I think that's the point... people tend to have friends they know from work or school, we don't know the people we live around. This gives geeks a chance to meet people around them to, for instance, play badminton. I'm not going to look for anyone, but I can certainly understand why others would want to.
By the way, there aren't many neighborhoods registered right now. I just checked out 4 or 5 zip codes and none of them had any...
What dissapoints me is that it only holds 20B. Larger models are definitely needed. 20GB will fit my music collection just fine, but when I start putting movies on it I'm going to need a bit more. Hell, there are people who buy 80GB players _just_ for music.
I agree, it's important to have the features of you competitors, and this can be seen as a major one. Especially with all the hubub about PIM at the aKadamy. Browsers are starting to flock to PIM, look at the popularity of such plugins for IE.
Well, first of all, (as the article submitter) I went out of my way to make it clear I was expressing an opinion. In hindsight, I probably should have just posted that in a comment, but I don't think it was rediculous to have an opinion to discuss put in a news article. Secondly, I maintain that it was warranted. It certainly wasn't flaming. Look at dialogues such as this and tell me it doesn't look as if they went out of their way to make it look like the Explorer copy/download one. That's not necessarily a bad thing, it helps converts. I think they could have made it a little better, however. Maybe have this in the status bar, or show a directory tree, or something.
That's not my site... The bit about Windows was a joke, since I thought there would be a million comments saying as such... though there is a lot of truth to it. Seriously, look at the screenshots of some of those dialogues, do you not see a striking resembalence to Windows/Internet Explorer, as I stated?
Indeed. There's an outside chance that in 40,000 years Voyager will enter another solar system with its record (the plaque was on the Pioneers). The chances that a civilization exists there, and that they will notice and intercept it are unbelievably small. Why bother?
From the article: "The Atlas 2 is giving way to the Atlas 5, a more versatile and less expensive rocket that is in contention with the new Boeing Co Delta 4 and other systems to become the primary launch vehicle for NASA's new moon program, which is scheduled to fly in the next decade."
As with all science, a few people have come up with crazy theories that differ from this. For instance, James McCanney. A debunking of his stuff can be found here.
I remember an/. poll asking how many LEDs were on right then, or something, and a good percentage (myself included) answered 50+ (or whatever the highest option was, who wants to dig it up?). Two or three Apple products making light is nothing.
I believe there is a bisexual porn flick with the same name they chose to give their tape in Clerks. Don't ask me how I know... I mean, it was on Jeapordy...
"Already you might be surprised to know that this mouse has had no issues with any surface I have tried it on, including a mirror. It states that you shouldn't use it with reflective surfaces but I wanted to see what this thing could do."

The focus of the article seems to be security issues of the Internet. Talk of virusses, spam and whatnot. They even qute a guy saying he wishes security had been a priority when it was first invented. Shouldn't it be noted these issues are in software, not the hardware infastructure or protocal of the Internet?
I'm wondering why they're saying it's 'Google like'. Do they just mean 'search engine like', and got caught up in the brand name (like they do with the iPod so frequently)? Or is there something about it comparable only to a Google technique?
Windowing environment? Is that between a window manager and a desktop environment? Because KDE is the latter (though it does have a former, obviously). A desktop environment should include a suite of apps to help you manage your activities on your computer. Hence the Control Panel, hence the PIM, hence KOffice, etc.
"I'm Corey Gouker (obviously); I'm a Media Center MVP who hangs out in the Microsoft newsgroups for everything Digital Media and Media Center related."
Also worth noting that the review was posted by someone likely to exhibit bias. I did not RT whole FA (did you see how long that thing was?!), so it may be completely impartial, just something to keep in mind...
Good geek karma for you, sir. You had to use the fictional events of a sitcom to explain a common social situation.
All joking aside, you're absolutely right. It's the same reason the AIMers use 'Out' as their away message, rather than 'At the grocery store on 46th street, across from Chase'.
A few companies are offering them, the Neuros, for one.

I don't know, I imagine the market is at least as big as the market for the Gameboy, and that's done alright.

Jeez, have we learned nothing from Sim City 3000? By the time they finish this thing, the rest of us will have fusion power.

Most modern PDAs, and most old ones for that matter, can play Vorbis. For instance, there is PPC software for it here. Just FYI...

You mean Fibonacci?

Doesn't Mozilla serve the purpose of both KMail and Konqueror? Why include all three when you could have one or the other two?

Umm... SCO pwns Linux, dude, why wouldn't they declare it's great?
I'm wondering where KFind fits into all of this... Seems like that's already been around a while.
