".

    I "probably brake the law" every time I give a rats ass about EULAS if they doesnt seem fair to me.

    On the contrary - regarding the AIX/Dynix code, IBM has been told to hand over the code that they themselves offered to turn over in the previous court hearing.

    They has NOT been told to turn over the code SCO wanted - as they wanted all iterations of the code.

    I'm not sure I really like this change to the xbox controller.

    Sure - the black and white buttons arent that handy when in action, but they are very usefull in a game like madden nfl where you have ALOT of things you can do pre snap.

    I have a hard time imagining how to do without these two buttons and have the same amount of options! :o/

    But hey - since you called it soccer, I suppose you are US, so you are excused.

    And for info - a standard soccerfield is between 90 and 120m long and 45 and 90m wide for national danish soccer matches.

    For international mathces, the dimensions are: 100-110 x 64-75m :)

    Or that would be a little longer than a football field, and quite a bit wider(I believe a football field is 53 yards wide)

    Bad, but not useless analogy:

    If you buy a new car and it gets stolen because you didnt locked it, its definately not the manufacturers fault :)

    But isn't that more an problem with the justice system than with the people using it?

    I believe in most EU countries, the loser pays the costs for both parties - this has the effect you cant do this to innocent people - as you can in the US.

    Or maybe you got your key stolen because of not updating your windows installation?

    I have NEVER seen the problem you are compaining about from people i KNOW have a serious security policy on their computer.

    On the other hand I have heard stories like yours often from people I know have no clue about security, and hom install all kind of junk on their machines.

    It might be a coinsidence - but I have seen it enough times that the odds of that should be low!

    Games on computers is a niche market allready. I would think that most games coming on the PC platform will HAVE to be Linux/Windows compatible to have any chance of earning money in 5 years.

    Hint: Console game revenue is MUCH larger than PC game revenue allready.

    TBH - I hope not - Like so much in the computerworld, its hard to make a tool that does all the jobs great.

    So I'd rather have a couple of tools which are all REALLY good in their own niche.

    And if I want the goodness that I can use in java, I'll use java - if I want to code for fun, I can use PHP - and I sure hope it stays that way! :)

    Havent seen your site before - but VERY nice pictures! :)

    I was just under the impression all imaging data was released...

    Positioning data isnt really that important for creating truecolor images... ;)

    ALL data IS actually released.

    Cant remember links from the top of my head(Search older /. stories), but several people have taken the raw data and composed their own versions of the colour photos.

    AFAIR the things is a bit more complicated though - the cameras have 7 different filters, which have quite a bit of overlap, and doesnt peak at frequencies of light that directly could be used in an RGB image - so some fiddling is requered.

    And TBH - I think its perfectly fine NASA doesn't focus on producing "correct" images if it doesn't mean better science! :)

    I explained my point poorly then(Thats the punishment for not having englisg as my native language :)):

    The thing for me is that if Sun started "fucking" with java developers, I will be almost as bad off as if MS started changing specs to complicate making OSS .NET platforms.

    And tbh - I trust Sun only a little more than MS.

    I have been a C# developer for a year and a half - and damn its frustrating to reverse engineer MS libs, because the damn thing is poorly documented.

    But look at one of my other answers :)

    And personally I love java - and has for about 6 or 7 years...

    You actually said my best argument - lets say MS stopped distributing all .NET tomorrow and that Sun did the same.

    BOTH groups would be basicly fucked - there is no REAL port of any of them - and from my point of view, Mono actually looks quite a bit more promising than Kaffe does.

    If you asked me 1/2 year ago, I would definately put my money on java(and I do all my private coding in java - and has done it for the last 6-7 years or so), but now i start to be unsure - not because .NET is a better platform - but because Mono looks better than any opensource java implementation.

    Actually it was no troll at all - I just find it weird how "geeks" often defend java agains c# - I'd rather have a complete open source solution that fitted the same purpose - with no lockins at all.

    And about the 2 bytes MS wont let you touch - try to enforce that in a danish court of law - I dare MS! :)

    The .NET strategy has gotten some ill-deserved 'buzz' from managers who've heard the spiel without quite understanding the implications if they go that route (i.e. lock-in).

    How is java less lock-in than ,NET? Both are closed products with free alternatives. Java has Kaffe, lots of small jvm's and classpath - .NET has Mono.

    In my eyes you are about equally locked in - but people tend to hate .NET just because its MS.

    My view is that c# is a bit more "clean" as a language, but the classlibrary is much more immature than the java classlibrary.

    Yes, but a PC that consumers actually know how to use - the problem with PC's today, IMHO, is that 90% of the users dont know how to use it - and then we end up with a shitload of machines ill configured, that spams the rest of us.

    Furthermore the devs gets ONE platform to test on - This leads to less testing time needed, which ultimately SHOULD lead to cheaper games(or the cost saving would be used somewhere else - the directors pockets! ;))
