Well the thing is that only the Shivan fighters were meant to have that kind of directional thrust, so the Terran and Vasudan fighters don't have them by default. I don't know if there's a mod that lets you do that, but it's pretty easy to mod that functionality in. Really, its just changing a few values. If you'd like to continue this through email, I can help you get that working.
Well, there's no true decoupled flight (we call it Newtonian motion) in FreeSpace, but since the source was opened up, they've added gliding. Which means your fighter can keep moving in the same direction, but you can turn your fighter and face the guy on your tail. There's also keys that let you thrust up, down, left, right and backwards. And by modifying the data files enough, you can get something that mimics real space flight, but its not perfect. There's still a few WW2 dogfighting things left, like a ship's max speed.
I remember reading somewhere that Adams said he intentionally made the different versions of the Hitchhiker's Guide contradictory, he never tried to make them the same, so he just did how it all fit in with the media it was for.

What about Goldeneye for N64?
It had vehicles (just a tank though), dual wielding weapons (dual RCP-90s anyone?), and melee weapons (knives, and karate chop!).
Dude, you didn't add a way to get people to get the reference. How are the countless moderators supposed to now that the reference was from Simpson Episode [2F05] - "Lisa on Ice" in which the following happened:

But seriously, my Dad has an old Compaq 133MHz that he uses to play his MP3 on his stero system and my brother has a 200MHz Pentium Pro that suits most of his needs. The average person doesn't need much to do everyday things.
I however have a low-high-medium end computer for gaming and such, so I welcome the horsepower there. =D
It's interesting to note the branding of NTR around the DS. I guess that goes back to the rumour that the DS was going to be called the Nitro. I find it sorta odd how Nintendo has called this thing the DS almost from day 1, the GameCube was called the Dolphin only until it was fully revealed at E3. Then again, the GameCube/Dolphin was about the only "code-named" project they've had.

I have mixed opinions with your reasons.
5.) No, population is geometric growth. Population will double faster after each time is doubles. Other factors such as disease, birth control, etc will modify it, but its still not linear. Plus we have tons of room still on Earth, its a big planet.
4.) Sorta true. It does have its benefits, but those are more longer term benefits, and I'm not sure its a 1:7 payoff.
3.) Uh yeah. I'm sure that a super volcano will pop out of nowhere without warning surprising us all. I'm skeptical about this one.
2.) But does the public care? I want to find these things too, but does Johnny want to find out the quantum science to why is car breaks down every 100 miles?
1.) There's enough to keep the public mind occipied right now. Terrorism, global warming, personal lives. Space exploration rates in at a "Oh wow, robots. Gee whiz."
And to your final comment:
If you look at history, you notice how everything goes faster as time goes on. It took them hundreds of years to master the seas, but in only a hundred years we've pretty much covered flight. My history teacher said that by the time our great-grandchildren come along, we will be travelling through wormholes.
If that's hard to believe, 100 years ago, if I told you that you could travel into space, you'd think I'm crazy. It's all about how fast things change.
160-something deaths man, first run through ever. I spent months on that game. I'm still afraid of that game...
However in OoT, I died twice on the first run through. I spent around a month playing that, start to finish. That became too easy for me that going 2:1 Iron Knuckle battles were the most challenging thing.
However, the best difficulty I've seen so far is Fire Emblem. It's moderately difficult if you don't care about your soldiers that much, but keeping them all alive is wickedly hard. I spent a many weeks trying to kill Sonia in that water place without losing anyone. Speaking of which, Fire Emblem for GameCube... Mmmmm...
Also, the PS2 got around a 6 month head start on the GameCube and X-Box, and with inferior hardware, look where it got in the console wars.
If I have one complaint about Nintendo, it would be "Your games are way to fricken easy!" Pleeease, let me rack up triple digit death counters in Zelda like LttP! (Wind Waker) Pleeeeease don't let me finish the game at 100% after a 3-day rental! (Wario World)
Anyway, I do see the DS as the winner, as bandwagon-ish as it sounds. I mean, it's coming out in like 2 months! I gotta start saving up...
I think this asks a question, who's killing it more? Sony, or the media?
It looks like Sony is killing it on one hand by boasting the features of the PSP, bar one (Battery Life).
The media is, forgive me for using this just made up word, "N-Gaging" it. Giving it tons of bad press, so much that by launch time it'll be a laughing stock. Now I know it won't go as far as the N-Gage, but so far the "big" press the PSP has been getting is Low Battery Life, and Huge Cost. Doesn't sound too good, does it?.
However, I don't think the PSP will not fail, because Sony has their name behind them (plus re-re-releases of so many cut down PS2 hits). So far just about every comment I've read in this discussion says the PSP will fail. However that's only the opinions of, what, 30 people? I don't think the market is depending on those 30 people to buy their product. How much of this stuff actually makes it to the mainstream consumer?
All of this being said, I don't like Sony, I'm a big Nintendo fan. And I can't wait for the DS, so I can "touch" it...
What browsers are protected from the jpeg virus? I remember IE and some earlier versions of Mozilla being said to be vulnerable to this. This could be my incentive to upgrade Firedragon, or whatever they call it these days.
At this rate the release date will be pushed past the apocalypse. So when you see the four elephants of the apocalypse ride, you know we're... maybe... less than halfway there.
You'll be missed simoniker. Ever since the games section has introduced on Slashdot, it was my most regularly checked section of the site (aside from the main page of course;-)).
I gave up on reading IGN, and gamespot a long time ago. Way too many ads, flash elements, and sponsored garbage. But here, it was much easier to digest. Thanks for making it so enjoyable, and good luck on your new job. =)
PS I think it needs to be said that this color scheme is my favourite (No joke).
That reminds me around 3 years ago there was this site called wwww.homestead.com. It was a humour site telling you that you put too many w's in the site address. In the end it did have a link to the actual homestead site.

I can either:
1) Draw stickmen for the rest of my life
2) "Draw" boxes for the rest of my life
I don't know about you, but those quotes really make it look tempting... Wait, what about maybe both?
I shall make... a stickboxman!
So I can now either:
1) Draw stickmen for the rest of my life.
2) "Draw" boxes for the rest of my life.
Hmmm... those quotes around the draw really make in tempting...
So I can run Windows, on a Mac, running Virtual Machine, which in turn will emulate OSX! Genius I tell you!
