Thank GOODNESS my American made car is not built by such heartless people hiring 3rd world slaves. MY car was built by good union workers at good union wage. Instead of some starving unfortunate, MY money goes to a 40 something beer gut attached to a seniority wielding worker who won't step aside for his younger, less senior fellows, refuses to work more then 30 hours/week, makes 75 grand/year plus bennies, and will not waiver, or do a micrometer more than his union mandated job of pulling one lever.
Yet his point is quite accurate. I just got home and tuned in from my iBook instead of my trusty PC at work. I can't decide if this new look sucks worse viewed from IE, Opera, Camino, Firefox or my current Safari. The only common value is that it truely does suck.
The answer it seems to me is MORE data not less. Example: if Amazon tracks the fact that all you ever buy is Puritan Poetry, then just to throw it off, order a bio of Hugh Hefner. You can always toss the book and now the bot is confused. Buy anything you can with cash. Always. if you MUST use a credit card to say: shop at the Apple Store, then make sure you buy all peripherals from Dell. Raise the chaos level as high as possible and the matrix will collapse under the weight of its own silliness
why? I LIKE being a Geek! I GLORY in my inner Geekness! Geeking is the way to go. I am a like 4th generation (that I know of) Geek and he makes 5... He can't help it. Its the genes thing...
Sure he could go out and Jock instead; breaking bones on the football field, suffering permanant brain damage from fights and contact sports, spend weekends in the back seat with Becky Sue and watch her as she bears the first of your many childern at age 16 then, to support this family work in the local gas station, food service, factory forever while serving the (yep you guessed it!) GEEK in the front office.
Naw. I don't think so... The way of Geek is the sure path to a good life...and hey..there are even cute geek girls if you know how to look:)
PLEASE don't make it a gaming machine! My 15 year old who grew up on FPS and side scrollers is now a network gaming fool. He used to play Halo on his PC but after I got him a Mac mini for iPod compatability and to introduce him to that platform (G4 1.44 and the only non-stock thing was bumping the memory) he decided the graphics looked better there and has been hammering it on various Halo servers ever since. He has a new stack of game CDs for ti now too. If you make a Mac MORE game friendly, he will NEVER leave his room!
Microsoft's vision of the future should be as far ranging as the ideas of the founder. This business plan should be as perceptive as Bill was about the future in The Road Ahead... and I am sure it will be..
I view televison via an Eyehome (www.elgato.com) connected to my G5 (with like a zillion external firewire drives attached to it; Who said cheap storage was a good idea?) As to content; that was why God invented Bittoerent.
Ever been familiar with the people who deal with a primate colony? Zoos, government and other test facilities etc? There is one clear indication of some familial relationship: Keepers are not found of women walking through the primate cage area and especially at the half way point of their menstrual cycle. That, is, right after ovulation. Male chimps react in a natural (to chimps) manner to the pheromones she produces; he smells them.
His reacting leaves no doubt that his interest is in procreation. Now, It seems to me that he does not react that way to chickens, dogs cats, (and this is interesting:) Baboons or Orangutan. but he DOES react to humans. This is probably God's punishment for the sin of wearing perfume.....
Actually is this not part of NASA's primary mandate? -Insuring the survivability of +60 year old engineers on government payroll and to boldly go where no pension plan has gone before. If you want to explore space I think there are two means: Abolish NASA and start over, with less pencils to push or....learn Mandarin.
The problem is; email is not immediate enough! If you want good emotinal context expressed in a English sentence, go to a active (and older) IRC channel! RTC faced this long ago and came up with ways to deal with it.
Email's main problem is MS Outlook lack a chat line.
the phone line for my neighborhood runs through my back yard. Should I have prefered bandwidth on that 50 feet of wire and ask my neighbors to pay me for the useage of the rest at a substantially reduced through-put? If the phone companys/cable have easements, then they must treat all uses as equal or, the whole concept of easement is lost. in which case: I want my Piece of the Action!
About 15 years back, in California, even before the current round of rabid security paranoia, I recall a plane that was hijacked by a AIRPORT EMPLOYEE who had the proper security pass to open one of those uber locked doors in the boarding area and walk out on the tarmac.
Personally I think security would be better served by the FAA only being concerned with certifying passengers ammo as being approved as pre-fragmented and not capable of piercing the airplane skin. In the 1970s there was a terrorist who tried to do dirty in a restaurant in Tel Aviv. When he whipped out some weapon and cried "God is Great" in Arabic, he was nailed from four or five directions by law abiding citizens who saw a civic duty and performed it. Security only exists when individuals take personal responsibility. That is what freedom is all about.
It seems a simple solution to me: Provide a new internet service: a small off-shore mercenary force who's sole purpose is to discover and eliminate spam at the source: the spammer.
Being New York, I am suprised that this law does not mandate a 5 day waiting period from the request to reciept of a packet with requisit forms for each packet filled out (triplicate) and no more then 5 packets received in any 30 day period..
Yep. Our short sightdness will pay that developer, and the asbestos, lead paint and other stuff will end up in a landfill. It may or may not one day show up as a "scandal" on Eyewitness News investigative reports (depending on how much the news station manager has invested in the condo company).. Greed and Stupidity always trumps altruism.
Safety: read that: get poor folks off road and force them to buy new cars. The whole idea here is to create something to take the place of 60s built in obsolescence as a way to sell more cars. The Safety Dodge (TM) is a great way to further capitalism-by-mandate. Cars need to work properly "for our own good" -sign here. This safety thing is the latest gimic used to help us boys and girls since we obviously don't know how to oursleves. We need safety everywhere...
For example, take the new proposals for EPA licensed remodelers for any house older then 1978. Must protect all of us from lead paint you know.. and that protection comes from lead pencil pushers best. -Of course, this increases the cost so much that a 1915 vintage house would be too expensive to repair, too much of a burden for Joe poverty to keep, beyond the middle income to renovate, and only available for demolition to the license holding fellow who just happens to have a condo project lined up, the local building commission on a information junket to Maui, and compromising pictures of the mayor with his secretary..... Federal EPA bureaucrats are just another win. Oh but please...Safety comes First!
Yes, but since the server was actually a Windows 3.1 workstation, it kept generating more General Exception Faults when he accessed. 10-12 GPFs/day were accepted as "normal", but someone spilled coffee on the cable modem and then noticed the GPFs slowed (they never stopped) when the net was down. Wally was immediately promoted as the DHS chief security officer.
For an insightful view of this subject written before the Enviro-grant wars.. see: Handler P., and K. Andsager, 1994: El-Niño, Volcanism, and Global Climate. Human Ecology, 22, 37-57
The article seems to show (now this is a layman interpretation) that climate changes and volcanic activity seem related and possible in a casual way.
Recent studies on solar emssions also tend to show that: When the sun gets warmer; we get hotter (there! can I get a big grant so I can study this effect, preferably in a proper climate like the Bahamas?).
Another article I read seems to show that cleaner air is more prone to allow solar energy in and hence increases warming so.. Stop cleaning the air, mandate no more volcanos, and send me to the beach with a refreshing drink and all will be fine.
This is precisely why I bought my Apple IIgs in the first place. It could run all my old DOS 3.3 wares and ProDOS apps and also the new GS/OS 6.0.1 stuff. Over time I gave up the old green on black and stayed mainly in the GS GUI.
Later, this is precisely why I bought my MDD dual 867; It could run my Mac OS 9 wares and also boot into this new OS X 10.2 Over time (and an upgrade to 10.3) I stopped booting into 9 (But still can if I ever want to run Cosmic Ono or other earlier games, or alternately, in most cases, merely load them under Classic) When I swapped my older 486 for my newer Pentium class machines I ended up scrapping all my EGA and early DOS based games (a LOT of games!) because unlike the Apple side, Microsoft made NO provisions for porting the older apps to the new platform. gawd I miss Commander Keen!

Lawyers can actually make decisions? I thought they were too busy cashing checks..
Methinks grammer nazis and lawyers should both partake of the same simple?

Shakespeare did once posit a good lawyer solution.
Methinks his idea was too moderate...
Something else to blame on Global warming?
