The SSA is prohibited from checking out errors with the SS numbers ? Who better equiped to straighten out identity theft verifications ? There is no National ID system and I don't think we want one. Does this mean I don't have to verify my income with the IRS because the government doesn't know who I am ? I recieved this SSN in error ! prove me wrong !
comparing it to a compiled language (C, Ada, Fortran, etc) or a web centric (java, java script, php, etc) language is not a good comparison.
when I need something done (and needed more than the shell) and I had to maintain it. I wrote it in perl.
all sorts of sysadmin widgets. many are still being used today (15+ years later) I wrote clean decent code with comments & modules. finding the cpu & disk hogs, by the day, week & month. who was running what when the system crashed. cgi code for low volume web server tasks updating DNS queueing outgoing faxes & saving history rotating log files and saving a limited number of copies.
how much code have you written ? and had it stay running for decades ? the people that took over my positions when I changed jobs never had a problem updating the code or using it.
I do not harass or abuse people.
(excepting lawyers, trolls, politicians, religious nuts, math failures & the RIAA) No one needs their life judged by the internet community. Or their identity stolen.
Been on Facebook about 5 years without a real name. When they demand one, I will just sign up under another non-real alias. Or discontinue it entirely
I have been discriminated against over
age 45+
single parenting single fathers get no respect
criminal record I was once charged with a felony (over charged to make me plead to a lesser charge without trial)
( not going to share the details, but minor shit and NOT work related)
haircut wasn't fashionable, too long
beard had short hair & beard was nicely trimmed
operating system windows shop wouldn't hire someone that thought windows was a poor data center choice. ( job was a SAN manager)
vehicle I ride motorcycle to work (clean bike, non-harley, no leathers, no tattoos) & my other vehicle is a pickup (clean, stock equipment)
salary I have always been reasonable, but local wage averages are not realistic if you have to hunt regional & national for personnel
Shit happens, of all the above. My criminal record causes me the most grief, because of it's just a check box to HR. check the box no job.
And I don't lie about anything important.
system manager root ---- the accounts I used 80% of my day the computer room ---- where I was 80% of the time my cube/meetings --- the place I was 20% of the day mac/windows desktop --- the thing I used for documentation/powerpoint/email and web surfing
unix/vms/mvs/os-9 ---- my main operating systems c/perl/fortran/+ --- the languages used
currently on a medical forced sabatical and working on personal computer projects.
bad systems problems start at the top (budgets/scheduling/manpower/etc), the sysadmin knows this... bring time, money, and quiet voices, then go to lunch with the sysadmin. the napkin drawing will be the outline of the solution. (one of my old bosses kept a collection of million dollar project's first napkin designs)
But, someone has to keep an eye on the long term IT/Network Plans. If we left it to Marketing, the lead time would be less than 30 days on everything.
The last big company (65k+ employees) had an EA department.
I worked supporting networked systems projects from start to production roll out, upgrades, and replacement.
Mostly HP/Sun Unix with storage (local & SAN) with high availability.. Our team kept getting bigger over the years I was there. We were busy and tried to stay fast & get it done. And being on the leading edge of the data stream, we saw the required capacity upgrades first.
Our EA dept almost never had a firm answer fast enough for our production environments.
They did have a big pile of technologies to cover.
Our hot points, Unix server suppliers (med to big servers), disk, memory, tape, SAN, storage (EMC,Hitachi,HP,NetApp), tape libraries & drives
volume managers, high availability, system monitoring, and a few applications & development environments.
Our team would look over our options, investigate them ( and get quotes), then pick one. After knowing what one(s) we liked, we would call the EA and get their opinion. waffle, waffle, list all the solutions, waffle waffle, we will get back to you in 4 months, want to see the new product XYZ out next quarter. Really ? we are deploying about then and are ordering ASAP. So then the EA would ask us what we liked and why, and give us the okay to go.
We would deploy & after running it in production for a few months, the EA Dept would issue their approved products (the ones we used)
The team didn't get the sales rep lunches or trips, but we all put "Tactical Architects" on our job description.
Female dirty chat bots ? Is this a IBM Watson application
Kinda reminds me of the insurance fraud, when the crooks setup an insurance company and the sold the policies to a reinsurance company. Used a computer to figure how many claims they could file without being out bound on the actuarial tables.
Looks like this one is legal because of the weasel words in the TOS.
But who would sign up for services like this in the future ? Bender ? Shake that shiny metal ass !
toxic material is an important consideration. but NEBS test servers for a data center is ridiculous !
Major manufacters (HP,IBM,SUN,etc) only test one or two hardware chassis for NEBS.
one basic 2u server & the next size up multi processor.
NEBS servers are designed to be utility server in a telco switch site. The power is DC and the site has a big bank of batteries to power the site during outages. A telco is aiming for NO outages and is very hardware focused.
Anyone elses datacenter is AC and with software/hardware configurations that switch the load/programs/traffic to backup servers. Where most companies fail is in testing the high availibility failovers. Databases, COTS, homegrown programs usually have a common problem, HA is NOT designed into it, it is a patch & cobble after the fact.
When an entire datacenter goes offline, you will see almost every company go up in smoke for the day. Geo fail over is NOT some thing many do well and is difficult to buy a magic solution from a vendor. And testing again is hard to get management buy in for.
I have had these discussion for most of my employers, and few took more than baby steps toward a solid solution. And I have seen one of them make apologies on tv and one was involved in a merger then the IT was outsourced.
None of them would have survived a disaster recovery with some major outages Planning a disaster recovery system that come back online within a few minutes is cheap compared to one that never stops.
I have trouble getting work, because I spanked my son for being a thief. And I was only charged with a felony. So why does my honesty make me unemployable ? One background check and I don't have a job or interview.
With all the new weird news being outed as actually proven to be true.
Is it time for update packages for all you classic conspiracy games ?
Or has it become truely too weird for an update and need a new game?

You may not need much math to do web programming (CSS,HTML,PHP).
But you start using a more robust language like Ruby,Swift,Go, Javascript you will need it.
Logic & math go hand in hand, without it, you will produce bloated, buggy, slow code.
It may work, but it will be hard to maintain, even by the original author.
Every coder should look at code they have written years before (or code by others) to see how much they have learned.
You "I don't need math" people need to try using C or assembly for a non-trival program, then port it to another system(with a different OS & CPU)
Spreadsheet macros need math, and those have been a non-programmer computer user activity for decades.
Pay attention in math class & do your homework.
I always hated the math teachers that couldn't explain what some math was good for.
You may not need engineering calculus, but it helps.
