    Terrorism is a very diffuse threat, and the only practical response is that which Israelis practice every day: many, many citizens carry weapons, and when you hear about a terrorist attack in israel, you usually will hear that the perp killed two or three people before getting shot by passers-by.

    Is that really the only way?

    Funny 'cos I see alot of countries with no terrorism and no commoners with weapons.

    The only way to stop terrorism is to make sure the possible terrorists have something to loose.

    1. How is Python performance?

    2. Syntax - the learning curve from c++ to Python in MUCH steaper than going to java/c#. I must admit I have no great experience with Python, but when I wanted to give it a try, I was appaled by its lack of {} and ;'s - plus that the whitespacing is important for syntaxing - It just doesnt seem intutive to an old c/c++/java/c#/php developer.

    There might be valid reasons for the "weird" syntax - but if it makes the language harder to learn for alot of people, it will doom(for a lack of better word) the language.

    Not trying to start a flame war - but that is why I dont use python.

    If you haven't read it, I can recommend "Det generøse menneske"(The generous man?) by Thor Nørretranders.

    He argues, in a non fanatic way, how sexual attraction is by giving yourself a disadvantage.

    He actually uses the peacock as an example - and the argument goes like this.

    The peacock gains this extremely big noticable tail so every fox in the country can spot him. The female thinks - WOW he can survive with THAT big an disadvantage - the rest of his genes must be pretty darn good!

    Its VERY simplified - but read the book(If it's translated to english), its a pretty good read imho.

    Textures are compressed(And you forgot multiplying by 4 - textures are usually 32 bits)

    So a 1024x1024 32bit texture is 4MB - no idea how much it is compressed... Anyone?

    Two problems with this - it needs more bandwidth - alot of people are still on modems.

    I would work for a mmorpg - but not a fps.

    Secondly - how would that affect my ability towrite an aimbot?

    If I really want, I make an aimbot running on another machine - looking at the clients screen with a webcam, parsing that info and sending signals to control the mouse on the client computer.

    How would this EVER be detected by anyone? :)

    I know the example is extreme - but it's on purpose to demonstrate that you CANNOT make a perfect anticheat system - it will not happen.

    My bed is that 99.99999% of those people complaining that keygens has generated their key, has infact been the victim of some virus that has stolen their cd-key(It's in the registry in cleartext).

    Phatbot is a good example - it had the capability to steal keys for alot of games.

    I have had my cd-key for something like 3 years now - my friends even longer - noone of us has had this problem!

    Well - let us hear exaclty HOW you would implement an anti-cheat system that exists on a client compueter you basicly cannot trust?

    My guess is that you are not a developer...

    AH yes - and you have reduced the bandwidth by 68GB...

    Bandwidth actually costs money - If I were to pay for international traffic at my current hosting center, 68GB would cost me dkk 2040 - or roughly $330.

    $330 for two days of work is not too bad for a student imho.

    AND - you assume everyone is using a 10Mb line - on a 56Kb modem the load time would be reduce from 24 seconds to 7 seconds - and with those numbers only 3389 pageloads would be needed to get a net time "profit"

    Uhmm - yes?

    That is why he included the client wm score?

    But your 99% is probably way of - anyone using java serverside does not use the client wm :)

    The development tools under windows blow everything else out of the water.

    Which other IDE's have you used?

    I use VS.NET here at my fulltime work. Its fine - but unstable at times.

    I use Eclipse at home and at a parttime job. Its rock solid, but a bit slow at times.

    So I dont really think that VS.NET is so great compared to other IDE's.

    But do tell me the great upside to VS.NET - that I cant have in Eclipse and KDevelop.

    How many of the linux people use gcc as their compiler?

    I would say that 99%+ is a fair shot...

    Doesn't make more sense to compare against the compiler people actually uses?

    Why cant the car drive itself? It should - I dont want to know any messy things about steering and learn the rules of traffic - tha car should do that for me.

    Basicly, it's the same argument.

    I can only speak for myself - but the code I opensource is DEFINATELY "nicer" than the code I make at work.

    Think about it - everything I opensource could be looked at by potential employers in the future - if they find some shitty code - do you think they will hire me?

    Then there is the issue of pride: When I show the rest of the world what I can do, I would prefer they liked what they saw - that they respect me for it.

    Both these things doesn't really matter when a PHB is telling me the deadline is in 4 hours and we REALLY REALLY need to get this stuff out the door.

    On that basis alone, I would think OSS is more secure that closed source.

    Well - it would make et possible to look at 6 channels at once to find the one not showing commercials.

    7 tuners isnt just for recording 7 shows at a time - it is for recording 2 or 3, and then use the rest of the tuners for PiP stuff.

    And besides - if the price difference for 7 tuners instead of 2 is minor - why not add them - this is definately not a product where those extra $50(or whatever) will matter

    Damn i just love my 1.95Mb dsl line... Or would you call it a 2Mb? :)

    The thing is, IMO, that we DO have a problem - we dont allways talk about the same units and sometimes it mattes!

    When using MiB - NOONE (that knows what they are talking about) is in doubt what you mean - but if you say MB - noone really knows.

    How kan a term that clears confusion EVER be a bad thing? The problem is people like you to insist on using terms that confuses - hopefully, in 10 years noone would be confused when you say 2MB and means 2000000B...

    When I was first trying to make the decision to buy a mac, spending 5 minutes or 30
    minutes "playing" with it at the store wasn't enough. I wanted to spend several days
    on it, using it to do all the things i do now, but in a different enviornment. You
    can't do that in the shop.


    Hmm - But you could play a total of 45 hours of "testing" in this emulator - and still havent done as much as 3½ minut on the real deal? ;)
