If everyone started using HFS or HFS+ we'd end up in the same situation when Apple sees a chance to make money by doing the same thing that M$ is doing. Apple, like all other companies these days loves Patents. Its seems to be the popular thing to do; offer a product (like FAT) for free and when it catches on, charge for it. (many forsee the same happening with MP3). The only way around this is to adopt an Open Source file format. Not only would it make it impossible for an company to do what M$ is doing now but, being Open Source would make all technical data for implementation freely available. XFS seems like a good choice to me and its Open Source.
If you want to do real damage you've got to get military grade hardware. You're dealing with Microsoft. .50 Cal would do the most damage but are too hard to get. 5.57 or.308 are good rounds if you prefer rifles to pistol. If a 9mm is all you got at least use partially jacket hollow points Better yet, booby-trap the CD drive with C4 to get the roommate when he puts the game in. I deny responsibility if anybody tries this.
Very true. I saw the same thing in Thailand before XP was released. You could get an Alpha or Beta version of XP for about $2US, if you couldn't barter then you paid $5.
It's hard to expect people in developing nations care about multi-Billion dollar corporations in the US. Which I think is a strong case for Open Source.
Actually, I think that a large screen (12-15 inch) PDA or Pocket PC would meet most needs that people have for tablet PC's. The ability to take notes and wireless access being the most important in my opinion. The PDA's edge would be the ease of use and the instant on and off. Just add a keyboard and use the Corice Hard Drive or a MicroDrive for storage needs. A device like this (reguardless of who makes it) would make a good laptop replacement of business people on the go, students or anybody else that need more than a PDA but less than a laptop.
From the screen-shot this game looks more like Final Fantasy than any fighting game. While it might bring some RPG players to the Fighting genre, don't expect any die-hard Fight gamers convert to RPG.
The Space Program has already paid off in my opinion; Astronaut Ice Cream. Finally we've got really dry ice cream that doesn't melt. It's a dream come true.
Of course I hear that they don't take Astronaut Ice Cream into space, WTF?
Apple wasn't the first to make hard drive MP3 players. The first one I recall seeing on the market was the Creative Lab's Nomad Jukebox (haven't got an exact date on the very first one), in 2000. It had to be out at least a year before iPod. Apple and everyone else pretty much took that idea and ran with it.
iPod is a good device especially when paired with iTunes but, it's not without its limitations, as pointed out in this CNet article
, five reasons not to buy an iPod , already posted on/.
Me, I've got a Rio Nitrus, which uses the Cornice Storage Element and it's a nice fit between the bulkier hard drive players (like the iPod) and the solid state players that have less storage. If Apple really wants to take the lead they should help Cornice to up their drive capacity (like to 20 Gb) and sell it in a smaller iPod that has a replaceable battery.
What is needed is a big company like IBM to get with Open Source developers and actually go after GPL violators. How easy this will be will hinge on the outcome of the SCO suit.
Off course if SCO wins I'm switching to FreeBSD
Problems such as this show that any computer can be insecure. It's not just an Apple or M$ issue. Every system has weaknesses (even a *nix box) and the only why the guard against them is through vigilance and education. Learning of the exploits and fixing them.
In my opinion the more knowledgeable the user (or Admin for networks) the more secure the system.
'Nuff said. Now we can get back to the usual M$ vs. Apple pissing contest that we all love.
Although having an office at home that get lots of natural light won't help you problem with social interaction it will help to fight depression.
In general you need to make you workspace comfortable and open. If you work in a dark closet it's not going to make your problem better. Your office should be a please that you being in.
The point of having a computer is to use it as a computer. If you're using it for something else then it was a very good computer to start with.
Yes old x86's are still used as computers because they work. This Mac was fished out of the trash.
I think the problem comes from the fact that the numbers Apple submitted don't match the numbers on the SPEC website. Add to that concerns about VeriTest's methods and you could see how one might consider Apple's claims misleading.
Of course Apple could have called it "One of the world's fastest personal computers" and been ok.
Conspiracy against Apple? No, their ads are still on in the U.S. Had this been done by AMD or Intel people would realy be out for blood. But, claims like this are nothing new from Apple.
I beleive you. Just as Quicktime sucks on Windows, I wouldn't be suprised that Media Play 9 sucks on Mac. Hopefully this will be taken a sign for M$ & Apple to keep these programs on their own OS's, where they belong.
No need to get defensive. I was just trying to suggest that Apple would have a setting that would wait until the computer was not being used.
Apparently you feel threatened by the mere mention of Windows. If you ask me the whole PC/Mac debate is going nowhere. It's just a juvenile pissing contest.

Are they selling tickets or is it first come, first serve? Maybe they'll have it on pay-per-view.

Maybe your drive just wasn't into jazz.

Got ya beat, $5.75. Then again, that's a military hair cut.
Do you think that they'll have Number Munchers for the Apple II emulator. Loved that game as a kid. It the only thing that got me past 3rd grade math.

You've got a rather loose definition of art.

Yes, but they're not allowed to sell the mice. I know, I asked when I could get one for a pet.
Wow, you are old. But I like your style.
I know they've got some systems that come with Lycoris Desktop/LS installed.
Sure, if you want to spend at least an extra $1000.
I guess this mean the end of the world. It wasn't that great anyways.

No Google, don't do it!
