"The cantina shootout between Han Solo and the green-snouted bounty hunter Greedo is virtually identical, but now it seems their guns fire almost simultaneously."
Yes, but is there any new proof as to the second gunman on the sandy knoll?
PARIS, FRANCE - An Apple director reiterated on Wednesday comments made earlier this year that the company has no plans to announce a Mac laptop powered by a G5 processor for some time, and that technical issues of putting the chip in a small PowerBook have not yet been overcome.
Tom Boger, director of Apple's worldwide product marketing, told The Mac Observer that consumers shouldn't expect the G5 in a portable for the forseeable future.
The new iMac G5 (desktop) is thin, but (the G5) is not thin enough for a laptop right now, Mr. Boger said. There are great challenges in putting a G5 processor in a laptop. The issues range from power to cooling and its overall size...You're not going to see a G5 in a laptop anytime soon.
I agree with your plea for a Mac MATX board... Oh the possibilities!
But having numerous Macs over the years, I disagree on the service time. Maybe I'm just lucky, but I've only had three equipment failures in twelve years. I have a Dell Latitude that has required many more service visits in the last eighteen months, but thats for another post.
I had the firewire port on my PowerBook go out after two years, contacted Apple and they shipped me a box for it the next day. I had my laptop back with a new board a day and a half later.
Our first iMac, a 600 Graphite, had an issue when my son broke the CD/RW drive by forcing a disk in. AppleCare took care of that as well, we got it back in three days.
When I factor in what my time is worth for driving around picking up parts and doing the repairs my self, Apple's warranty service is a deal. In some cases it was faster than waiting fot the Dell service technician to show up, but again I digress.
Would I buy one?
Oh hell yeah!!! Who growing up as a kid didn't dream of it.
Will they really be built and sold to consumers? Hell no!!! Not in our life time. Can you imagine the insurance premium? Let alone getting pulled over for flying under the influence.
I see both your points. I do agree though, when I got my first iPod, just opening the box(pre-cardboard) was an experience. Everything was neatly tucked into it recesses, and well organized.
Comparing it to the usual tech-gear packaging is like comparing the interior of a luxury sedan to that of a Kia, they both serve their purpose, but if I had to choose one...
I suppose now I'll have to get a new one just to compare the "packaging experience".
But what if it's Kirk from the future? Say, after he retires from the federation but before TNG.
And... Time travel episodes rock! I love the episode where Scotty goes back to 1994 and buys $10,000 in shares of Microsoft for $3 each and... I digress.
People see computers as just that, computers. Most don't understand the difference between a Celeron based email machine, and a high-end work station.
Then there are those that do understand that, but say "Pffft! I could build one myself, twice as fast as that Dell for the change I found in my couch".
Yet, you never hear people say:
"Woah, that Lexus is overpriced, I can get a Kia Rio for $7000."
"$7000??? I can build my own car for less than that!"
It's also a Dual 1.8, the previous low end was a 1.6

On the surface, it seems a bad move not to offer patches to Jaguar (10.2.x) users. If the assumption is correct, that Apple is indeed withholding a patch simply to spur sales of Panther (10.3), it borders on bad ethics. There are many users of now unsupported hardware that won't tun Panther who rely on their Macs to earn a living, Apple seems to be holding their security as ransom forcing them to upgrade not only the OS, but hardware too. - Bad form, Apple!
In all fairness, we need to see what the next few week hold regarding Apple releasing (or not releasing) a patch. I'd be very suprised if they don't. It's probably just a marketing tactic to spur every possible user to upgrade - Still, bad form.

Let's say in comparison to the speed of light.
I thought originally "warp 1" was the equivelant to 186,000 miles per second, so warp 5 would be five times the speed of light.
Am I correct in assuming a light year is the distance one would travel, if they were going the speed of light for 365 days?
For basic text and formatting is works fine. More complex formatted.DOC's have issues, if there are tables and charts, for instance. No real issues in opening or saving to.DOC.
It's nice in a pinch, but I wouldn't rely on it as a replacement for Word.
Actually at Fry's we were faced with twice the traffic today. Suprising, as last night was busy.
Friday night was mainly Panther purchasers, today was more of the same, but a lot of hardware moved along with the $19.95 Panther rebate forms.
Yeah, you're right - The beaten horse is dead.
What version of Open GL is in the current version of OS X (10.3.5), or how to find out?
But here it is anyway, it details most the changes between original star wars, special edition, and the new 2004 dvd.
Updates StarWars scene image comparison
And... ...an interesting trivial tid-bit on the enhancement process to the trilogy.
Yes, but is there any new proof as to the second gunman on the sandy knoll?

Maybe, just maybe all it is, is just a design trademark filing and nothing more.
I think it is strange they (Apple) would file in Europe, and not at the US Patent Office.
Also, a keynotes or so ago didn't Steve mention that they had a PDA-like prototype, but it got shelved?

Gates and Co. didn't get rich by writing checks.
