I'm not so worried about the integrity of hardware sites so much as software. But they fall under the same categories. Those that shill and whore themselves out the most get the most goodies and are loved by companies. Those that are hard on product and serious with reviews tend to be ignored. As in, just not taken seriously. The entire press outlet/developer relationship is as corrupt as 1930's Manhattan. Integrity is not a word that should be used anywhere near it.
At least hardware sites SEEM to be giving real benchmarks.
This movie is going to be fucking expensive. As in reallly really goddamn expensive.
I expect a lot of explosions. Terrible dialogue. An incredibly bad mixture of CGI and reality, the likes of which hasn't been seen since the end of Air Force One.
All in all, this is a silly prospect. Shouldn't they be working on more interesting things? I'd suggest something but the news of a Transformers live action movie (which isn't really "new news") has left me incapable of thinking on an intelligible level.
1. How did you manage to get the date SO WRONG?
2. It's only coming out in Japan in July, not America. We'll probably get it late summer early fall if we're LUCKY.
3. Is finding actual news really that hard? This is a press release. A non european/US press release at that.
You've been naughty. You get a copy of Eve Online for Christmas.
Well done Zonk. Way to get news from one of the worst possible sources. Geldonyetich is generally irrational and senseless. An eternal armchair developer and yes-man in waiting, he's struggling through rudimentary courses in college because of his obsession with games. Stop being a dumb sack of shit and start posting ACTUAL NEWS. Geldon does not have ANY point of reference from where he draws his conclusions. Zero. None. He's the type of person you don't want on your side in an argument because he'll make you look like a douchebag. There's a reason he was banned (and recently unbanned) from my website. He's mostly harmless. And mostly a raging idiot.
"If you're a gamer at heart (and have the heart of a gamer) root for Nintendo, as they seem to be more interested in gameplay innovation than making an uber-media-micropayment device. (HD-gaming be damned!) - Anonymous"
Gosh. Rooting for the underdog, there's an original idea. Why would I ever want to root for Sony and Microsoft when all they ever did for me was bring over more original Japanese titles than I can shake a stick at. Damn you Phantom Dust, Katamari, Dai Senryaku VII (Yes, I know, only original to us), ICO, Magical Pengel and Digital Devil Saga and the upcoming Wanda and the Collosus! I want another Mario, Zelda, Pikmin, (a crippled) Advance Wars and Metroid in my stocking this Christmas!
We've been discussing this at f13 after Calandryll posted the news. Without going into the design of MEO, he's answered most of the questions on the scope of the publishing rights.
I play a _lot_ of games, and I'm pretty sure there's no game out there where you can squat and take a cleveland steamer on someone.
Sure, you can pee on people in Postal 2, but that's surely what they aren't implying, or they would have used the word urinate.
No matter how you slice it, the government's (local and national) obsession with controlling what media our children see is unhealthy. Hell, I don't even know how any lawmakers got it into their head that this is somehow important.
"The dual screens were sensibly sized, the touch screen robust and responsive, the stylus well kept, the buttons pretty well distributed, the size and weight of the thing surprisingly comfortable, the list of games as long as your arm and the technical gubbins and service potential far greater than any other handheld."
What a crock of horseshit. List of games as long as your arm. How much did Eurogamer get paid for this article, and why is that kind of blatent shilling on slashdot? Even if Ping Pals was released in Europe, wouldn't it still have something like 13 games (not counting the 2 games supposedly being released this week)? Also, isn't the Gizmondo already released there? Even if not, the NGage has more service potential than the DS (as much as it pains me to say so). In retrospect, I'm not even sure why I'm responding to this terrible whoring. Bad Eurogamer, bad.
The most important thing in this article is the title of the Xbox Next. It's not the 360, it's the Xbox Next. No one would name their system the 360. It's just too goddamned stupid.
Nintendo doesn't really have much on Sony's net infrastructure that's going to be rolled out when the PSP launches. This is basically one last hurrah before they see that they truly don't have a monopoly on the portable market. I guess every dream has to end though. They'd still be rolling in excess cash for years to come if they'd embraced the internet from teh Gamcube onward.
I'll save you the trouble and tell you exactly where this conversation will go. The following has comments on this exact subject from Raph Koster at SOE and Matt Mihaly at Iron Realms (they make big MUDs).
I'd never been to your site or heard of it - despite the easily remembered title.
The rich media ad could be dumped easily by moving the advertisment below the fold on the left to the right above the fold. Stretch out the top banners, make the page your typical 3 column jobber, and boom, you've got more advertising space above the fold and it's relatively unintrusive. Of you can go the route we went at f13 and make everything modular.
On another note, if you want to convince people that your ads are worth reading - don't waste time giving games like Constantine any recognition. Bad ideas are usually just that. Bad.
When game reviewers on the big sites stop writing like robots, maybe [the scores] will stop mattering.
The best judgement of a game (because of the above), is to see anomalies in gameranking.com listings. If IGN or Gamespot or Gamespy or EGM give a review that seems to be an anomaly, ignore it. It's a bought review.
Always read the review giving a game the lowest score. Or stop reading reviews with scores altogether. The latter works well for me.
Without the 3-disc Criterion Brazil set in the top 10, this list doesn't mean shit.
Looks like a bunch of uneducated teenagers made the list.

Themis handles press and sometimes support.
They have nothing to do with the failure of a crappy game. Name dropping a company that has little recognition in the industry as a whole, does good work (afaik) and doesn't actually develop the product just so you can bash them is just poor judgement.
I'm interested in what MMORTS you are playing. I didn't know there was one - and I should know. The only one that comes to mind is in development and it's Ballerium. Recently resuming it's development at years end. So what is this already released game you're paying $10 a month for?
In a market with no competition (save the Conquest mode in MechAssault 2 on the Xbox), why would they lower the price tag? They are the only MMOFPS afaik (Neocron and other shit notwithstanding). A 7 day trial is more than enough to decide whether you like it or not. Don't be a cheapskate.
Uninformed editorial comments hurt everyone, particularly the game in question.
...and terribly uninteresting. Truly a testament as to why competitive gaming should NEVER be on TV. Combined with the 2 hour abortion that was the Gaming Awards, as a gamer I'm slightly insulted. For the love of god, don't try to glorify us. It's about the blood, fun, and fragging. Not the branded 4 kings shirt and hat. Meh, maybe Intel and Dell made enough sales to make the entire thing worthwhile. I guess we'll find out when the next edition comes out.
How is this momentous? It's a free game. It's small. People play it at work. If it generated any sort of income for the creators, it would be momentous for them. But for the whole open source movement? Please. The only thing the top downloads shows is that people would rather pirate good windows games than bother downloading free mediocre games.
Believe it or not, I've played SW:G and there are many games that are far worse on the market and people are paying to play them. Despite your sample size of 1, you do not account for many of the other things SOE has done right and wrong. Also, the track record of Planetside and EQ have nothing to do with how SW:G would/could/was handled. They are different dev teams and different live teams.
Thanks for the comment about Indians though. Because we know there aren't any people over there trained on the usage of computers....BTW can you point me somewhere that may tell me when any [gaming] company had to care about what people think? Particularly ones holding Star Wars licenses in their bag? That's a printing press, not a seal of quality.

Google waved a single hand and created the porn blog. They saw what they had made and exclaimed, "This is good."

Mmm? Shattered Galaxy isn't an MMORTS. I'd like to know what European game you're talking about.

If modelling becomes this easy, paying for "real artists" won't even be necessary. You can hire fake artists. In India.

Corporate websites (Nintendo Power) are on that list, and mine isn't? Fuck that noise. Completely useless data.
Sooooo, no word from Troika yet. Are they just sticking their heads in the sand on this one? The HL2 problems are amplified in Bloodlines.
