>Did the price of albums drop when CD's were introduced?
But this analogy is not a very good one. Artists are tied in to one record label. I cannot choose to listen to a John Mayall album from Sony Records as he was signed by Castle Records. The record companies can get away with selling you C.D.'s for $20 because the content is available through them exclusively. With T.V.'s however, I can buy any brand of T.V. set and still be able to watch the Discovery Channel.
Speeding up and slowing down slowly is not only good for your gas mileage (it has been proven) but it is also good for the wear and tear on your car. Stopping rapidly causes a lot more friction on the brakes and puts a lot of stress on the suspension. Speeding up rapidly puts a lot of unneeded pressure on the engine components, the transmission, the differential, etc.
Hybrid cars are no different. But on top of said points hybrid cars use power from the electric engine to help stop the car. Stopping rapidly uses a lot more energy from the electric engine requiring the gasoline engine to kick on to recharge it more frequently.
All in all: Speeding up and slowing down rapidly will not only hurt the size of your wallet but also your car.
A hybrid cars MPG varies a lot depending on the driving being done. You see, hybrid vehicles have two engines: one electric and one gas powered. The car tries to use the electric as much as possible to reduce the amount of gasoline used. Stop and go driving in the city is ideal as it allows the car to use the electric engine almost entirely. However, driving on the highway at high speeds requires more output from the gas engine and thus reduces gas mileage.
The EPA tests for hybrid cars are very unrealistic. The tests are done with all of the accessories turned off. Many of the accessories (heater, AC) require the gas engine to be running at all times and will really cause your mileage to go down the shitter.
If you want a win-win situation do what I was going to do. Major in computer engineering and double major or minor in mathematics. Computer engineering (at least where I took it) dealt with both hardware and software. Basically we'd learn how to wire up circuits and then write assembly code to control them. On top of that we learned higher level languages such as C and C++. All of this experience plus a math degree will get you set no matter what you decide to do. From people that I have talked to some IT businesses are likely to hire math majors over computer science majors when it comes to programming.
I've been following it for over a year now and according to rumor it's supposed to be released sometime this year. And there's going to be a linux port so long as the devs stick to their word.
I have a TV set for ONE reason and ONE reason only: To watch sports. Once in a while I might catch something on TLC or Discovery or Public Access that is halfway educational but otherwise TV is just an annoyance to me. The annoyance/waste-of-time of the commercials completely negates anything positive I could gain from watching something like reality TV. Personally, I feel dumber after sitting in front of a TV for two hours watching this so-called entertainment. If I want entertainment I'll go get fucking drunk and go to a titty bar.
Why TV is such a dominant form of media is beyond me. I went with a TV for almost a year and everybody would always be shocked when I told them I didn't have a TV. Now I have one so I can watch some baseball and football on ESPN. Other than that I'll watch commercial-less DVDs that I get unlimited rentals to for $10/month at Hollywood Video.

That's aksarben that they have been tearing down for the past few years. As you can see most of the buildings are still erect (which are now down) but you can see the soccer fields that replaced the old horse track less than three years ago. That parkinglot was put in about 1 1/2 years ago which is also shown.

This is the qwest center. As you can see it is built and there are definately festivities taking place. However, the Hilton which sits across the street isn't completed. This is most noticable by the fact that there is no walkway connecting the two. So I'd say this map is between 1 and 1 1/2 years old.
This in no way supports the claim that p2p is legal. It has no bearing on whether one person can legally share copyrighted works with anybody else. All it is saying is that users should have the right to copy digital media for personal use. Distributing those copies is a completely different issue.
It's noon and April fools day is half over. Could we please stop with the joke posts already? You had me worried with this article until I remembered what day it is.
I've noticed that some places will check the signature and some places don't.
What I do is write "See ID" on the back of my credit cards. That way when a cashier checks the signature (s)he'll ask to see my ID (which happens quite a bit). It makes it harder for somebody to steal my card.
You can _customize_ the firefox toolbars. I have a new tab button on one of my toolbars bright as day and it is possible to move the search bar to a different toolbar and allow the url box to span all the way across...if that's what cures your itch.
What about those flyers that Roy's Auto World puts under the windshield wiper of my truck every morning? I can't ignore those either unless I feel like poking my head out the driver side window so I can see where I'm going. It takes valuable time for me to rip those off, walk them all the way over to the dumpster, throw them away, and walk back. I have to take the time to recognise it and delete it. How is this different than spam? Should it be illegal too?
This is exactly why slashdot sucks so much. It is filled with 10 year old close-minded 31335ests who resort to personal defamation as a counter argument.
theft n.
1. The act or an instance of stealing; larceny.
larceny n.
The unlawful taking and removing of another's personal property with the intent of permanently depriving the owner; theft.
When you download warez off the internet you are not depriving somebody of their property...you are copying it. Therefore it is NOT theft. It IS copyright infringement.
On top of that, most of the copyright infringement that goes on on the internet is a civil matter, not criminal.
It depends on how you define feeling. Feeling is basically chemical reactions in the body. You could say that the robot feels shame because of electrical changes in the robot (different commands). Like the robot, we are programmed to feel shame. How is our shame different than the shame that the robot shows/feels?
Looking further ahead, Reeves spoke about Sony's 'ultimate goal' for PlayStation 3 - 'to get into electronic broadband distribution'."
When Tim Roberts was asked his opinions on Sony's future plans for the Playstation, he promptly replied, "Electronic broadband distribution? That will never work."
One question: Why do they have your religion posted on the realID cards?

The game looks good but I'm goign to be holding out for a similar game:
Cold War

And to think that I was considering buying a Tivo. I'm definately going to pass on it now.

And stupid me, I showed up with my face painted like Gene Simmons expecting to see KiSS.

And how exactly do you define consciousness? Is it possible to program a robot with a conscience? It's debatable.

Ya...It's hard enough to pump my own gas now-a-days.
Charge a 15 year old girl for sending nudie pictures of herself to people she met in chatrooms.
and if they don't train their replacements, they don't get their severance pay. It would suck to be in that position.
