LulzSec was never more than a bunch of script kiddies with more ego than brains. I always figured they would crumble when they saw members being carried off in handcuffs.
Betrayed by your leaders?
Welcome to the real world, punks.
My experience is that you must keep two copies of every paper you send for the rebate. That includes rebate application, receipt, UPC bar codes, etc. My experience is that about two out of every three times they will claim to have not received some part of the required papers within the proper time. At this point you call them up and get a name to send your first copy to. Let them know that you have a second copy to send to your local consumer complaint agency. This is a lot of trouble but it works. I have never had any one deny the rebate after that. Once they learn that you are serious about this they will give the money and go find some one easier to cheat.
If Sony wins companies such as MediaMax will be less likely to produce such products because they will have no protection from liability.
If MediaMax wins companies such as Sony will be less likely to produce such products because they will be indemnifying the unknown work of other companies.
Let the legal bloodletting begin!
I see no details in this "detailed information." I see nothing more than vague allusions with numbers attached such as 15 patents in email programs. The question is which patents in which programs. Some one should acquaint MS with the concept of due diligence and remind them that their first obligation is to stop the infringement, if any. Lawsuits and compensation can be talked about later.
The USPTO has been a laughing stock for years and any effort to reform it should be applauded. Still, this is only the starting point and we will have to wait and see how it changes as it goes though the legislative process. This reform has been needed for quite some time.
In the US, OSHA safety standards require supplemental oxygen if the oxygen percentage drops below 17.5%. Defying this standard risks a worker lawsuit and some very nasty regulatory fines. Testing with gas monitoring equipment will be required to prove the oxygen level if it is ordinarily below the requirement. At some point, some one must do some work on the equipment.
A human at rest may be able to survive quite well at lower oxygen levels but a person doing work may need to consume a higher amount.

SCO Vs. Groklaw

· Score: 3, Informative
FTA:
The SCO vs. IBM lawsuit won't go to trial until a related case, SCO vs. Novell (nasdaq: NOVL - news - people ), has been decided. That case, which is scheduled to be tried later this year, is the one for which SCO is attempting to take a deposition from Jones.
All this talk about IBM is irrelevant. She is being deposed in the Novell case.
The same report that you quote states (page 8) that 74% of those insider attacks are successful to one degree or another. This is highly significant considering most security is located at the network perimeter.
This would appear to be a very one-sided article. There is no detail or statement from blackboxvoting about what was actually done. Only a statement from Diebold about what they think was done.
It does seem that the Diebold machine is weak if there is no way to restore to default level without a specialist flying in for $40K.
Diebold should learn a few things about customer relations. It is really bad PR if a county official quits rather than certify an election using your machine.
Taditional telephone companies were regulated because of the monopoly involved in getting a cable to the user's home.
Broadcast telecoms were regulated because of the scarcity of airwave bandwidth.
Regulation has not been enacted because a competitor feels disadvantaged. Why should this begin now?
This calls for extreme caution. If this works, publishers may be able to use the power of copyright to dictate what may or may not be taught in the classroom. Today the issue is ID. Tomorrow the issue may be entirely different. If it works in science class, it will work in history or any other field of study. Once this power is given, there may be no stopping it.
I think this would bring some honesty back into the system. In reading the donor list you will often find that one person will have himself, his wife, their teenage children, his first and second cousins, their maid, and the dog all donate the maximum amount.
Others will have every employee of their company donate the maximum allowable amount. I sincerely doubt their emplyees are truly paid that much.
Others will pay $50000 to have dinner with a candidate and listen to a speech.
A system which would allow honesty and demand transparency would be a great improvement.
Hypothetically two similar candidates compete for the same position, one with CTS and one without. Insurance costs for the one with CTS will likely be higher. The candidate without CTS gets the job. The candidate with CTS is later laid off. Can you prove in court that CTS had anything to do with this?
You don't seriously think the company will tell the truth about the reasons, do you?
As computers become more common it becomes harder to say.
How much is a letter of the alphabet worth to you? How much is a common tool, such as a screwdriver, worth to you? Imagine if you could be denied the use of these though Intellectual Property laws.
With 95% of the world's desktop market, they would also have 95% of the available funds for security R&D. With that much funding, no one should even be able to come close to their security.
Of course, we all know this is not so.
Obviously we will have to have a government program to do something about this. Also we will have to provide some relief to those unfairly impacted . We can only imagine what scandals and conspiracies will yet be uncovered.
Stay tuned.

This article does not describe a victory. It does not matter if downloads decline unless there is a corresponding increase in sales. Without this the only thing accomplished is to outrage a large number of fans. The real victory for fans will occur when well known bands realize they don't need RIAA any more.
