From the inside of a game store, you get to hear bits of insider info on why games arent released this time of year. The programmer said it right, there just isnt enough shelf space to house all the games. We run out of titles and after that, we sometimes dont see them again. Christmas is a big selling season for us, our shelves were packed with new games and we sold out of the majority of the titles released around that time.

I can see them holding off Fable, Halo 2, and Half Life just because the Christmas season is when people do most of thier retail shopping. Our store went from making tens of thousands weekly around Christmas, to making less than a thousand a day after. Some days we havent even hit 500.

I think it also looks good on the books to end the fiscal year with a bang, than just business as usual. Could the retail market be responsible for the hold off and delays? Maybe.

Why are you comparing apples to oranges? Surfing the web and playing DVD's on a device that is already hooked up to the television are two different things. You surf mostly at your computer, and wouldnt want to use your dreamcast to do it. You watch movies at your TV, and, in my opinion, would want a PS2 to do it, because its already there. Conveinent, eh? If I am playing a game, then want to surf the web, even though I am sitting on a comfy couch, I just wouldnt want to surf the web, I would see no problem in popping a DVD movie in, because that is where most people watch DVD movies. Im sorry if I missed your point. Why isnt that more of a draw sale wise to be able to play all the games, and for 15$ more get a high quality DVD player, Versus, playing games for 50-60 less, having a smaller library of games to choose from, and having to buy a memory card (Xbox HD? Worth the effort or not, it would still be a better value to Joe Consumer once the price drops, that is my point. I will concede on the HDTV part. I was wrong.

It still had better change some of its ways if it wants to survive. SEGA made a hardware mistake, and, the mistake of going against the (then) leader in the console market. Sony. Nintendo quietly played thier cards and let the big two duke it out and then picked up the scraps. Will this happen with MS and Sony? I dont know. But, whom ever comes out on top, will then focus its sights on them. I am sure this was Sony's objective as soon as SEGA bit the dust, but, all of a sudden has a real problem on thier hands: Microsoft and thier near liquid assets. It distracted Sony long enough for them to pick market share back up with make-or-break price cuts.

What you armchair analyst fail to see is that the price cut screamed depseration from Nintendo. Luckily it worked for them this time, but if the Cube has to drop again in the shadow of a possible price cut from Sony or MS, what will happen then? What will happen when a PS2 (with the improved hardware, look for the + on the box kids) or the Xbox drops to 159, 154.99? For 60 more you get a DVD player(PS2) And if you have one of them Fancy HDTV's that are all over now (and will be all over the place in less than 3 years), you will want a console that can take advantage of those 480,720i modes (XBox).

I know the next gen console specs havent been released yet, but, If Nintendo keeps up with this "wait and see" approach, they will get left behind, no doubt.

I certainly hope they change for the better. I love my GC, and dont want to have it sit collecting dust because more and more developers are abandoning the platform.

It is hard to tell who is leading though, as I dont keep track of the actual sales. I do want to point out the article is right, sales are slow for our little store. IMHO it isnt EA responsibility to report the crime because all they are providing is a communication service, TSO is just a chat room with a game thrown in.

Who has the money. Parents. Who do they spend it on? Kids.

Sure Nintendo may have beat earnings this quarter, but, what abou the dry summer months. I bet for the next 3 quarters they will be losing money, stopping production, etc.

I wish my cube played DVD's. It would make it more useful. Instead all I have is just another gaming machine, and, where I work, trying to convince mom and pop consumer that they should get a gamecube for jimmy because thats all it does is play games when they hear from the joneses that thier PS2/XBOX plays DVD's, and thier XBOX doesnt need expensive memory cards, it isnt easy.

People want the most bang for your buck, and when they see the titles they want on all three machines, and the machine does more, they are going to pay the premium to get it.
