You still have to start watching them at the time they start.
I don't know about Dish, but with Comcast cable, it DOES start right when you tell it to. You can rewind and pause, as well as watch it again for up to 24 hours. Channel 1 simply exists to make your selection, after that, you're not on a channel.
You weren't able to pick any movie you wanted, but they had a large number avaiable to choose from.
I thought economics was based upon the idea that we have scarce resources. Since we can make exact copies of music and alot of other data, doesn't that mean the economic value of it drops to 0?
Please don't tell me "those poor waitresses..." Nobody leaves tip at fastfood places, even when they bring you your food and kindly ask you "how many ketchup".
Our minimum wage laws don't apply to the waitress like they do the guy at McDonalds. So yes, it is those poor waitresses. Although i don't feel bad not leaving a tip for a rude one.
The fact is at McDs you get at least 4.75/hr (or whatever it is today), but as a waitress they can pay lower b/c you're expected to make alot in tips.
Elsewise they can put a rather expensive burden on the companies issueing them.
So they don't have to issue them at all.
Expiration dates / maint. fees are just a way they can get money for doing absolutely nothing. They got their money upfront, and if they can keep it without providing a product or service, thats a 100% profit for that card..
think there is a big flaw with the airlines in that anyone can purchase an airline ticket for anyone else.
Well I personally would not have been able to get from NY to FL to attend my grandmothers funeral if that were not possible. I'm sure there are plenty of valid reasons to buy someone else a ticket.
They were responding to a possible report of a grown man striking a teenage girl.
So on the word of one caller, we assume someone is guilty of a crime? I thought one of the things the bill of rights and constitution was supposed to do is prevent a citizen from harrasing another by using law enforcement.
I wouldn't want to put my gaming pc on the internet
So you don't play games on the net at all? Odd...those seem to be the most popular ones now.
Besides, a PC can have much better graphics and sound then an Xbox or PS2. Personally i wouldn't spend that much on a gaming computer either...but the computer gives me more value b/c i use it for more then just gaming.
Asking for ID is not a violation of the fourth amendment, or any search and seizure laws. You do not have the right to refuse to show a police officer your ID. You have the right to refuse to allow them to search you, your vehicle, your home, etc. without probably cause, that is certain.
What if you don't have an ID at all? I know in PA if you don't have a drivers license, you CAN get a PA non-drivers ID, but no where does it say you have to. I know people that have neither.
Why? The other person still decides if he's going to break the law or not by seeking the dealer out and purchasing from him. I don't see why it should be illegal for you to tell someone where he is.
You seem to be assuming that most servers people connect to are physically located near them. I doubt this is the case, and i'm sure there were some major, national businesses with servers in the NE that people from across the country were trying to connect to. Ideally such large companies wouldn't keep all their webservers in one physical location, but i don't think thats usually the case.
Maybe. I know archologists like to find all assets of a society, including childrens toys. So yes, maybe the 4 year olds drawing would be worth someting to someone wanting to know more about our early childhood.
The problem with email addresses is that they can change...i had to remember what email address i had at the time that i signed up. But i do agree that you should be able to choose a password. Fortunatly, i still had the email, but just barely.
You really think that kids printing money on inkjet printers get very far when trying to use them?
When you (or anyone you know) receives cash, how often do you check for the security features to make sure that its not a counterfiet? I'm willing to bet no one you know checks at all when you receive change or get money from a bank / ATM.. Yes, you can print bills with an inkjet. And the second someone handles that bill, it will easily be reconized as a fake, because it doesn't 'feel' like normal currency. There's more to making fakes then simply photocopying money..alot of other things will be missing from those kinds of fakes.
The fact that very few people even bother to check seems to imply to me that it is in fact very difficult to counterfiet US currency. If it were easy to do, don't you think more people would scutinize money more?
. Too easy to counterfeit, much like the higher-denomination US notes.
Actually the US notes aren't, hence the slow pace to change. If the bills changed too much, they worried that people WOULD think the new bills are fakes, because we have such confedence that our bills are NOT phonies.
What the OS reports is really all that matters though. Since the files you want to store are described in base 2 for size, the drive should be sold the same way. Otherwise your missing quite a bit of space that you THOUGHT you had.
No, its to punish those that commited a crime. The only way punishment is a deterant (if it even is to begin with) is to make the punishment far outweight the crime. Which also goes against most modern ideas of justice.
And how is that VoIP transmission getting into your house? I'd assume it's on those same cables that cause the physical limitation to competition you are talking about.
If the VoIP transmission is coming across a telephone or cable company's lines I can see why they would want the VoIP companies to have to play by the same rules.
You're already paying for it. If you have DSL, you're paying for it fairly directly. If you have cable, you're paying for it indirectly (the cable co. pays the phone co. to hang wires on its polls. Even if thats not the case, the CABLE company owns the wire you're sending vioce over with VoIP...don't see where the local telco comes in at all.). Either way, the wire is ALREADY paid for.
Ok, I'm failing to get through to you. The idea is the abstract plot. The experession are the details of the plot and the characters. Thats not the idea, thats an expression of the idea.
Here are a few links that i hope will help clear things up. I'm not trying to argue my point of view, i'm trying to explain how things have been defined by law.
http://www.edwardsamuels.com/copyright/beyond/ar ti cles/ideapt1-20.htm http://www.digital-law-online .com/lpdi1.0/treatise 9.html http://www.shsu.edu/~lib_www/resources/cop yright.h tml http://www.ivanhoffman.com/facts.html
Unfortunatly no one seems to come right out and saw exactly what an expression of an idea is, but if you read the links supplied, you'll see that the expression is pretty specific in what it covers (see especially the last link, the section Protected Expression.
I could reasonablly take the basic plot of any book or move, add and delete certain characters, and change their names, and get my own copyright. Think about it again, in terms of the haunted house movie. The idea is that people move into a house, discover its haunted, and the ghosts attempt to chase them away. Many movies follow this format: the haunting, the upcoming eddy murphy movie (forget the name), aminiville horror, etc. All have the same basic plot, but none infringe upon the others copyright because the expression (or details) are different.
Children, however, as well as being highly impressionable making them even more susceptible to the effects of these activities
Parenting. That is the MOST infulental thing in a childs life, especiallyi when they are very young. The earlier the better.
They may not be legally responsible, but everybody is somewhat socially responsible for children (in one way or another).
No, they are not. Should i be responsible for feeding other peoples children too? Clothing them? Teaching them values? No, thast rediculous.
That idea might be compeltely off the wall to most, but here's my response to it: I did not decide to have those children. I had no say in it. If i am to accept responsiblity for other peoples children, then i should get a say in whether they have children or not. Since i had no say in it, i have no responsiblity to their children. Children are the SOLE responsibility of the parents. There's really no way to argue against that, unless you think that other people should be responsible for everyone else's bad choices.
Should you be responsible to help rebuild someone's house because they built it in a flood plain? Should i be responsible for helping someone if they choose to gamble away all their money?
Or should i be punsihed at all because someone else chose to rob a bank? Is that society's responsiblity as well? Are you going to argue that society is responsible for his actions? I surely hope not.
I know we agree about this 'video games cause violence', but i strongly disagree that anyone is responsible for what happened except for the teens and their parents. There is no one else to blame.
What responsibility does anyone have to not sell a gun to a minor (or person w/o a license)? What responsibility does the clerk at the LCBO (in Ontario, naturally) have to reject sales to persons under 19?
These items are inherently more dangerous then a video game. Personally, i wouldn't mind seeing drinking age eliminated. As for the guns, while not allowed to own one when i was younger, in the scouts i WAS allowed to fire one.
What responsibility does the corner store clerk have to not sell lottery tickets to people under 18 (perhaps the most appropriate example here).
I see no problem selling them to minors. Seems kinda silly to me personally. We let kids play other games of chance all the time; Monopoly, card games, etc.
The fact is there are regulations in place. The ratings on the game box are put there by an authoritative organization, and the law has stated that it should not be sold to minors.
Maybe in canada. In the US it is not a LAW that the ratings be enforced for video games or movies. It is the individual stores that decide to enforce the policy. In this case, the 'kids' are 15 and 16..should be plenty old enough to handle a video game. The fact that they have reached this age and NOT gotten a grasp on reality is a seperate problem, unrelated to video games at all.
When I went to see Jackass: The Movie, I was carded twice because the film regulation board was there keeping an eye on things. The fact is, these organizations exist, and they exist for a reason. That is why I called the person who sold the game to a minor negligent -- I am still putting the parents at fault.
Yes, they exist so that parents can shift the burden of parenting onto society instead of doing it themselves. Its not going to solve any perceived problems.
The fact is that movies, video games, and music are NOT responsible in the slightest for what these kids did. I, and i'm sure most others, saw violent movies when we were younger then 17, yet 99.9% of people that have DON'T end up shooting people up, or raping, or stealing, etc. So why is it that when some teens say they were copying the game (a game played by MILLIONS of teens), its the games fault? Its not, and since its not, there really isn't a reason for these ratings to exist in the first place.
Its either easier to blame the games then take responsibility for raising your kids, or people just can't accept that maybe some kids really are monsters, devoid of the morals most of us share. Either way, to blame the store that sells a game is absurd beyond belief.
You still have to start watching them at the time they start.

Copyright infringement is still wrong.

Except that you buy a 6 pack every other day...hmm..

Ask that to some citizens of former East Germany. I think you'll find you're wrong..
Maybe. I know archologists like to find all assets of a society, including childrens toys. So yes, maybe the 4 year olds drawing would be worth someting to someone wanting to know more about our early childhood.
