    actually i think i use the bigger case/hdd screws on the mobo as they hold it alot better if its goign to be held upright and say holding 2 athlons with huge heatsyncs.

    the small ones don't fit in the brass coloured thingys without falling out do they? also the big ones have a much tighter grip into those little dot rise dealieys that are in a metal ring around the hole.

    i havent built a machine in like half a year but im pretty sure thats how i built them in the past.

    of course the worst screw is the compaq mounting screw where you have to use twice the normal amount of screws just so they can have the lil rails for easy component removal. of course you have to take the rails off the drives too so its actually making more work for you but ITS COMPAQ so it has to be gh3y.

    i found some picatures! and they seem to back up that 103 is supposed to be used on the mainboard. so pishaw!

    the only reason i use ie, well 2 reasons, but the main one is that when i put in d: into the address bar, it automagically turns into windows explorer so i can view files and stuff.

    also mozilla renders the page as its being downloaded and IE does it after its downloaded. so when i get a webpage in mozilla i have a bunch of images and shit loading. In IE i have a whole page albiet it takes a few seconds longer but it makes it alot prettier.

    Ok well that makes sense but I just dont see it hurting linux really. The mainstream media of course will draw a connection but I doubt it will stick in peoples minds as "all linux users cause problems". Don't people already know that most viruses come from spammers?

    A few business people i do work for are aware of this from media reports. When I said to them that spammers write viruses/backdoors/trojans to use as mailing stations, they could understand that, it makes sense. If i were to say, look theres a worm that will take this site off the internet for a period of like 15 days, and then terminte itself -- well thats alot more benigne in my opinion.

    the best example of this is that there are hundreds of microsoft worms, virsuses, scams and people still use microsoft products. I am frequently reading news reports that blame microsoft for having flaws to allow these things to happen. Does the general public in any way blame microsoft? no.

    the conculsion i would draw is that it will have a not proveable, unsubstantited link to a comunity -- one of many -- that dislikes what sco is doing. I guess people are stupid enough say linux == virus writers, but i would generally give people more credit than that.

    ok i take that back, you have to think of the lowest common denominator i guess. I was mainly arguing that people really do support this, its just that they are not saying it becuase, as some poster said, we have to present a united front of denoucement for these activities. to disassociate ourselves.

    I personally dont like lying to myself but i understand the societial good that it would do.

    you know i am goign to post this on my account and everything because i really want someone to read it. in the past two days the slashdot groupthink has gone from 90% "fuck sco im glad there getting hurt" to 90% "virus writers are evil i ahve to work a few extra hours to clean up my improperly administered network" . fucking hypocrites. whats the point in hating something so much, like down to your very core, if you dont turn slightly evil in the process?

    sure its not "right" but its fucking sco. i seriosuly doubt weither you people really hate sco or if you can even really hate things. its part of being human to get pissed off and wish bitter death upon your enemies in any way possible.

    if they slander linux, insult torvalds, insult us all - dont they deserve the same "respect" in return?

    dont even bother quoting nietzsche "lest thee become the monster" because, well maybe someone who is not you should become evil. AND WE SHOULD BE THANKFULL that we didnt have to make that sacrafice. is it wrong to route for evil if its the enemy of your enemy?

    i would think not, but slashdot.... seriously just fuck you all. wheres the fun in hating sco casually?

    its just liek the MPAA. hate them till LOTR comes out on DVD. then youll all suck some nice MPAA cock to get a copy before the others. its almost like no one takes this shit seriously or you've all grown up and sold out. or i take it too seriously. who knows. at least the virus has some positive effect on the world, unlike most.

    im pretty sure that there will be a 50's revival of culture on mars at the time of my death.

    we need projects that bring the entire world together. going to mars could do that. Also i think that americans love to spend money on 'defense'. if all that money were moved to something vaguely constructive we could teraform mars within a few generations. INAMTE (mars terraforming expert) so i'm not sure but I am sure that if governements poured as much money into trying to survive as they do trying to kill eatchother we would be alot better off.

    commericals make whatever they are advertising on their "bitch". as in if you dont please the advertisers then they pull the funding that you need to keep running. this in effect, puts them in control of content that the company produces. personally i do not care as none of those sites (espn, msn) i would ever visit. i care because it sets a precident.

    a good example of abuse would be one of these sites doing a "study" that concludes that advertising in this way is the best way to do it. this article could lead to wide spread adoption and thus more control.

    its not very far from reality to see this happening. do you think all the companies under the GE umbrella ever speak badly about GE?

    well i watched it and its all about how the media is the only source of information (pre internet of course) and how that makes people only think in certain ways. so yes i can say that even though someone made a documentary about it (i think it was more like a plug for the book IMHO), that it is ok in pirating it.

    of course i pirate everything because as michael moore and southpark both say; the message is more important than profit off said message.

    That all being said, my personal feelings are that we should definately send people all over the solar system. However I see it only happening when:

    1) Countries start working together instead of getting into pissing contests.

    2) MegaCorps have nothing or very little to do with it.I dont want to look up at the microsoft moon^(tm) thanks...

    3) Money is diverted from Military uses which really dont do anythign to benifit mankind at all. Well except for reducing populations that one could argue... nevermind.

    i still dont believe they are giving hard drugs to kids like that. I have been an experimental drug user for years and ive done LOTS of types of drugs. Ritilin is speed. I have also heard this expressed as ritilin is speed after puberty hits. sadly, most people dont take their kids off of it in highschool.

    YES it will get you better grades. YES it will help you focus. But i have seen people that have been on perscription ritilin for 10+years and they have some very weird issues. It makes you just as sketchy as any amphetamine, and the long term effects are down right scary. Everything from facial ticks to hyper sensitivity to constant feelings of restlessness - ive seen them all. Not to mention that the people who I know who were on perscription ritilin are VERY much more likely to drift into every other sort of chemical drug.

    Chemicals are the worst way to get high and the only reason that they are considered "safe" for longterm use is that the pharmasutical industry has beat the government into submision. Its scary when i watch american TV and every 3rd ad is an ad for a drug that promises a "brave new world" of feeling good and "correct" all the time. this is the root issue. Back in the day(tm) people ACCEPTED that they were different from one another. Depression, lack of focus, listlessness and an excess of energy were just normal traits. I do not for a second buy the line that doctors just didnt know how to diagnoise and treat these things before and thats why we are only seeing them now.

    To deny people to feel depressed or anxious or restless is to DENY YOURSELF HUMANITY. These unfavourable societial attitudes should be treated with societal treaments. Kids too hyper? maybe you should stop letting the blipvert TV entertain them and do some parenting.

    Its so sad that what was considered a personal quirk or mannerism 100 years ago is now a disease that you have to pay 500$ a month to cure. Of course these diseases will never be cured: because they are not diseases but things that make people different from eachother.

    a better windows friendly way to do it is to pirate a program called netlimiter (or buy if your so inclined). ive been using it for months and got it for the purposes of easily changing the cap on the upload bandwidth of BT.

    i couldnt figure out how to add that command line to the main program so when i click on a link it is always enacted as a rule. this program i highly recomend though as it allows me to cap any windows tcp/ip connection (doesnt seem to work for ipx). it has monitoring graphs as well as collecting statistics and monitoring all connections made in and out of the pc.

    its also quite friendly on ram and cpu.

    that the videos use of Tflops as a mesurement (and whoever makes that top 10 supercomputer list referenced in the video) is not an acurate measure of computing power. rather the inifinity band interconnect they use for networking was why that number is so high (10.35 tflops).

    anyone have any more technical info on this? i was left thinking from another article that tflops is a poor way to measure computing performance but i cant remmeber where i read that.
