  1. Re: I've got to have whatever runs Eve-Online on 90 Million Gaming PCs By 2007 · · Score: 1

Does the Wii run Eve-Online? Half-Life 2 Episode One?

At this point, there's no technical reason why it couldn't, they just aren't available for the Wii.

However, that's a fair trade, I suppose, since there are more games on consoles that aren't available for PCs than vice versa, and the imbalance only grows.

Sure, you might not like Zelda, Gears of War, Guitar Hero, or any of the other things that make game consoles worth owning but if you really have diverse gaming tastes the PC loses hands down.

This isn't to say that there aren't great games on the PC that aren't available for consoles. I personally cannot wait for Supreme Commander. I'm simply pointing out the fact that there are more reasons to game on a console than a PC, and the reasons to game on a PC instead of a console are slowly disappearing.

The Wiimote simply opens up even more possibilities for the Wii.

  3. Re:And how many here use myspace? on Who Says Money Can't Buy Friends? · · Score: 1

I've had a couple of domains and journals online for years and none of my friends and family could be bothered to check them regularly. When they finally did and read something I wrote (normally weeks or months later) they would message me saying "Oh wow... why didn't you tell me?"

Now, since most of my less than tech-savvy family and friends are all on Myspace, the crap I write gets read almost daily.

It annoys me to no end that something as retarded as Myspace serves it's function as well as it does, but I guess "Myspace" is really not a space that the technically inclined can really call "Mine". It's really theirs.

Looking at it like that, My myspace page isn't really for me. It's for them. And almost everyone I have on my friends list is someone I know from the real world with a few exceptions (a few long time chat/gaming friends made the cut...).

As for the disabled autoplaying music. It worked -- now it doesn't.

Myspace isn't perfect. In fact, it's far from it. It's so far from it, the word Myspace and Perfect probably aren't even from the same planet. Still, it has it's uses.

And to all of those people who complain about the quality of the users on Myspace, to them all I can say it's YOUR choice who you add to your friends list. If there are a bunch of idiots leaving comments, who is there really to blame about THAT?

    Wrong.

Not only does the PS3 controller not have true motion sensing capabilities, it doesn't even have rumble, something that while not important to everyone, does annoy many people. And while I admit that it's not enough alone to really impact the sales of the whole console, it is just another point against it.

As for it's tilt controls, they will absolutely in NO WAY offer what the Wiimote will.

Wiimote: Can be used as a pointing device at the screen. Detects tilt, and 3D orientation relative to screen. Has rumble. Has speaker. Has port for extra gadget hookups (Wii Classic and Nunchuka).

Sixaxis: Lacks rumble, only detects tilt.

To even begin to say that the PS3 offers the features of the Wii is ridiculous fud.

I wouldn't say Ms Pac Man is "better", I would just say it's a natural progression for those who have mastered Pac Man. It's essentially the same game with different level designs and, as you have noticed, harder to develope patterns.

  17. Re:Nostalgia on Everything Old is Old Again · · Score: 5, Insightful

Even if the code to PacMan were lost, you could write that sort of gameplay again in just a couple of hours.

Granted, you could make a pretty faithful Pac-Man clone in a few hours, maybe less if you weren't too picky about how close it was, but to make an exact duplicate would be difficult for a few reasons.

First, the Ghosts aren't exactly random, and they aren't exactly "patterns". They more or less respond in accordance to the player and almost precisely at that. A really good player with excellent timing can develope a pattern that will result in the ghosts moving in exactly the same way each time. The best players have a pattern for each level up to level 18 at least.

Each of the four ghosts have a response different from the others so while in a very indirect way the player may be "controlling" the ghosts they are designed to respond in a way that makes them more or less close in on the player.

Pac-Man is a brilliant game in a lot of ways. Some people really appreciate how brilliant it is, and they're the ones with the 50,000+ scores. Some people just acknoledge that it's a classic. Others only know it because it's famous. But no matter how you look at it Pac-Man is going to stick around a long time because it just happens to be fun.
