what's really killing the US Anime market the most is dubs. Seriously, if companies like ADV stopped wasting their time and ressources on fucking dubbing and sold only subs:
1) Prices would drop due to lower costs of localization, which would be a very good thing because Anime is way too expensive.
2) Releases would be faster. Fansubs prove that quality subbing can be done in a matter of days, and those guys are only doing it on their spare time! Companies have no excuses.
I agree. And it doesn't even have to be a Web page. There are some things I wrote on/. while pissed off a while ago that I really feel bad about, and may be held against me in the future (if they can associate me with my nickname, that is).
C'mon people! 5% "Others"?? Those statistics are worthless.

About your argument #1: Yes, C# is an ANSI standard programming language. However, a programming language is worthless without APIs. Nowadays whenever someone does C# work, they use some of Microsoft's proprietary APIs. If/when Microsoft decides to kill off unauthorized reproductions of their APIs (ie. Mono), most C# apps will be rendered Microsoft-only.
Trolltech makes money selling commercial licenses. They sell X11 and OSX licenses too, you know. Having a free Windows version doesn't change anything to their business model.
I completely agree. You'd figure by now the movie industry has figured that their menus are hard to use, especially to a computer-illeterate user (ie. probably more than half their audience).
Hell, since I moved away from my parents' house they no longer rent DVDs. Yep, back to VHS, because they find DVD menus too confusing and frustrating. They don't care about special features or better image/sound quality, so for them DVDs were only a step backwards. And I'm sure they're not the only ones who feel that way.
"If Steve's really smart, he'll add some version of the DirectX API to the MacOS, since this seems to be the top objection of people considering the switch."
Uh, no. It doesn't work that way. There's no way in hell that Microsoft will license DirectX to OS X.
Indeed. SWT on Linux plain sucks, partly because SWT/GTK+ is botched up, and partly because GTK+ is already pretty sluggish in the first place. Add up the two and you get a real disaster. I find Eclipse to be perfectly usable on a moderately fast machine on Windows, but with a similar computer under Linux the GUI is slow as mollasses. It's getting really ridiculous.
I really wish they'd bring back the Qt frontend for SWT. I don't give a living fuck about license conflicts, just give me a damn source-only release and I'll compile it myself!
The virtualized OS has no direct access to hardware. VMWare does have USB tunnelling, but direct access to the video card would be basically impossible to do (how the hell would both OS "share" it? from a technical viewpoint it just can't be done)
A virtualisation software like VMWare is really just an emulator, only the CPU instructions run natively. Everything else is pure emulation.
They've basically managed to put the dogs into complete "cryogenic" sleep, and bring them back to full health hours later. Pretty cool in scientific terms, but not really anything like zombies, as the retarded guy who wrote the article seems to want us to believe.
God, how braindead can those guys be? It doesn't fucking matter how technologically superior their competing product is, because NOBODY KNOWS ABOUT IT. Apple has put up publicity everywhere they could to promote the iPod. Everyone knows about it. But ask anyone about the Rio Karma or the Dell DJ or whatever, and you'll get blank looks. And for good reason, how the fuck are they supposed to know about it, even less care about maybe buying it instead of an iPod?
I say scrap the R&D dept. and actually do some goddamn publicity for your products instead. Maybe then you can hope to eat some of Apple's near-100% share of the market.
We must be living in different dimensions then. Except for a bunch of fellow Linux users, I don't personally know anyone who doesn't pirate all the software he uses.
What drivers? A typical Dell computer has fully Intel intergrated components, and a GPU from Intel, ATi or nVidia. The Intel Mac boxes will have fully Intel intergrated components, and a GPU from Intel, ATi or nVidia. Yeah, it's sure gonna be a bitch to write all those drivers, since the hardware configurations are sooooo different...
In theory, the only obstacle standing in the way is the Apple-branding check. Whether this is going to be hard to break or not remains to be seen, but as far as hardware drivers are concerned, it's not even an issue, as long as you're trying it on a motherboard with an Intel chipset.

All three companies are claiming their systems are "more than just a gaming system", so I don't really see the difference here.
HDTV-only by 2006? LOL

Yeah but the Eclipse devs don't seem to realize it. Or they just don't want to.

My original point exactly.
Yes, it's a licensing issue. Read here.

"untapped" girl gamers.
Hey, I'd "tap" those girl gamers any day.

You fail for copying the quote verbatim, without modifying it for the context, like everyone else in that thread has. In short: you're a dumbass.

I hope you're just kidding, or really ignorant. There's no virtualization solution out there that's even close to be somewhat usable for games.
Sad but true. People don't care about price, they'll just pirate it anyway.
"You could buy a subscription once a year and spend only $15 a year, which is a lot less than most people spend on games."
Sadly, most people pirate all the computer games they play, so I can't say I agree with that statement.
Will you Americans drop your retarded measuring system already? This is about Japan for fuck's sake, so why is it mentionned in miles??

A bit offtopic but insightful. This should be modded up.
