The stated deadline for free cases is 9/30/2010. They will re-evaluate at that time if they will *continue* the program but as of now the last day you can get a free case is 9/30/2010. I don't know how much clearer it can be.
The "nonsense" around here is in _your_ post, sir, not mine.
Virtualize an identical instance of your bare metal server and give them access to the VM. Just telling them what you intend to do, and why, should score you more than a few points with any knowledgeable interviewer.
First, they are probably tired of Intergalatic NOC NOC jokes.
Second, they're probably being sued by Apple for running the iNOC.
Third, it's nice to see that we're not the only in the Galaxy still stuck on IPV4.
Fourth, the iNOC seems to have achieved a FTL network connection based on it's ping rate of 0 to a node several light _years_ away. Any idea on how that was done?
So? That's like asking George Bush if he was in the pocket of BigOil. You can't trust any answer you're given by the individual. Everything that Mr. Jobs says on this issue should be subject to a high level of scrutiny. Since you linked an article let me give you a few examples:
In this article Ol' Stevie Boy also says "We're an engineering-driven company, so we wanted to find the real problem.". Really? Apple is an "engineering-driven" company? That's laughable. Especially since he goes on to present his data with "Bars" as a unit of measurement for signal strength, those very same bars that Apple claims are bullshit and shouldn't be used as a real indicator of signal strength!
He goes on to say "We knew if you gripped the iPhone in a certain way, the bars would go down, just like every smartphone. It's a challenge to the industry and we're hoping to contribute to some solutions over the coming years.". Yes, but most smartphones aren't being held by their ANTENNA under normal usage scenarios. While not technically a lie it is certainly a massive obfuscation specifically intended to cover up a ridiculous design flaw.
A little farther down he says "Maybe we should have a wall of PR people to insulate us, but we don't.". This is more of a lie than Apple being an "engineer-driven company". Apple IS a marketing company and they ARE surrounded by a "wall of PR people."
This one makes me hoot with laughter.
"Q: Why the September 30th deadline for free cases? A: Steve: It's so we can re-evaluate. We don't know what solutions may come up by then. Maybe Eminem will come out with a band-aid that goes over the corner and everyone will want that."
So he's hoping that some other fad will happen that solves the problem FOR THEM. It's his stated reason for stopping the giveway of bumpers by 9/30!
Here is another.
"Q: The New York Times says there might be a software fix. Is that true? A: Steve: We just talked about how the iPhone 4 only drops 1 call per hundred more than the 3GS. Go talk to the Times, because they're just making this stuff up. Scott Forstall comes on-stage: It's patently false. We can continue to tune the way the baseband interacts with the network, and we do that all the time, but the Times' statement is untrue."
Poor Apple, everyone is making up LIES about their product! The Times is lying! Consumer Reports is lying! Ars Technica is lying! This should, rightly, remind of you of someone else...Baghdad Bob. Please stop the pity train Steve, I want off.
Oh, and in case there is any doubt about the bars thing here is the relevant part of the interview.
"Q: A couple of years ago you released an iPhone software update that improved reception. How does that relate? A: Steve: We came to the realization about 8 years ago that we didn't want to get into a business unless we controlled the primary technology. And we did that with the iPod, and moved on to the iPhone, where he can frictionlessly distribute software updates because we control it. And now everybody's copying us. But to answer your question, the formula for calculating the bars has been off since the beginning, so I'm not sure I understand your question."
Here's more of the 'people are lying...and rude too!" attitude.
"Q: You've been communicating with customers a lot via email. How has that impacted how you're dealing with the issues? A: Steve: I've always done that...my address it out there. But I get a lot of email and can't respond to all of them. People have started posting them on the web, which is a bit rude, but now they're even making them up. But I want to communicate with our customers."
So with all of that in mind please explain to me why I should BELIEVE Mr. Jobs when he says that the gizmodo article is "Bullshit". He claims everyone is a liar, that this is a prevalent problem among smartphones, that bars aren't a valid measurement of signal and then uses them as proof that other phones suffer this problem, claims that Apple is an engineering-driven company and that they don't have a "wall of PR".
I'd go on but if I did you'd probably have to throw me a life preserver so I didn't drown in Mr. Job's flood of bullshit.
You've missed a large part of the OPs point! You say that QA testing spends much effort finding bugs and glitches but we both know that doesn't mean that the managers in charge are going to FIX them before the game ships!
If they don't fix an issue before the game ships then here comes....THE PATCHES!
In my opinion Hulu and Netflix don't get close at all to replacing the content available on my cable system. Tell me, how's the World Cup coverage on Hulu and Netflix? What if I want to watch a Wyoming Cowboy's or Nebraska Cornhusker's football/basketball/volleyball game?
Setting aside sports for a moment, how about content from the Discovery/Science/History/Military channels? The only Modern Marvels episodes available are from Season 1!
Homes on Holmes from HGTV? Nope.
Hulu and Netflix work well if you're wanting some kinds of content but have a miserable selection for other kinds.
" Whether it is the coal mine areas of our nation or the oil rig areas or the areas being deforested by sprawl and timber harvesting it is not the Ph.D. people that we see doing those tasks. It is left to people who have very rudimentary educations or no education at all."
Listen to me carefully, there is no debating this, you're a fucking moron. It's unfortunate I have to be insulting but I'm afraid that a gentler response will fail to get your attention.
YOU.ARE.A.FUCKING.MORON. I hope that's clear.
There are a LOT of Ph.D. people working in the energy industry. Many of them are, conservatively estimated, 1000 percent smarter than you are. Do you think _million ton_ floating oil platforms that can survive the Bering Sea are built out of tinker toys by unskilled labor from a sketch on the back of a cocktail napkin?
Energy exploration, extraction, transportation, and refinement are extremely technical in nature. Everyone from the Geologists to the materials engineers, to the Physicists are highly educated. If you can't instinctively grasp this then you have no business posting here, you don't have the brain for it.
In the end I'm unsure which is the larger moron, you or Bill Maher. Regardless, you're both fucking stupid.
What your conservative friends are objecting to is a massively bloated government that appears to be completely inept at EVERYTHING regardless of how much money we give them.
If they can't be prepared with the tens of billions that they spend NOW what makes you so sure that they would do any better with additional billions?
My son plays competitively on a travelling team at the 11 year old level and there is one team that they frequently play who uses this tactic. It's unbelievably infuriating that they get away this bullcrap at tournament after tournament! My son's team plays ultra clean and we play 85% or more of our games without a roughness call, but when we play this other team there will be at least three against us!
I'm a calm soccer parent, the kind that's telling the loudmouths to sit down and shut up but when we play this team I want to charge the field and twist the ref into a pretzel! It's so blindingly obvious that this other team is acting, and poorly at that, that I'm stupefied at the referees who give them call after call.
We played the aforementioned team at a tournament this weekend and I witnessed an elbow to the solar plexus so vicious that it left my son gasping for air and unable to move for lack of breath. No call for that since my son isn't a part time actor. 10 minutes earlier though when he used a shoulder to push off a player the ref was all over it, resulting in a PK for a goal. Players who go down screaming and crying in apparently agonizing pain but who are up and ready to take a PK 30 seconds after the ref runs over? How does this happen time after time in the same game without the ref figuring out that they're being played for fools?
In my opinion players who ham it up and pretend to be hurt, at any level of play, in order to gain advantage are cowards who should be booed by the fans and ignored by the referees.
Eventually yes, but until then you're into the whole million monkeys with a million typewriters thing. You could be waiting be a while for something informative or of value here on/.:)
I don't mean to be offensive but this is why you are, and probably always will be, a beta.
Fear of pain is natural and healthy but continually putting off action due to fear is not healthy for you.
Obligatory:
"What do I care for your suffering? Pain, even agony, is no more than information before the senses, data fed to the computer of the mind. The lesson is simple: you have received the information, now act on it. Take control of the input and you shall become master of the output."

Ride a motorcycle for a few years before you question the scenario. Any long term motorcycle rider will tell you that he's spot on. You either learn how to "check your six" at stoplights and be prepared for evasive maneuvers at maximum speed or one day you _will_ have an automobile up your ass, literally.
At stoplights I commonly am watching the rear view mirrors and I'm sitting with the clutch pulled in and the bike in gear so if I see something all I have to do is loosen the grip with my left hand and roll the throttle with my right.
Would you care to guess how many times that's saved me from being rear-ended at a stop sign / light?
Your post is funny, kind of, but there's a few things I'd like to address.
First, becoming a felon removes ALL of your gun rights. Not just the ones regarding automatic firearms. You can't own so much as an air pistol in some places if you're a convicted felon.
Second, becoming a convicted felon is far easier than most people would believe possible. I have an acquaintance who is a convicted felon because of too many speeding tickets. He has a passion for fast motorcycles and on his 3rd 100+ MPH ticket they convicted him of a felony. In Montana. How does a lust for speed justify a felony conviction that removes your right to vote, right to have firearms, and many other constitutional protections?
Third, many felons are non-violent. Your crack about "armed robbery" is both mis-informed and prejudice to the core. There are a lot of people wandering around, I'm not one of them, with felony convictions for bad checks, marijuana possession, speeding tickets, and other tom-foolery that has nothing to do with violent crime.
I understand the humor you were reaching for in your post, but it falls flat when you have some knowledge about the subject.
Wow, the RDF is strong with you!

It's an urban myth that glass can melt? I'm pretty sure that most glass melts somewhere above 1500C.

I too am curious which state the OP deems as solvent. I do know this though, Wyoming is solvent and I'm fairly certain that Alaska is as well.
Texas is experiencing a budget shortfall, estimates vary how much, but I'd hardly declare the state insolvent.
I think the OP is pushing the doom n gloom stuff a little hard.

In 20 years of driving you've never had a semi-driver "short" a turn leaving you with the option of either backing up or getting crushed?
If you drive in the United States I find this so wildly improbable as to question your truthfulness.
