I think they're being overly harsh on your comments. While you aren't providing any revolutionary analysis to this forum, I think you're pretty much correct. I wish people would understand that the ends don't justify the means. If I had mod points right now I'd off-set this.
You're assuming that there can't be a technology which is both usefull sometimes and an invasion of privacy other times. These aren't always either/or issues, those seem to be getting rarer and rarer.
Why do you assume that the autmobile club will be able to see your tracker, or that you will be able to see your wifes tracker. If they can, so could I with a little bit of work. It opens up so many possiblities.
Ok. So what do you propose we do to prepare for the end of the world. So far I havn't seen much anything that the average person could do (go hide out in the woods, in my van down by the river?). I got to be honest, if there is absolutely nothing I can really do about something, then I'm not going to worry about it much. The "running around like a chicken with it's head cut off" thing just doesn't work for me.
It seems somewhat overstated right now.

While I don't doubt that it could eventually get that bad, it seems like a lot of ifs have to happen. As it is, I think what a few hunderd people have been killed by the current version (not exactly a pandemic or communicable). I think scientists should continue keeping an eye on it, but we don't seem to be at the "sky is falling" stage we get from the media. At this point, one of the worst aspects to all of this must be the destruction (or possible destruction) of so many birds and the environmental impact that has.
Yes, I'm sure your right about that. I seems like the best you can really expect from Fox is behaviour like the newspapers that report "news" on the front page, then print a retraction a week later on page 12, section e.

So was it your 8 year old who bought this? Or your wife? Assuming your wife is 17+, I think she's old enough to legally purchase this game. Toys R Us really shouldn't need to do a study of your family before selling there products to adults.
In a sense this feature is already available to the "hardcore" folks. All they have to do is delete their character after they die the first time (or when ever) and start over. Realisticly, if they really wanted a hardcore experience nothing is stopping them from setting their own bar that much higher than what the game requires. Given how many high level, supposedly "hardcore" folks I've seen running around in the online RPGs I've been on, perhaps actual permadeath isn't really that interesting to people.
I understand what you are saying, but I think you are missing a bigger picture.
7. Smart people in these other countries we outsourced to create "intellectual property" equal to or exceeding us. 8. They use their "new" skilled workers (trained for jobs we outsourced). 9. They profit.
We've lost machines at work. Big cube farm with lots of lab space. We had at least 1 time in the last year that a machine was found to be improperly configured (or was it infected - can't remember now) and needed to be taken off the network. It took days for us to find it.
I remember playing U4 as a young teenager. At the time I found it very thought provoking, not to mention revolutionary in so many ways. I don't think I've found a game since then that has had as much of an impact on me as it did at that time. U5 was also quite amazing, but not as much so.
His work was astonishing in the late 80's and early 90's.
Actually, only one tribe (maybe a couple) had the tribal lore (pardon the pun) to know how to identify what was going on and know what to do. They had old message that was passed down in the tribe that basicly said, "if you see the water go way out, run for the hills as it will come way back in." It was reported that the other tribes actually just ran out to beaches when the water dramatically went out trying to catch fish, then died as the wave came back in. This doesn't have an awfull lot to do with an "understanding" of weather.
They're running a special right now, selling it for only $600. Would really like to replace my 2 older Hitachi 19" CRTs (1600x1200) with 2 of either this model or the new widescreen Dell (2005FP?). But it's still a little on the pricey side for me.
I find your retirement plan intersting. But, while he may have made claims that he wants this as a model, the real issue is of course the actual implimentation. Unfortunately, he's shown us over and over again during the last 4 years, that his implimentation of things rarely ever matches his words - and usually for the worse.
NO it doesn't! RFI is a serious issue and may still be a serious one with their plan. Try actually reading the article yourself before yelling at others.
Quote: "requires power lines to have been modified to reduce interference with the data signals."
They aren't talking about reducing outward interference with other radio devices, they are only talking about reducing interference between the power lines and the data they want it to carry. There is no mention I could find talking about reducing RFI problems.
Um... no. I'm fairly certain that it's 145 F which is only 63 C. Just concider that the article is in USA Today and most of the target audience will be expecting it to be in Fahrenheit.
There have been IR and UV filters for cameras (still and video) for ages. These work very well at screening out non-visable light. It would be interesting to see what effect they would have on the system.

Only when they are not in power.

Just for the record, the actual quote is:

I guess that would depend on if you held a gun to the CIA's collective head and cherry picked the information for the them.
