Actually, your objection seems to stem from ignorance regarding that to which you object. Podcasting is more than just "downloading sound files." Podcasts are recorded audio content syndicated via the enclosure properties of RSS feeds. So, while it could be simplified to just downloading sound files, it's really much better than that. It's using RSS feeds to "broadcast" audio to Podcast clients who can subscribe and then schedule these downloads.
Put simply, it's waking up every morning to find that my Powerbook has loaded my iPod with new audio while I was sleeping. And what did I do? I just subscribed to the Podcast. It's highly-specialized content offered with the ease of TiVo, combined with the distribution capabilities of RSS feeds and the Internet, while sticking up a big middle finger to Clear Channel and the like.
While it may just be a fad, I don't "spend" any time downloading Podcast content. When I wake up in the morning my Powerbook has already done the work during the night. Schedules and RSS feeds are a beautiful thing. As for "just to play later", isn't that what gets people so excited about PVR's? I love being able to find a favorite show and always have it available on my iPod for when I'm in the car or at the gym. Okay, okay. So just in the car, but my point still stands.
Something tells me that monitoring the Internet activities of the citizens of San Fransisco is about to get a lot easier. Who needs Echelon when the government can route all traffic through it's own system by giving away the access for free?
Why did the original poster list him as "of Gilmore Girls"? If he had bothered to read the profile at IMDB that he linked (instead of just looking for a picture?), he would have seen that he was only on one episode of "Gilmore Girls", yet he was on the soap opera "One Life to Live" for two years and MTV's "Undressed" for another year. Unforunately, it seems most of you fell for this and are were immediately biased based on his one appearance on a WB show.
According to the article, it only works with the Tungsten T3 and Zire 72 models. I guess Palm just doesn't get it. This is why my Zire 71 (with Palm OS 5 and an SDIO slot) ended up on eBay. I knew it would never happen the way it should have.
My understanding of the new Batmobile was that it looks that way for a reason. I picked up on a message board that the design is for some special purpose, and will make sense in the context of the film. I guess we'll have to wait a year to find out.
Schwan's got it right in the U.S. They've been doing home grocery/food/meal delivery for years. When Internet popularity rolled around, they took advantage of technology to improve their business rather than to create it.
I spent three hours last Sunday at the house of a friend of my in-laws removing spy/ad/malware. He just couldn't grasp how his brand new $2800 Windows MCE PC could be so useless in just a month. He was averaging about 60% processor usage from all of that junk. I still couldn't get it completely clean before I had to leave, but I at least got Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D, updated Virus definitions and a firewall installed.
Actually, I do. I'm near-sighted from a laser pen in the library of my elementary school. No, I'm not joking. That's why you shouldn't let kids play with lasers without instruction...and why I'm a jackass.
George: You know, Louise. I think you'll find this amusing. In early Euclidean geometry--
Louise: George, I have to have sex.
George: I used to share that same outlook. But now, I have so many things to occupy my mind. For instance, the atom.
Louise: Goodbye, George. I hate you.
George: What a fascinating turn of events.
Waitress: Mas Caf??
George: Si, por favor.
Which one means to watch out for terrorists? I'm confused.

You do not know what the consequences may be

Funny, when I wrote about this last August, Slashdot didn't think it was good enough.
