    FM Radio is built into the SoC of many phones (Snapdragon) but only the budget models seem to enable it these days.

    I didn't know DAB+ was a common thing on phones; certainly LG made a fuss with their "LG Stylus DAB+" model recently.

    I bought an HP once.

    The power brick had to be replaced in the first month. But that was back in 2009.

    7 1/2 years later, it's still running fine.

    Well I thought Hayden Christensen's character was woefully miscast. Teen romantic becomes intergalactic assassin? Sorry, didn't buy it.

    The biggest shame for me was Obi Wan's act of mercy in that he found Anakin so pitiful that couldn't bring himself to finish the genocidal crybaby off! (of course then we wouldn't have eps 4-6)

    episode 4 was surprisingly good in resurrecting the franchise, considering how appallingly bad episodes 2 and 3 were. :-)

    My first programming job used Visual Age for Java. Whatever paradigms IBM brought over from Smalltalk, they didn't mesh well and the company eventually came up with Eclipse.

    The phones you mentioned run Atom, which is something Intel abandoned for mobile. Likewise, they haven't been interested in cramming a tablet Core M processor into a phone.

    If you've been following the announcements, Microsoft are partnering with Qualcomm to emulate x86 on Snapdragon.

    macOS on a tablet? I personally wouldn't cripple a touchscreen computer with a non-touchscreen OS.

    I'm no great fan of Unity or Mir but for Unixy goodness, Ubuntu Touch would be my choice.

    Also apple does not let run mac os in a VM on non apple hardware. (it can be done but apple's license says no)

    Isn't one of the complaints of 'developers' that 16GB Macbooks that they don't provide enough RAM for those who want to run multiple VMs simultaneously?

    If Linux can be virtualized, why is it not a valid use case to do the same with macOS?

    +1 for the NUC - quiet and with a small footprint.

    If you're cubicle-bound there's not much value in a laptop if you're just going to plug in dual monitors, a mouse and a proper keyboard. At a company I contracted at, we were asked to hot-desk by bringing in our own equipment. The suggestion was we buy laptops but 99% of the time workers sat at the same desk every day, plugged into said peripherals. And rather than take them home, they were chained to the desk overnight with a security cable.

    Laptops do have their uses, naturally.

    The next step in climate talks will be import tariffs on rogue nations such as my own (Australia) that do not have a credible emissions reduction program.

    Declaring their electricity 'green' a decade before the Europeans impose an import tax on goods manufactured from 'dirty' power makes sense fiscally and helps them stay ahead of their competitors.

    Regardless of what people may think about Apple's business practices otherwise...

  21. It has been 59 days since a recall was announced, which is longer than the phone was even on the market (Aug 19 - Oct 11).

    So there has been plenty of time for anyone to exchange their phone for a different handset. Verizon haven't personally telephoned every one of their affected customers to arrange this?

  22. Indeed, I'm not sure how anyone can develop such an emotional attachment to a handset, with less than 2 months from release to recall.

    It has a few evolutionary features over the previous Note 5 (sd card, dual sim, waterproof, usb-c, iris scanner) but not anything I'd risk personal injury for.

    I have a nexus model and it's stuck on 5.x

    Used Nexus 6 phones can be had on ebay for $AU206 but if it costs me two hundred bucks just to get the lastest OS on a soon to be unsupported phone then they really aren't that much better than the competition.

    (Yes, I'm cheap.)
