I think he meant that anyone under about 30 hasn't been able to talk to people that were present at WWII.
I'm 25, and my grandfather fought in Korea. I have heard plenty of Korean war stories, but not so many WWII stories. The most WWII education i have is from either high school or Call of Duty.
People over about 30 years old probably have parents/grandparents that could tell them stories about the war. I wasn't so lucky. I actually know almost nothing about the First World War. off to Wikipedia i go!
Operating system concepts were being first hashed out in the 1950s, that's only 60 years ago (at worst). So it's safe to say that the concept of an operating system hasn't yet lived longer then the average human...
Scientists in the united states largely measure temperature in degrees C (or K). Farenheit is only used by common people watching the weather report. that's pretty much it.
I own that shirt. All it does is remind people that you are capable of fixing their problems, which they make a note of and ask you when you're not wearing the shirt.
Actually cooperative multitasking still has it's niche, and is still used by plenty of modern equipment; It is used heavily by DSPs and deeply embedded real time systems.
although, something like the iPhone probably should jettison it; it's treading dangerously close to a general-purpose computer, and it's environment isn't as tightly controlled as the real-time systems i mentioned earlier.
It's not that big of a deal, and it's certainly not "Russian roulette". They'll most likely be using these computers to run Microsoft office, which isn't that different on the different platform. Also, computer skills tend to translate, so any computer exposure is usually a good thing.
Using a computer just isn't that hard or foreign of a concept these days. Kids these days have enough exposure to technology that they're not afraid to use a system they haven't seen before. 90% of the time the computer is just a web browser anyway.
At the end of the day, the types of programs that one needs to run on high school computers will run just fine on a mac. namely, C or Java compilers, word processors, web browsers.
The kids are alright, i promise. shame they have to spend so much money though...
That would require humanity to agree with itself. Landmines are one method of eliminating opposition. Clearing landmines is one way of...not being eliminated.
The technical knowledge that they lack is that there are other devices that do (and have been doing) everything the ipad claims to do, cheaper, for years.
Apple is REALLY GOOD at convincing the public that they have created the next big thing, when really they have just packaged and overpriced the last big thing...
There's nothing unsafe about pointer arithmetic, unless you do things in a lazy way and don't think things through. As long as you design your objects ahead of time, and make sure to cover all of your edge cases, you'll be fine.
I think a major problem with modern CS education is that students are taught that pointer math is "unsafe", and end up afraid to even try it. Maybe this is why so much software ends up getting written in java or c#, and my 3 GHz Core 2 doesn't feel any faster then the 2ghz Athlon I had 8 years ago...
Hey, that joke just turned 15! shouldn't we have a slashdot story about it?
Software companies promote vaporware... News at 11.
Kind of like that, except with transparent mechanical keys sitting on top.
It's important to note that they didn't fire the guy that designed the antenna... they fired the guy that managed the guy that designed the antenna.
Yes, but how could they verify that we bested hamlet?
You just have to be damn sure that the hook is set to land anything. Or have a really long-handled net.
The video i watched was in black and white...i was under the impression colors hadn't been invented yet!
is there a Turner Colorized version somewhere?

I always thought it stood for economy!
Let's not forget the eMac.... we've come full circle!
Given the fact that he stole his position, "finding" extra votes in car trunks and the like, yes, it really pisses me off that he is a senator.
Although i agree with him on this ONE issue, Al Franken is a scumbag. (the old SNL sketches were funny though, he should have stuck to comedy.)
+1 funny! wish i had the mod points.

all in all, it fails at it's intended purpose.
Actually, Ford didn't accept a bailout...
They're on their own.

Problem is, the touch-only form factor isn't exactly ideal for 'real work'.

So buy a different game.

I've driven around the DC beltway at 5pm on a friday. it's not something i'd want to simulate (or relive in any way)
