The public appetite for space travel, battles, and true sci-fi (as opposed to War of the Worlds: LA) has been shrinking for years. It's not just syfy, but every true space opera franchise has been slowly dying for the past decade or so, to be replaced by garbage like the "V" reboot. Even is syfy transitioned to a premium model, they may not get enough subscribers without the ghost chasers and such (I won't walk about wrestling).
These companies are both expanding their security apparatus and also are both industries known to be in love with the college intern concept. I interviewed for several security positions at insurance firms (specifically car insurance) who were hiring something like 5 or 6 security architects in one shot. Try to apply to intern programs there or at big Financial.
Of a very knee-jerk reaction to security here in the US... What I dont get is how Grade B (uncorroborated, domestic, single-informant) information winds up at the top of the threat matrix, unless someone was trying to play a joke?
I think you'll just wind up irreperably harming your child, as when they get to school and interact with kids, they'll be mercilessly made fun of. hey, if you want to be father to the next dylan kleybold, thats up to you, but do it in an isolated area where you will be the only casualty.
China is the main developing technology market now... your main competition problems in the US,EUR, etc. are that you will be dominated by market sway and sentiment in an existing user base. The choice between Yahoo and Google in china may well be like the choice 'VI or Emacs' that some people here went through years ago...
A notebook is really meant for portability... I understand that this way you can cart a full desktop-capable machine short distances, but its a niche solution for people who want to lug things from their office to the conference room and back. Anyone who seriously needs portability (yours truly, for example) will sacrifice some performance... the target notebook market is still businesses and they dont need a p4EE
Microsoft is one of several companies who are also working to combat spam with a "caller ID" system. Yahoo's DomainKeys is another one.

The article is IMHO unnecessarily inflammatory, but the author highlights a problem not only for the embedded linux market but for the entire linux market. The lack of support for what are admittedly GOOD products is gnawing, and makes the enterprise usefulness of some of them fairly limited. You and I might be able to figure stuff out on our own, but Joe CEO wants everything he uses to be backed 24/7/365 by the company making it. And you know what? Hes right.

SPOF. Single Point Of Failure. Its a neat idea, but i dont see enough technological safegaurds in place (read: redundancy) to prevent you from suddenly losing your security, home monitor, and worst of all your PVR all in one shot...
I use steg sometimes to pass messages i dont want out in plaintext or overtly encrypted, but it has to be passed in such a way that it isnt apparent that a message is there (i.e. email to brother 'See these pics of grandma!'). It is not a foolproof method, but its very useful when you realize you cant trust the encryption itself to hide the message.
