If Apple is doing this with the iPhone, what's stopping them from doing a similar type of thing with their OS X operating system? Could there possibly be any similar type of function in OS X that has yet to be discovered? If there was, I think that the backlash would be mammoth.
Seriously, who in their right mind would submit themselves to this type of thing. I can no longer see any merit to traveling out of the country (or by air at all). People travel internationally by air for the following:
- Business (Teleconferencing solves this problem for 95% of cases. 5% of the time you need that face 2 face time).
- Pleasure (Stop and take a look around your own country. Enjoy the local pleasures and save $ at the same time).
- Other (Visiting family abroad. This one's a little hard to say no to I suppose).
I think that once the mass population has had enough of this utter crap and airlines, tourism, etc start to tank into the crapper we will start to see some sanity returning. All this, "for your protection" crap is pure BS IMO.
Great so now we'll all have to watch our basic movements and how close together we have certain objects. The future of freedom is looking so wonderful. Sigh....
I will not be buying Spore despite it being the end all be all of gaming. Why should I have to pay for such hassles? I will not succumb to the "must buy this game" factor and stick to my guns on this. I believe we can all thank EA for walking in and ruining this game we were all expecting since it's initial announcement.
I know I could buy it for a console and not have to put up with the DRM hassle buy I refuse to give them one red cent simply out of my strong stance against what they are enforcing. VOTE with your WALLET. Don't fund their DRM bandwagon.
I have had absolutely enough of all the rantings by the RIAA, MPAA, etc and DR-freaking-M. Hollywood can take their media and shove it up their collective @rse. Is there anything sooo special coming out of Hollywood that makes me want to lose my daily freedoms? Simply no. I don't need anything that they are pumping out and neither do you. Stop buying their sh*t and let them die a long painful death. I will not shed a tear.
Not to mention: password lists for people's bank accounts, email accounts, websites, etc.
How long will it be before they start searching people randomly on the street and entering homes.
Johnny Mnemonic time is around the corner sooner thank I thought.
Couldn't the cost of riding on these zeppelins be subsidized by selling 'airvertising' space on them? Also, they could be used as wi-fi stations which could help to get rural areas online.
I think it's great to see a country make a bold step like this. The US is really behind the game in terms of Space exploration efforts, and it seems like they will only slide further back at this point. Hopefully this action by Russia will get other nations jump onto the bandwagon and get more competitive (or collaborative even!). Why must the superpower nations blow all their $$$ on their military when there is such a vast space for us to explore. We are sitting here watching the parade go by when there's so much to explore out there and it's a shame beyond words.
what other US mil weaponry do you think is being sold in the black market that doesn't even show a blip on the radar? Yeah, that's the stuff that should be keeping you all awake at night. With all the stockpiles of nuclear weaponry, you know something's going (or already) has gone missing/unaccounted for.
Sheesh, I'm on the verge of finally switching from Microsoft to Apple (just been waiting on the new rev of the Mac Mini to appear) and they go and pull the funny business of trying to slip Safari on to Windows desktops that use Itunes. On top of that there is now this report of the security flaws found in Safari. So now Apple is carelessly pushing a security risk browser onto unsuspecting client PC's. This is really underhanded and has be getting cold feet. Ubuntu perhaps....then?
Apple, these sort of tactics really are not necessary. Don't take the low road please...you can win it by going on the high way.
All I need to see on the console front is full support for keyboard + mouse in FP (first person) games. This would, for me at least, do away with any need for a gaming PC. Until such time though, I will be forced to play FP games on the PC. I cannot be bare to play a FP game with a gamepad and think of it as being forced to run a marathon with one leg.
One company gets kudos from me on this front. Epic had the brains that other companies don't and released Unreal Tournament 3 on the PS3 with full keyboard + mouse support as the hardware supports it. Sadly, the Xbox 360 does not offer this functionality due to Microsoft's ever so brilliant strategy to woo PC gamers. I sincerely hope they come to their senses come their next hardware revision.
...terahertz radiation (T-rays), I just need to stop traveling by air and stay away from the streets of London? How soon will be before they are doing drive by scans of people in their homes to ensure they are in compliance with the order of law.
I assume that they will also be giving out coupons for cancer treatments to the people they are scanning to be used 20 years later.
Sorry but "which boasts 3 Mbps down and 758 Kbps up"? I wouldn't be boasting too much about that service. If you were to rank the US in terms of their internet connectivity they really are almost a 3rd world country.
$50/month here in Japan gets me 100Mbps (up and down) FTTH with no caps in place. Yes, you can all say "well Japan is such a small and densely populated country so of course they can all be wired up like that", which I hear so often. Well, why can't the US do this for their main cities as they are all densely populated. If they were to take this approach and then build high bandwidth links interconnecting these cities it could be done.
But the real problem here is that the telecoms and politicians are too busy filling their pockets and planning how to spy on you to care about doing anything to improve their networks.
So, hopefully Toshiba will offer to buy back all the HD-DVD hardware and media from their poor/unassuming consumers since they lied and were touting as the next big thing. No? I didn't think so. Boycott the b*st*rds.
/happy I stayed away from both formats. DVD is still fine for me =).
These disposable balloons, while a cute idea, are simply too hobby/garage level. Google, with giant coffers, need to think on a grander 'Bladerunneresque' scale. They should instead deploy manned/autonomous airships (blimps) to serve this purpose.
These airships could serve multiple purposes (among many others I'm sure Google's clever folks could come up with):
- Photography for Google Maps.
- Airvertising as another revenue source.
- Weather.
So, instead of humanity spending trillions of dollars on exploring the galaxy we opt for killing our own species to hell and back. If an Armageddon asteroid, zombie outbreak or other humanity ending event occurs I will have no sympathy for us. We are collectively imbeciles.
So, I assume that CNN will be paying the folks who's reports are used? If they don't institute some sort of royalty system it won't take long for some other news corp to step up and scoop everyone away from CNN's service.

I know that if I were to get video of some incredibly news worth event that there would be no way in h3ll I would be handing it over for free....that's just my cheap-ass though.

All we need now is approval for Bear embryos and Al Gore's will be right!! - ManBearPig
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ManBearPig/
"ManBearPig, half man, half bear, half pig, who roams the Earth and attacks humans".
Can anyone recommend a reputable alternative registrar that is similar in terms of pricing but without the "evil"?
Pitchforks half price! Get 'em while we have 'em.
I'm gonna make my own! With hookers! And blackjack! In fact, forget the Internet! Eh, screw the whole thing.

It's the only way to be near 100% sure it gets there unmolested.

I want to see a list of these ISP's maintained so consumers can stay informed (to stay away from them I mean).
This would be a great platform for Windows FLP http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_FLP/ to spread it's wings. Sadly, it was never released to retail.
