I for one do not expect "Joe Sixpack" to go poking about the regestry to fix a 500+ USERS IN A USER GROUP icon problem. In fact, if I catch him doing so he'll have a taste of my cattle prod bofh style.
well... I should say my solution is simple compared to what the powers that be WANTED to do (i.e. put GLUE in all the usb ports). All workstations have their usb, parallel, and serial ports disabled in bios. All mice and keyboards have to be ps2. Non-admin workstations have no disk drives or cd-roms, any installs are done through a shared cd-rom restricted to admins, and any reformats get taken down to the work room and have a cd-rom plugged in for the duration of the reformat/reinstall.
I personally think it's a little overboard, but it does work. And the workstations get no net access either.
Matters relating to the internet should be outside the jurisdiction of such judges. The internet isn't a local thing, it crosses national borders. Allowing any non-global entity to pass judgement on a portion of the internet is one step towards fragmentation.
And talk about turn the DNS system into a tangled weave of crap. This type of thing will completely nullify the idea of ip-address ranges.
Why is it yahoo feels the need to throw a tempertantrum about 3rd party clients in such a way as to disrupt their users. If they truely don't want trillian to use their network, there are better channels to address this. Making their own standalone client would be a start...
Intel reportedly said that with the HyperThreading technology enabled operating systems will report availability of four microprocessors into the system when a single dual-core Prescott is installed. Representatives also confirmed that future Prescott products will feature 64-bit capability.
Didn't intel say previously they weren't going to make 64-bit desktop chips?
This is just Mac/Anti-MS propaganda. He even starts out with the standard windows is so unstable I have to reboot all the time! Which is not nearly true anymore as XP remains perfectly stable for weeks on end. The last time I've rebooted this machine was when the power went out.
I also love the later part of the article when this "Andrew" person expounds on how wonderful OS X is... compared to Windows98! wtf.
Hating MS is one thing, but at least be fair about it.
umm... blurring the line? They ARE computers. A computer is an electronic device that is one thing, and can do three. It must be programable. And it must be able to retrieve, store, and process data.
Your argument is best expressed as spam is an antibiotic resistant infection. As such it must be treated with several antibiotics (Solutions) until there are no more spammers.
The resolutions on camera phones are less than or equal to those really cheep crapy barbie and hotwheels cameras parents buy for their children to play with.
It's a fad, like anything else. First it was text messages, then it was webbrowsing, now cameras. Considering how small digital cameras are now, anyone who actuallys needs to take pictures will just carry around a normal digital in their pocket. The vast majority of cell phone users use neither text messages (you're sending a text message from a fricken cell phone, call them or leave a voice mail jackass), nor cell-webbrowser (eyestrain anyone?), nor phone cameras. It's only a matter of time before everyone is looking for the next major fad in camera "technology."
...but until it progresses to the point where we don't need a surface of cells an order of magnitude larger than the structure they will power to use them, they're still impracticle for primary energy needs.
I don't think we'll ever see solar cells as primary terestrial energy sources though. Cloud cover and night ruins their feasibility, but I'd wager money on them being used to augment other alternative energy sources in the future. Maybe power will go the way of Intel's new chips, multiple sources at lower power instead of one giant one at greater.
A combination of Microsoft's obviously declining userbase and 5+ years of development costs needing to be covered is going to mean Longhorn's pricetag will have to be pretty steep if MS is going to profit directly from it.
Don't get me wrong, I use both windows and linux (mepis to be exact), but I fail to see how it is obvious microsoft's userbase is on the decline. Linux is still very much a niche os, almost exclusively among geeks. Even being overly generous about linux as a server os, desktops outnumber by a large number, and those desktops are almost exclusively windows outside of graphic designers (mac), and some developers (linux/unix).
Just to clarify: There are two types of Exceptions in java. Handled and Unhandled (note, this has nothing to do with if you are handling or not handling the exceptions). Unhandled exceptions do not have to be declared as being thrown by the method nor do they have to be handled by something using the method. Handled exceptions MUST be decaled to be thrown, AND must be handled by what calls the method.
So if you declare a method throws a specific type of exception, any class calling that method must handle the exception or also declare to throw it. In the end, SOMEONE has to handle it, or it will be caught at compile time as an error.
Most of the tests start out with "Well, this program didn't have a 64 bit version so we'll test it all as 32 bit!"
wtf kinda 64bit vs 32bit comparison is that?
I really love javadoc, it makes life so much simpler when generating documentation.

enter your car, and start it with just the key, the government may be to blame, but you need to be slapped.
Interesting that we search far away places looking for signs of life, and there may be some in our own back yard.

it's appropriate: can you imagine a fecking beowulf cluster of these?

Programming isn't an art.
Programming well is.
There is a huge difference between churning out some messy code that 'works' and creating code that is readable and maintainable.

5,000 years of 1. 2. ??? 3. Profit! M$ sux! Linux rulez! Go OpenSource! and IANAL, but here's my legal opinion anyway.

Reminds me of some weird all lyrics:
"Every thing you know is wrong, up is down, left is right, and short is long."
hehe
even EverQuest uses those in their current UI.

When someone describes any limitation on their existing fair use rights as a "very fair and very liberal usage policy."
So if you declare a method throws a specific type of exception, any class calling that method must handle the exception or also declare to throw it. In the end, SOMEONE has to handle it, or it will be caught at compile time as an error.
