The problem with this and other systems is that there is no oversight, or no way to object. The procedures, the criteria to be labeled suspicious is classified because it involves national security. Once your on the list you cant get off the list. The system doesnt go by the fact that you are a known terrorist or something it goes by the fact you have similarities to a terrorist. (Although some people with the same or similar names to terrorist and their aliases have lots of problems).
But the fun isnt ending there. Here in Boston the MBTA police are going to start Random ID Checks. While they claim that they are profiling people behavior and not racially profiling them. THe criteria used is sesitive and not public information (although is based off of Israeli tatics). I was at South Station the other day (A stop on the T in Boston) and there was a man carring a tv who was being questioned by police for being suspicious (he was arab too). Well thats fine except South Station is the intersection of Train, bus and T routes, so half the people on the platform had luggage bags and we not being questioned. As you can see already issues of who being profiled (and I am skipping the whole constituionality of the right of a cop to randomly ID you and ask why you are here. We are not in Nazi Germany where you had to have your papers and a reason to travel anywhere.
Well I probably should get off my soap box now and take a breath. The problem basically with these systems is we are judging people without them knowing, and we are branding them without them knowing, and they cant do anything about it. How would you like that?
is it me or has google decided to go off on many different dirrections recently. I know they have been growing very strongly, but are they going to reach a point where they stretch their resources too thin?
my opinion if your not doing anything graphical (and maybe games) there no reason to need a 3ghz machine with all the bells and whistles, i still use a 180mhz computer for word processing and it works fine and dandy.
Its at apoint that the wait will help. Because most operating systems 98, 2000, me (yuck), XP work on the same computer. What is the incentive to upgrade. I forgot the eactual statistic but isnt there a sizable percentage of the computers on the net still using 98. I know we have two computers at home using 98. And there is no reason to upgrade them. But in like 5 years or so the computers are going to be so much faster. Wasnt it that the specs for longhorn needed dual processors running at 4-6 ghz, a gig of ram and like a terabyte of hard drive space. That is something that these prexisting systems just wont know what to do with. by waiting so long there no way that 98 is going to be able to run on a system like that. Everyone will have to buy longhorn.
eh.. we just have to talk with china and have the great firewall of china stop viruses and worms from going in and out. Or we could just provide them with the patches.
What a great business model. You cant sell CD's because there nothing good coming out these days, and they are drastically over priced. So to stay economically viable you sue everyone. This way you dont havet to pay the artist and keep the money for yourself.
I would love to see what percentage of these agregious file sharers are sharing new songs or older songs.
thats good to hear, because while it is a nice picture and all. I dont think this is the logo that will get them international respect as an alternative to microsoft office.
However i do applaud them for involving school aged children into this project and their efforts to bring open office to schools. This will not only save schools hundreds of dollars (more like thousands) but also will having children involved with the development of such a product has countless educational value.
does this mean that down the line that the profiles being made on me via shopering reward cards, and other membership related cards are going to have to be disclosed to me as well?
We ran a story on a this a few days ago.
It appears that the moderators are being a little more active in the posting process by link to previous stories as well. I tip my hat to you.
forget the fact that the schools are underfunded, over populated. And now will be facing legal charges, and loose resources they had to acquire through other venues because they cant afford to buy them in the first place. How about the governemnt use its resources to go after companies instead of schools. WE have our priorities all wrong in this country. I remember last year there was a vote in my state to use money for schools or prisons, guess which one won?
oh and it is in violation of FCC regulation to interfear with radio communication. And they do have specific regulations applicable to cellular technology.
the b-52 to launch the plane. Will they be able to develop on of there that can take off on its own? or will we always be launching them from the underbellies of a big plane.
Why stop there with a user seeing an ad, why dont microsoft take vertical control of the market, and make it so that the computer is microsoft, the electricity is microsoft, and while at it add binary code too
but dont forget this is a smaller sized hard drive, and they are selling the iPods at about the same price as it would cost to buy that 4 gig drive alone. Here a previous slashdot thread on it.

and only on slashdot can you have two contradictory points describing how a fission reaction occurs and both of them be modded insightful.

and by that token, i could creat something that would get me moded up every time so i can get more karma so i can mod...
oh automated mod... scratch that plan, i will have to figure something else out for world domination.
Imagine where our societies would be if it was still around...
I wonder if these same people could come up with a list of things that we could burn that would actually set us ahead.

I think the later is more probable.
Just check this site out where a bunch of harley riding bikers have created their own monowheel thingy.
Automobile Mag
i second that. Not only was the headline informative but was able to incorporate the topic into a comical presentation. Kudos.
i love to see that, you have a really good counter suit there (some nice pocket change).

which will cause bigger problems first: global warming or magnetic reversal??

i dont know if i can write small enough on the paper to beat the storage capacity. Can I at least use the backside?

would it be possible to make a raid with these?
