    P.S. What do think of the idea of a VM sandbox safe area to run a systems internet facing programs in ?
                    This would be to limit malware/virus/etc access.

    They are just echoing an existing article, with some editing to make it sound sensational.

    That town is wi-fi free because there are sensitive radio telescopes nearby and the US Federal government made the restrictions manditory a long time ago.

    The US Government in it's infinite wisdom, specifies details of exactly what hardware model and software version will be used.
    With the usual delays between prototype, contractor selections, and funding delays, it may take years between initial contract bids and production.

    So they get stuck running old hardware & software, because they can't change it and it is specified in the original contract.

    My question when ever Windows is used. Why ?

    The most insecure, poorly designed, cheap piece of poop is used to protect our country.

    That OS can't protect itself from a poor programmer, let alone an actual threat.

    of course it's an over simplification.

    But, with my non-humorous hat on, I would say MICROSOFT is the biggest problem on the internet.

    They have made the most insecure operating system and become the most popular by being the cheapest.
    Then they set most of the default options to the least secure choice.

    That coupled with the relative ignorance of the general population (including too much of IT management) leads to the false image of Microsoft being a good software choice.

    I like unix in all it's flavors. Modular and upgradeable, without tossing out all your software.
    I like Apple after OS X ( I liked my Apple 2+ also)
    I like Forth, C, Lisp, Modula-2(etc)
    I like GNU, Hurd, Linux, Plan 9, Lilith, Rust, & Go.

    Software the people can see under the hood ( and fix it if they are good enough) is GREAT !

    I have run too much software that is buggy, spyware and exploits in it.
    After 30 years of IT experience (VAX,Unix,SAN,admin, architect,development,teaching,B.S.in C.S.), that is my opinion.

    You don't get to be a leader, by being a nice guy in the commitee.
    You have to have a vision to blaze a path to it, and be flexible enough to adapt with the detours.

    So internet access is going to cost 9+ hours of minimum wage pay ?
    So about 10 hours out of 160 hours in a full month.
    Add 5 hours for cell phone and 4 hours for TV ( netflix/hulu cheap options)
    That's about 10%+ of a person's wages.
    Hopefully they have someone to share the internet and TV costs.
    And I hope there is a lifeline option for the people trying to live on minimum wage.

    Internet access makes so many things possible !

    And saying this, I know that the data breach in Washington DC the other day has info from up to 30 years ago.
    They had all my information and I am surprised it was in a system that had network access to the internet !

    Truth in packaging.

    Free, Open Source, Free to use, Demo, Crippleware, cracked all "might" get the job done, but each one is vastly different in the long run.

    Don't appreciate peoples work on GNU, Linux, and other Free and Open Source software, use Windows, Apple or a retro platform.

    There are NOT enough people that design and code, and way too many that just beatch about other peoples work.

    Did you do your best work every day at your job this year ?

    If encryption is outlawed, the no binary computer code should be allowed with out the source code.
    And a testsuite should be provided to ensure it is operating correctly.

    All computer hardware should have schematics, timing charts, and a complete service manual.

    All mechanical devices should include a blueprint and shop manual.

    All politicians finances, meetings, votes, lobbying activities, should be transparent, wether in office or campaining !

    And DNA can NO be copyrighted, we all share the same codebase !

    People are not created equally (physical or mental ), but we want to be treated equally by our social laws !

    IT leadership is lacking in most companies.

    The idea a good manager can manage anything is wrong.

    After many years, I had a friend in manager ask me a question or two outside the office.
    He had been in many management roles, and was working as a project manager for some major Oracle DB projects.

    After explaining and doing a short lesson on all the major tech terms the DBs & system admin use.

    I asked what does management understand.
    On time (or not), Manpower Head count & budget.

    They almost never have a clue about the interaction of the systems, quality, maint, network (or any infrastructure) & replacement (timing)
    One manager I worked for needed a powerpoint to explain why upgrading the memory in the main unix server was needed,
    after all we had just install 8gb in his PC.

    Buy another tape cabinet with every project - BOFH (?)

    more power outlets in Kitchen & TV/Ent room

    A charging shelf with power outlet (kitchen/bedroom/?) depend on your family

    A cleanout y fitting for the sewer, give the rotorooter snake a straight shot to the sewer line.

    A pet litter box spot, a pet exit, & a pet sleeping spot ( pet bath spot for the fanatic)

    Make your house mantainable & safe.

    Luxury where you will use it and not too fancy to use or clean !

    And bill for the increase in consultant manpower to handle the new processes.

    A man dealing in information and taking a fee is sentenced to life.
    Most of his crimes are in the imagination of the prosecutors.
    The Mafia still exists, but they pay bribery (and lawyers)

    An organized criminal in our banking & financial industry get off with a fine.
    It's just another day on Wall street (too big to fail?)

    Destroy a million peoples retirement & mortgage, who may never recover and criminals profit.

    Destroy the countries health and bribe the congress to allow it !
    Monsanto, RJ Reynolds, & ?

    Pay attention Eric Snowden, don't come back to the US.
    They are planning something truly awful for you.

    I trained to be a IT professional.

    All ways good in my working career until I hit 40 after that it was much harder to get a job.

    If your training is only good for 20 years of work, the pay has to go way up.

    Employers want cheap slave labor, not workers with wisdom, families, and an outside life.
