Well, Hershey's is rather low-grade milk chocolate. It's mass-produced, and like many things mass-produced, some quality is sacrificed along the way to the quantity gods. Small-batch milk chocolate usually tastes MUCH richer due to the use of fresh whole milk, rather than re-hydrated milk-powder. Think of Hershey bars as "The working man's chocolate". Cheap, easy to produce, and pumped out by the BILLIONS each year.

Also, Milk Chocolate is very sensitive to temperature changes, and can be rendered rancid quite easily. I've had a fresh Hershey's Milk Chocolate Bar right off the assembly-line when I visited Hershey, PA. It tasted nothing like the candy bars I bought in the store, yet it was the exact same candy-bar machine the store-bought ones came from. It's the shipping and shelf time that ruins it.

But there SHOULD BE a "-1 disagree" option. Of course, if you CHOOSE that option, then you should be required to fill out a box detailing your disagreement. Then your moderation should be slated FIRST for meta-moderation, including the disagree reason. This would allow the "I disagree with you" people to vent using mod points, but would also allow the community to balance it out with meta moderation.

While it likely won't account for more than a 0.5% difference, Linux usage IS a bit under reported.

You are describing the Ideal of Communism. I was describing the Reality.

In reality, Communism NEVER EVER maintains the ideal. It basically turns into one of the two following things; Dictatorship/Oligarchy or social collapse followed by Anarchy. Communism, as expressed by anyone, simply does not, and cannot work. No matter how you flower it up with pretty and high-minded sounding language.

Thankfully, GNU/Linux and Open Source software don't follow those ideals, or they would have died out long ago.

And that's one fundamental difference between a liberal and a conservative. A liberal values, at least in principle, contrary viewpoints..

    Incorrect.

While Liberals (IE: Leftists. Not Classical Liberals) pay LIP SERVICE to valuing contrary viewpoints, in actuality they only value viewpoints which are identical to their own. This can be demonstrated quite easily. Are College campuses largely run and controlled by Liberals (leftists) ? Yes. Yet, the MOST liberal colleges are ALSO the ones with highly restrictive speech codes. Speech codes which are used to crush dissent and disparate opinion.

In Canada, an arguably Liberal society, they have the Human Rights Tribunal, which has been using so-called "hate speech" laws in what are little more than kangaroo courts to suppress free speech and the free exchange of ideas. Indeed, the very NOTION of having "hate speech" laws is anti-free speech and anti-freedom. Yet where do we see these laws crop up first? In "Liberal" countries.

Conservatives (Read: Classical Liberals), OTOH tend to value the free exchange of ideas. It falls back to their love of the Free Market. It works for finance, it can work for ideas. Conservatives hold to the notion that "while I disagree vehemently with your ideas, I will fight to the death for your right to express them." The notion of Hate Speech laws fill Conservatives with dread. Because they know from experience that the definition of "hate speech" is ALWAYS fluid, and ALWAYS moves towards POLITICAL speech that people seeking power dislike. They prefer NOT to censor opposing viewpoints, as they would rather defeat them in the arena of ideas for all to see. Conservative broadcasters and hosts like Rush Limbaugh make a regular practice of putting on people that disagree with them FIRST so that their ideas can be aired and dealt with.

The problem is NOT one of "too many" voices, the problem is one of NOT ENOUGH voices. There needs to be MORE range of ideas out there, not less. Right now, you basically get Daily KOS, and DU and their ilk on the far far left, BBC on the far left, ABC, NBC, CBS, MSNBC, and CNN on the left, Fox News on the Center-right, Rush Limbaugh, Hot Air, Michelle Malkin and their ilk on the right, and Ann Coulter and her ilk on the far right.

While the overall spread is good, the real powerhouse voices are still MOSTLY on the left-end of the spectrum. This is why Fox and Rush pull such high numbers. They don't have alot of competition on their side of the spectrum. I'd like to see a couple more center-right broadcast news stations, and one that hits right down the center on most stuff (although I don't know how possible that is). Ultimately, we are made richer by having more opinion, not less. Even if that opinion is one we find distasteful.

GNU/Linux is absolutely the Free Market. Not a free market of MONEY, but a free market of IDEAS. The very same principles that make Capitalism work are the ones that make GNU/Linux work. Only here people are doing it for Merit or personal satisfaction/need rather than money (Although there are plenty of people that make good money off of Open Source work as well.)

The key difference is the mechanic. In Communism, everything is directed by the Central Planning group. Whether that group be a committee, or a single "strong man" everything runs through that central group, and there can be NO WORK DONE without prior central approval. This means that communistic or centralized economies (and organizations) are slow to react to change, prone to error, and monolithic in approach to any issue. It's a poor way of getting things done.

In Free Market Capitalism, people make their own decisions on where to work, what work to do, and whom (if anyone) to work for. They work to fulfill their OWN NEEDS FIRST. Whether that need be for money, or merit. By each individual fulfilling their own needs, the "invisible hand" of the Market brings together all those disparate desires into a cogent whole. This is the very definition of Open Source. GNU/Linux falls quite neatly into this arena.

In other words: Proprietary Software is Communism, Open Source is the Free Market.

The sooner we all understand this, the better off GNU/OSS will be.

This is "The Free Market" in action. People see a need not already covered by existing Distros (or covered, but with a pile of other crap they don't need) and they go ahead and roll their own distro, and then throw it out there in case anyone else has a similar need.

What this guy is suggesting: Central Planning for Linux, is essentially Communism. Nobody gets to make changes without going through the central planning group. In theory, it can sound alluring. In practice, it would mean the death of Linux. Does this guy work for Microsoft? What horrible ideas!

I particularly get a kick out of one of his major ideas: A COMMITTEE! Yeah. that's JUST what Linux needs, a "Designed by Committee" label on it! /sarc

Leave Linux alone. It doesn't need central planning, it works just fine as it is.

I know I started showing my kids how to use the computer at around two, and by 3 they could use the mouse. My kids are hardly prodigies (actually, they both have Autism Spectrum Disorder) but now they can both use the PC with no problem. I've found the Zac Browser to be a great help, as it limits the options kids have and basically turns the PC into a toy they can play with.

I would suggest trying that first. Download it, and sit with your child using it. (Hand-over-hand on the mouse at first.) You will find it to be great bonding time for you and your child, and the bonus is that they learn to do some basic things on the PC, and eventually it will be a nice, kid-safe method of entertainment.
