I think having corporate chat being monitored or logged is a good thing. I communicate professionally and in good faith. Having logs means I have something to point to in case of an issue. If there's anyone I'm comfortable talking with about sensitive subjects, work related or otherwise, we can always take it to a non-corp message protocol, which there are several good options.

I'm impressed they managed to ask *all* the security experts of the world for their opinion.
Layers 8 and 9 can't be politics and money. As layer 7 is described as the layer closest to the user, I've long asserted that layer 8 _is_ the user. With users learning what id10ts and pebkacs are, "layer 8 error" makes for a subtle and safe alternative;)
instead, multiple upstream or downstream channels are used. The real factor in achieving these speeds depends on what modulation type your cable op decides to configure on the CMTS. In a perfect world everything is 256-QAM/128-QAM, but you will often see 32-QAM implimented because the end to end cabling can't support the rf throughput required for higher bandwidth modulation types. The wiki article on DOCSIS is a good place to start for more information.
I'm very supprised no one has mentioned the m3simply yet. I got mine a few weeks back and it's been awesome. It plays clean NDS roms (unmodified exact copies), runs homebrew, and plays music and movies (needs transcoding) right out of the box. It takes microSD cards and comes with a microSD-usb reader/writer. You can find the microSD chips and the m3simply's online for about the price of two NDS games - not bad. You can then download all 872 games (and counting). The best part is you can play all the wifi games over the internet and locally. You can also check out the compatibility list and this comparison chart.
someone steals your linux laptop. they are either so tech savvy that they know it would be stupid to leave the current OS in tact and format it, or they are computer *nix illiterate, can't figure out this damn linux thing, and install windows over your linux. likely the reason the os was left in tact was that it was a working windows install.
having said that your script accomplishes little more than the following command would also do if put in your cron.daily wget -O/dev/null http://server/callhome - i would recommend a dyndns domain in case you need to change the server your laptop is calling home to after your laptop has been stolen.
default dcc save directory is ~ . many users of irc are accustomed to permitting auto accept of files. someone sends you a.profile or.bashrc ..profile is sourced on every login. hmm i wonder what happened to all my filesystems.
normally someone is in their coffin before you start putting nails in it. they still have 90% of the home market and a good 60% of the server market. and until those figures are under 50% i wouldn't go calling anyone dead.
you know its funny, everyone mentions BOTs, but did you think about the nature of the IRC protocol. as if the CIA wasn't redirecting other protocols to their workhorse servers for analysis, it would be pretty bloody easy for them to flex their muscle and have TCP/6667+ datagrams routed there as well.
i used to swear by opera, with it's faster page load times and mouse gestures - i didn't need no stinkin' mozilla. firefox got faster and faster at page rendering and when i discovered the mouse gestures plugin, i dropped opera altogether.

and what's the point in using windows on x86-64 when there are few or no apps to take advantage of such a processor?
that makes as much sense as running msdos on an athlonxp

are we seeing what will be the death of the entry level point and shoot digicam?
hell no! despite being tech savvy, i always have and always will refuse to subscribe to cellular service for various reasons. i know im not alone.

If you didn't have a reason to enable SSL on your IRCD or on your client, now sounds like a GREAT time to do so!

im sorry, serial ATA, you're just not scsi enough. quasi-scsi. you're the diet coke of scsi - only two data conductors - not quite scsi enough.
32bit is sooooo 1998
