Not under the law it isn't. And that's all that matters when we are dealing with legal issues.

It cannot be religious bigotry because I am an atheist.

It is impossible for an atheist to be bigoted, since bigotry emanates from religion.

Seriously? You ACTUALLY believe this? Ha ha ha ha ha!!! Wow! I had no idea I was dealing with someone so remarkably IGNORANT.

BIGOTRY You will notice that it has NOTHING to do with religion.

Someone who HATES people of faith for no other reason than they are people of faith is a religious bigot. Sound familiar? That's you. YOU ARE A BIGOT.

Many people of conscience and faith around the state of California voted for Proposition 8 because they disagreed with the idea of changing the definition of a traditional cultural institution to include homosexual unions.

FAR from religious people trying to force their views on Gays, it was the EXACT OPPOSITE: The Gays have been FOR YEARS trying to force THEIR worldview down the throats of people of faith and conscience. To FORCE people of faith to accept a lifestyle choice they find abhorrent. To FORCE them to teach their children that it is OK to live a life of (what people of faith think is,) perversion. That, and many MANY people voted for Prop 8 to send a message to the CA activist judiciary to back off and let DEMOCRACY take care of it, rather than trying to legislate from the bench. This was simply the people of California PROTECTING THEMSELVES and protecting democracy.

It's too bad you are too bigoted and prejudiced against people of faith to understand.

I'll leave you to your little hate fest now, you disgusting bigot.

The Morons are fair-game. Their intolerant, bigoted, retrograde church donated a disproportionate amount of money to promote the intolerant, bigoted retrograde proposition 8.

    Incorrect.

The LDS church donated precisely 0$ to the Prop 8 campaign.

INDIVIDUAL MEMBERS of the LDS church donated rather large amounts. But NONE of that was from the LDS church organization proper.

Incidentally, it is already settled law that Religious people can donate to any campaign they like, and CHURCHES can legally donate to ideological campaigns, just not individual political campaigns. (IE: The Catholic Church donated to the Prop 8 campaign, and it was perfectly legal. However, the Catholic church could NOT donate to any individual politician's campaign.)

Your other comments about the LDS church are just religious bigotry.

All of that aside, LDS church members made up a VANISHINGLY SMALL MINORITY of the money and votes that made up the prop 8 passing majority.

Prop 8 is the will of the people, picking on the Mormons won't make you right, it just makes you a bigoted jerk.

Welcome to the cognitively dissonant world of Leftism my friend.

You see, the rules of political correctness only apply to the enemies of lefties, not to lefties themselves. As an example, behold the behavior of leftist and activist Gays in California over the Prop 8 dispute. Despite the fact that Mormons make up less than 3% of the CA voting bloc that voted Prop 8 in, and Blacks and Latinos voted FOR Prop 8 in overwhelming numbers, the gays are ONLY targeting the Mormons. They are threatening to burn down churches, have sent white powder-filled envelopes to LDS headquarters, and have already attacked and beaten both Mormons, and elderly people.

Note to all lefties: The rules apply to everybody, you don't get an exception.

Oh, and the "round them up" thing? Uh.. how do you go about getting your family members all together? To "round up" is to collect in a single spot, or to gather together. It's a colloquial expression that, for some reason, I don't find out of place when coming from someone living in TEXAS, a state with a long tradition of cattle and sheep ranching. However, I've often thought that once mankind DOES begin building interplanetary space vehicles, we should probably do it on the ground, in specially designed hangars. At least for ships up to a certain size. Obviously, once you reach a certain size level, the ship just becomes too massive to support it's own weight while sitting on the ground. Alternately, due to design restrictions it could be the wrong SHAPE to properly sit on the ground, or is just too damn big to escape Earth's gravity well if launched from the ground. Then having space stations with large construction bays will probably be wise.

But somehow I think that's not something we will have to worry about in our lifetimes. More's the pity.

Best thing to do with these guys? Toss them a Linux Distro in a V-Machine. Most of them will probably already have VMWare Workstation installed. Then they can play with the distro as much as they want and not worry about deep-sixing a production machine by fiddling with it too much.

I remember watching the 10 year anniversary show and the producers and actors talking about how much they hated putting that into the show, and how the writers realized it was a dumb mistake almost immediately. (But not fast enough to prevent it becoming canon. DOH!)

Oh well, I guess if we all had to wait until every single sci-fi weapon was completely vetted for scientific accuracy before it could be used in a show we would NEVER get any shows!

The HMMWV's mission is to provide a light tactical vehicle for command and control, special purpose shelter carriers, and special purpose weapons platforms throughout all areas of the modern battlefield. It is supported using the current logistics and maintenance structure established for Army wheeled vehicles. The HMMWV is equipped with a high performance diesel engine, automatic transmission and four wheel drive that is air transportable and droppable from a variety of aircraft. The HMMWV can be equipped with a self-recovery winch capable of up to 6000 pound 1:1 ratio line pull capacity and can support payloads from 2,500 - 4,400 pounds depending on the model. The HMMWV is produced in several configurations to support weapons systems; command and control systems; field ambulances; and ammunition, troop and general cargo transport.

Sounds like the Hummer can carry quite a FEW 400 pound laser packs. In fact, a light and fast platform like the HMMWV is IDEAL for a weapons system like this. I expect we'll see this deployed within 10 years.

I don't think spam should be any more illegal than billboards, flyers, or direct mailings.

The flaw in this argument is that your three counter-examples (Billboards, Flyers and Direct mailings) are paid for entirely by the SENDER. IE: Billboards are paid for up-front before they are mounted, Flyers and direct mailings have printing costs paid up-front and delivery costs (either the local govt. mail service or paid people to manually give it to you) paid up-front as well.

Spam, on the other hand, is largely delivered on the backs of OTHER payers. Both through the incredibly high bandwidth costs (HOW much of the total Internet traffic is Spam now?) and through ancillary costs such as costs for software and hardware to filter Spam out, and human costs in terms of work-hours wasted manually going through spam. Not to mention the costs to people and networks infected with Spam botnets.

This is what makes Spamming SO profitable, and why it won't go away. Because the costs for Spam are decentralized to millions of people otherwise not directly involved, even a return as little as .01% will turn a HUGE profit. This just doesn't work in the regular advertising world. It's also why it's Illegal is several countries now. It is essentially stealing service from millions of other people and generating millions of dollars of expense for hundreds of companies around the globe, for what are largely scamming and phishing operations.
