    Seems like every time Congress has to "do something to save energy", they fiddle with DST. Does anybody ever show how much energy this actually saves? Using a recent study, based on modern buildings that have shaded windows and fluorescent lights running all the time, as opposed to factories lit by skylights, which was probably what they invented this for? My guess is we'd save a lot more energy by requiring everyone to carpool one day a month. But we can't do that, that would be too inconvenient. So we do this instead...

    Once they regulate it, they can tax it. Believe me...once they see the six-figure checks for the first flights going around, they'll want their cut.

    But that would imply levying a tax only on rich people.

    I use an old Pentium 100 laptop for this. It's nice having a battery in the server as well.

    What I love with English is the ability to turn nouns into verbs and vice-versa without shocking anybody (and without even needing to be in Soviet Russia).

    The tags don't give your name away, but your credit card does. Personally, I use cash whenver it's not too incovnenient, but the mjoriy of purchases, especially those over $40, are made with credit cards. The store then has the ability to see what RFID tags you bought (along with the products) and see where you take them.


    How about anonymous, pre-paid debit cards then? I'd use 'em, if only to help enforce my personal budget. I think they were tried before as "e-cash", but the smart cards never caught on here (US). But you could implement it using the current technology.

    In order to realize these putative 5 year savings (assuming I make a decision this year), I have to run Win2K until 2009. Hmmm... NT 4.0 only lasted 6 years.
