    Command Line interfaces only allow control at app startup, whereas macros that can control deep event models (like AppleEvents/AppleScript) can control program state over the life of the app. Very powerful.

    Well, the mac or unix ways are quite different, as I understand (never used Macos). If I understand well, in macos, for example, applescript will start the program, fill some cells, print the spreadsheet, and close the program.

    In Unix, I would create a script (shell, perl whatever) putting together many small programs (sed, awk, seq, lp...) and have the action done as efficiently and as powerfully as on Macos.

    So I think that there is no better way, just different ones.

    I know you were trying to be funny, but I some sound cards come (or came ?) with hardware mp3 decoders, although this is now pointless with modern hardware.

    Well, my 1800+ athlon xp is doing :

    Execution starts, 10000000 runs through Dhrystone
    total time: 4048ms
    Result: 2470355 dhrystone/sec.

    with 1.4.2 on linux 2.6, so the macs are far behind...

    But that's only a benchmark that does not reflect real life.

    You are totally wrong. The point of makefiles (and antfiles or whatever they are called) is to specify the dependencies. So, if your makefile is correctly designed, there should be no problems.

    hard drives are not reliable enough for these purposes. And what's the point now that 1gb flash disks exist ? Even a normal linux distro would fit.

    BTW, I think that spirit is using vxworks and not QNX.

    Most (or all) high-end lasers have stappling modules, so that's hardly an issue.

    As was said before, the only issue is having to sign multiple times.

    I don't know if its always the case, but my logitech wireless mouse actually does have a wire which runs from the usb port to the transceiver. So I guess using wireless won't clean anything.

    I find both Solaris (more precisely gnome) and the hardware pretty.

    Well, it is only a PC with normal, not high-end components, appart from the GPU. And the ultrasparcs are slow (I'm only paraphrasing..)

    Still, it's pretty and it is "cool" to have a sun rather than anything more ordinary.

    BTW the keyboard I have on the ultra10 I use at work looks exactly like the one pictured, and I don't find it painful.

    And it's expensive.

    However, if I was given a computer, I would rather have the sun than a similarly-priced pc, despite its disadvantages.
