I have been holding off on buying a pair of large capacity HDD's for the last 2 years knowing that we'd be seeing 1TB soon enough. But of course, I couldn't wait any longer and go buy a pair of 500GB cudas. Not less than 24 hours later they announce this. There is an MCP and he is a cruel one at that....sigh.

We are only as advanced as the level of freedom we permit our fellow man. On the whole, we as a species are still monkeys swinging in the trees. How can we expect to flourish throughout the galaxy, beyond this earth, if we cannot live in peace with ourselves. Sigh....there's so much more out there for us than to destroy ourselves. We need a good kick in the collective pants.

  14. Restricted sight based? on Even The Blind Get Deja Vu · · Score: 1
Since when was deja vu considered to be restricted to sight based events? I have had Deja vu from smells, sounds (music, etc), touch and even just a feeling. Seems quite boring to think that deja vu can only be experienced from sight based experiences.

I seem to recall that Deja vu is actually your brain mis-interpreting what you are currently experiencing as being something you have experienced in the past (ie: processing what you are currently experiencing as if it is coming from your brain's archives. Or in nerd talk - Your brain is mixing up off-site storage with L1 cache.). So, once again, I don't see what this has to do why Deja vu would be isolated to sight based events.

  18. Re:Eats batteries? Hardly. on Two Weeks with the Wii · · Score: 2, Interesting

This still seems like a poor implementation of what could have been much cooler. If they had taken a page from their DS designs and put a similar battery into the Wiimote with a charging dock or cable I would be blown away. As it is now it seems like a big step back compared to the rest of the console's innovative qualities. Hopefully Nintendo will rev the hardware within a year, as they have with the DS, and bring us a sexier option. I'm waiting the for the version that will support DVD playback (yes, I live in Japan) so I can junk the my current DVD player (xbox original)

  20. "Personal" Computer on Vista's EULA Product Activation Worries · · Score: 1

Microsoft is slipping the keys to our "Personal" Computers right out of our pockets and we're letting them do it. Vista computers should simply be referred to MC's as that is what they will be as they hold the keys over your head. I'm not liking the direction this is heading in and the lack of notice on the part of the general population.

  23. Ppffffttt....Falling behind? on The U.S. Falling Behind In Broadband? · · Score: 2, Interesting

The US isn't even in the same race. I've been on 100MB FTTH here in Tokyo for the last 3 years (25MB ADSL before that). Included with it I get IP telephony services which allow for very cheap international calling rates (I do use SkypeOut instead though) and also free domestic calls to other IP Tel users). I also get TV over IP with a variety of foreign and domestic stations. All the above for about $45US/month, no capping/limits. Eat that Uncle Sam. They need to clean up the corruption in the US Telecoms industry bigtime. There is no reason why the US cannot have comparable services.

  24. OSx86 and I'm gone... on Microsoft Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) · · Score: 1

  25. What's going to be left? on YouTube Removed 30,000 Japanese Videos from Site · · Score: 1
So, all the copyrighted materials are going to go out the window after others see how google complied with the Japanese. All the skimpy dancing girls are going since that is pornographic (gasp...heaven forbid someone gets an erection and some added joy in their life). So, what are going to be left with? The very few quality amateur bits and a whole lot of garbage.

    The vultures are circling....

Trule a shame though that the Japanese couldn't see the advantage of having their videos on youtube. It was free advertising to a fresh new audience...but no, they want to keep all their toys to themselves. Heaven forbid they find new potential consumers! Smart business indeed.
