Comparing posting pictures on the internet to stealing one's identity is kind of a stretch. One is blatently illegal, and as stated in parent, the legality of this is unknown.

Even on an ethical level, many people post personal pictures on a website/blog, though I don't think they go around impersonating themselves or others.

Illegal? Probably not. Immoral? Maybe. A cruel or at least embarressing joke? Yes. Made me laugh :)

Can't read the article of course, but will this be the next big push for linux on the desktop? Or is it more for the server crowd?

Being able to install apps without going into a dependancy hell should boost the public's view of the user friendliness of linux.

I watch Dish Network on a 52" HD Mitsubishi Diamond and DO notice artifacts daily, especially on shots of water: ocean, rivers, etc.

That is a good point, especially with digital cable and satellite being broadcast in MPEG2. I'm not sure if I want to see digital zoom on that.

So where exactly do you draw the line between creating your own "pop" / "commercial radio" playlist, and cloning Clear Channel's playlists of the same type?

This is not at all like CocaCola, there are no ingredients, there isn't a blatent formula to follow. The only valid point I see the radio station making is if MSN radio is actually using local call signs on their playlists, which is unclear in the article.

  13. Overcoming AGP bandwidth issues on Audio Processing on Your Graphics Card? · · Score: 1

Since AGP is designed to have a huge pipe in one direction, and almost nothing coming back, why aren't additional interfaces added to overcome these limitations.

For example, using a GPU as a synthesizer or audio processor, a couple of ADAT (8 channel digital) outs could be put on the actual AGP card, allowing a user to feed the data into a mixer or soundcard etc.

Or video processing outputted via Firewire only to be rerouted back into the computer for capture.

Of course any of these things could be done internally with ribbon cables to connect to soundcard or motherboard or whatever.

  14. Re:So... on Apple Launches iTunes Affiliate Program · · Score: 1

If you earn more than $25 in a given month

Seems pretty clear to me, earning meaning $25 you earned from 5% of each 99c song, as opposed to selling or referring $25 in sales for Apple.

Besides, waiting until you earn $1.25 (5% of $25) still seems like too little to cut a check and send it.

  15. Incentive for smaller labels? on Apple Launches iTunes Affiliate Program · · Score: 5, Insightful

Seems like this might be an additional incentive for smaller labels to join up with iTunes store, or perhaps even independant artists to start doing so.

I'm not exactly sure how Apple signs labels (or individuals) even after a bit of browsing on their site.

...but I have been waiting to purchase music from Warp records online for quite a long time. With iTunes and other music services offering mainstream music, albeit DRM crippled, there are so many smaller independant labels that are not represented online.

So, not only is this a step in the right direction for anti-DRM music downloads, its a step in the right directions for getting smaller, lesser known labels distributing music online. I most certainly will be purchasing (its been awhile..hehe) music from this service.
