What the hell do you expect them to do then Michael? Is Valve just supposed to put up with tens of thousands of people playing their game without paying for it? So does this mean I can find some way to hack the Slashdot premium membership database and just start giving away premium memberships to whomever wants one? Would that be OK with you
Well what if/. decided to keep ads displayed to premium members while logged in? What if they decided to ban you, as a premium member, when you used adblock on firefox to get rid of the banners?
I feel the main thing we need is a Linux game store that sells the games that work for Windows/Mac/Linux and tells the game companies that the sells go to linux..but make the prices low enough that people will want to buy from them. I see some stores that are like this, but they all seem either amateur or non-working.
Personally I would love to be able to find the DVD edition of Unreal tournament 2004 anywhere..A linux store would just be icing.
I don't see how not buying a CD or DVD from a vendor is any different than pirating it, except that you are missing out on it.
If I pirate a movie that is not released yet, I will buy the movie at release for a better quality product and to support the industry. (if the movie is worth it) But they are not missing a single cent from me pirating it because they have not even released it yet.
And if I download one song from a band that puts out a CD full of crap with one good song, I would not have bought the CD anyway, I would have done without it. Again, they are not losing money, just coming out equal.
I havn't seen anyone talk about how this will probably end the Linux/Windows dual-boot machines. How easy will it be to convince your friends to switch if they have to go out and buy a seperate computer just to begin to learn and use Linux?
I think it's more like going to an outside concert and sitting outside the fence without buying a ticket, you still get to listen to them but the experience won't be the same as actually having a good view of the band..etc.
Sharing seems more like setting up a place so people can join you fairly easily as long as they use their own means to get there.
-That may not have made as much sense as I thought it would, I'm going to bed.
How much space are we looking at them wasting on the extras? Are cd's filled with 80 mins of music (like Tool's lateralus) going to become extinct while 30 minute cds become the norm?
Since the NSW government is a large organisation then those companies which deal with the government (which would be a lot) would also have to use star office and so on and so forth.
Yes, but OOo is open source (obviously) I believe if Sun/Open Office became the standard, Microsoft would play nicely with it, so as not to lose any more of their market share than they would have to. The problem now is that while Sun/Open is trying to allow access to Word.docs, M$ is trying to make sure they can't.
Has anyone commented on whether or not (and how) you will be able to transfer saves from the old xbox to the new one?
Will this be possible or am I expected to start all games over from scratch?
Why is this informative? There is a checkbox in iTunes that lets you use an iPod the same way.
I pity you fools and your shiny blue screens!
Comparing the copying of sensitive data to the copying of content generated specifically for and released to the public is apples and oranges.
I thought it was more along the lines of comparing Apples and PCs...

Be prepared to learn the meanings of "Sold Out" and "Backordered" :)
From what I've seen, you can expect G5 iMacs to be coming out soon.
have you tried "emerge debian-installer"? can't seem to get it to work on mine..

Who needs guns anyway? Swords are much more fun.

Would music programs like iTunes be able to rip any of the music from the cd? Is their DRM iPod compatible?
I found the website and I'm still wondering what the hell it is.
.."It's dot com"
It say's on the intro
I probably would have if it had said NSFW instead of NSW.

Could you imagine a beowulf cluster of these?
