that Al Gore invented for the pro-choice liberal weenies. Its one of the internets that spreads rumors about a draft going on. What about the history of the other internets that don't spread such rumors?
India is not Buddhist, unfortunately.. Thankfully, though, it is a secular state -- no mixing of temple and state, if you don't know what I'm talking about.. we can talk about why I think this is still true some other time. There are pockets of insanity here and there, but that's also a bit off topic here.
IIRC, they sold a few (580s or 600s, and T20s I forget the exact models) and then stopped abruptly.
They do support some thinkpad drivers etc on linux, and have links to third-party sites. There is a limited number of models that are available without an OS, but they are kind of pricy compared to their thinkpad express programs and/or other deals.
Must give them credit for the support, though. My last call was regarding wireless support on my R40 with their mini PCI card using kernel 2.6, and eventually they did route my call (after two hops) to someone who knew WTF I was talking about. So yeah, they don't sell pre-installed, but they will kind of support it:)
I don't know what is wrong with a plain old Thinkpad running debian. If you're willing to put about two hours (less if you don't want MS-DOS at all), and maybe a couple of hours more tweaking stuff.
My IBM R40 is more than adequately functional with Debian running. I guess except for some support related issues one might be interested in, I really don't see the point. Now, if only IBM would sell these things without an OS..
You do the math. Muhahah. Most of the things that need to be said have been said. So here's the thing to ponder: Are people significantly worse off here in the US because the cheap plastic Wal-Mart type stuff gets made almost solely in China? Not the say that the Chinese are not making very good quality other stuff too..
This might be slightly off-topic.
802.11h takes care of some of that: Includes dynamic frequency selection and control over transmitter power, thought the emphasis is on reducing interference.
802.15 would be another standard to look at in this context.
Someone like Qualcomm or Nokia needs to speed up development of a chip that handles multiple standards. I know, that'd be bad for their stock prices, but still..
I heard on Car-Talk, the authoritative guys on anything about cars, that a horse once chew'd into someone's steering wheel till the bare metal was visible. You see, metal.. So cutting through would be near impossible. Also, you should not forget the impact shocks which might be enough to warp strongest of metal, apart from the illusions you might get due stuff all around coming apart and twisting during a crash test..
I really don't care about graphical setups. Fedora (IMVHO) does a good job of making a GUI setup. Debian on the other hand (again IMVHO) fills what otherwise would be a gap between something overly for-the-average-user (Mandrake/Fedora/maybe SuSe) and something for the control-freak (My beloved Slackware), and the installer portrays that fact..
With 2.6.8-rc2 and Debian Sid, I've been pseudo successful in suspending to disk (swap partition) on an IBM R40. Pseudo success 'cause it worked before I totally f***'d up my XFS root partition (under very shameful circumstances which I won't confess to) and had to reinstall. Should have saved the.config, because now I can't re-create the same kernel:-( One of these days, though.. With ACPI, btw.
Would be reliable suspend/resume to/from disk and memory, with all devices waking up correctly. I've heard that Powerbooks with Linux can do that, but I don't own one (yet)..
Next step: Stick this into the firefox search bar thingie.. Wish I knew enough about mozilla stuff; can javascript be stuffed into the search bar?
Nah. It'll be called Thunkpad.

Says something about our respective countries, doesn't it? (I'm soon-to-be-back-home Indian)
Despite being an (East) Indian, I'd welcome this if it helps change the mindsets of the so called 'red states' a bit..

In case they didn't teach you history in high school, the statue came before the cemetaries..

And if your esteemed vice president sees you with it, he'll try to bite your hands off..
The first law dictates that a car in motion shall remain in motion (barring trivialities like a resultant force etc..)
Until then, pirated windows is probably the strongest competitor Linux faces.
Marketing FUD is the true competition for linux and similar, IMHO.
If not, mod the post as Flamebait -1.
A new HP insteady of an iMAC? Interesting..
humm.. it would be interesting to see how you'd react if someone (I wish I had mod points today) mods you down as a famebait or a troll..
So it looks like this thing is fairly useless for FP trolls like me. It trails by at least an hour in the caching.
If you liked the movie, read the book (by Carl Sagan). It's much better..
It would indeed be interesting if you discussed whether MSFT as a corporation would have a chance of surviving if it did switch to GPL.. :-)

Re. 4)*
I'm pretty happy with my R40 and Cisco aironet internal PCI card. Not sure if X30 supports them. If so, get one off of eBay.
