the blame rests with microsoft. windows is the only "operating system" i know of that *needs* to be rebooted to maintain regular operation. i'm sure this wouldn't have happened if they stuck with a rebootless unix machine.
if by "crack" quake shareware you mean get a copy of the pak1.pak file from your buddy, then yes, a crack was widely available. that was the only difference between the shareware and full version - shareware came with pak0.pak and full version needed pak0.pak and pak1.pak.
microsoft corp of redmond,wa has filed an antitrust injunction against microsoft corp, also of redmond,wa for deploying 'service pack 2' - a cumulitive update for windows xp users, which has been shown to be incompatible with microsoft's visual studio and outlook.
Of everyone rambling about switching to udp/icmp/ipx/whatever, few if any have mentioned that IPv6 would be a solution to this issue. IPv6 has manditory IPSec so predicting anything but where each packet is going to/comming from will be quite difficult.
anyone who is farmilliar with the greek myth of achilles knows that his heel was the means to his end. allegedly poor soundcard support will hardly be the end of this stellar operating system.
if you own the beach property, do you own the sand and the water?

what if there's a naked girl on the beach?

some pages aren't pages at all. some pages are flash objects, some are.jpg or other image formats. if you can get proximitron or privoxy to insert javascript code into a jpg, then you sir, are a greater man than i.
as for Microsoft, "When they felt threatened by Netscape, it was just another company with a known HQ that could go out and bomb. But that won't work with Linux, just as it didn't work with Apache. Apache creamed them, and so will Linux. Microsoft has lost the server war."

Whitfield Diffie, an engineer at Sun Microsystems Laboratories in Palo Alto and the man behind the concept of public key cryptography, felt that the devices were an invasion of privacy. He created a stir by hacking into his nTAG to put it into sleep mode. And to the delight of some delegates and the frustration of others, he set up his device to do the same to any other nTAG it talked to.
reminds me of the time i used my laptop to 'give a cold' to my cousins furby via it's infrared port between it's eyes.
1] don't run untrusted binaries without letting snorton/mccrapee/avg have a poke at them.
2] (more importantly) don't meet up with any cyberchatters in 'the real world' without 1) me speaking to them, better yet their parents on the telephone 2) a good friend present 3) only at a very public place.
distributed folding is, granted not as appealing to the eyes, but makes up for that with productive results. also makes a decent benchmarking util. win32 screenshot. i like using it with multi-gnome-terminal w/ transparency turned on ontop of a snazzy desktop background image.
Democratic National Committee: Because rebooting is for adding new hardware.
Republican National Committee: Because rebooting is for adding hardware, adding software, regularly scheduled downtime, and should also be done on a daily basis to keep the machine running.
reminds me when my buddy went to defcon this year and had kevin mitnick autograph his newton!
