IANAS, but AFAIK, lava is an entirely different consistency to water and doesnt have a miniscus (spag?) as such to 'stride' on. Equally, if it's hot enough to melt ROCK, metal doesn't stand much of a chance does it?
i think the problem with skimming is that it relies on very specific conditions...
- the robot has to be VERY light - the robot has to be very small...Otherwise you're risking breaking the miniscus (spag?).......in theory, it would be good as something to explore a watery area undetected (i.e. it creates very little wake) or just to travel through shallow (5mm) water, but i'd like to see a true application of said robot...
...why (damn kitten is chasing my hands as i type!) do you need to hide a DVD-R under your desk? why can't you just carry it around wherever youre going?! I'm lost....
Lions kill an elephant for pure survival. Humans have many MANY other options NOT to... just some people are very greedy...
'Natural' pills are all about not un-balancing anything, and not putting dodgy chemicals into us... not to mention avoiding animal testing...
People conciously damage the planet, mainly for their own greed. animals damage it for pure survival... there's no over-zealous 'greed' as such in the animal kingdom, just animals surviving. OF course, there is *some*, but generally its sustainable, and is only unsustainable if offset by humans (see: when humans like to introduce species to new places)
I seriosuly have a 4 meg S3 in my 2000+ athlon box right now. I feel so dirty.

That already exists. It's called a SUBDOMAIN...... 'www' isnt an obligatory subdomain to have on a web address in theory, it just happens to have become standard. There'll never really be any solution for lack of domain names... you just have to be more and more imaginative.

it alreayd is in many 3d cad apps, but i think you have a point. i also think a good example would be using the wheel in your desktop manager to scroll through windows by their 'height' from the desktop. swish, i reckon.
That is true, BUT by doing this, you're relying on millions of people to be less ignorant and recycle, as opposed to just a FEW large manufacturing/film companies to think about it and say "oh yeah, good point, we dont want things getting thrown away for no good reason".
No matter what happens, the dvds will still arrive at landfills. Ignorance is bliss, remember?
i have surround sound on my pc, but couldnt ever imagine actually diving in and getting it for my tv. i like it for my pc, because i enjoy hearing bullet shots from all round in counterstrike.. but have never seen a REALLY good implentation, and no matter what, it doesnt fool me that much...
i was stating that the US TAXES wouldnt have gone there at all.. of course flying fees go towards ATC, but that's your own choice for going on holiday to the UK....... as for taxes? none go to the UK's ATC....

Still trying to figure out why this is a useful invention though...
Yes, you can boot from the install CD.

funnily enough, it looks like it could be about to save sun :-)
it isnt a CRT
AFAIK, if it's ambient.. it's not a laser.. a laser is a focused stream of light. Correct me if I'm wrong though, IANAS ;-)

AFAIK, lossless means that no matter how many times you RE-save an image, it doesnt lose image data; in which case, yes, a GIF IS lossless.

Not new, just a slashdot optimist ;-)

Then i realised that it was just an over-exictable geek with too much time on their hands and no evident form of life.

Well no, none of your dollars are going to the UK, unless the US is routing their tax to the UK somehow.
strange person.

If we went by that ideas, you'd be implying that every book to do with GPL/OSS things should be free and that the authors should make no profit...
