I wouldn't say the atom is pathetic...it solves a certian problem reasonably well. It's a little slower then your white hot core 2 whatever, but it serves it's purpose as a low-power x86 compatable processor. Beats the crap out of a pentium or celeron running at the same clock.
That's not to say an arm or similar might not solve the problem better...
On paper, you need the extra white to reflect as much reading light back at you as possible.
with a computer display, the light is generated behind the text, so you don't need the sheer volume of light a white background gives you. This was even more true of old CRT displays, but even an LCD backlight produces way to much light to read comfortably. Note that non-backlit displays follow the opposate convention, and really benefit from a light background.
in conclusion, go with what you're comfortable with; what do a bunch of dorks on slashdot know anyway?
You seem to have misunderstood my comment completely. I wasn't trying to force anyone to use a CLI. If you and anyone else wants to use a GUI, go right on ahead. I'm absolutely positive that if it weren't for the GUI being invented, there wouldn't be a computer in every home, and the internet wouldn't be the wonderful thing it is today.
That being said, i find it REAL frustrating to look for a damn icon on the damn start menu, when i think it's much easier just to type 'firefox' into a window. that's all.
Also, you seem to have shoved the word 'stupid' into my mouth. I never said anyone was stupid. I said people are afraid to try something that they are not used to.
Some people like driving a standard transmission. I like my cli. Why can't we just agree that there is room for both paradigms and just move on?
This fear is the problem. Using a CLI is not irritating. It's just a different way of doing things.
With a little education, your average joe sixpack could be proficient with the cli. It's just that he doesn't want to.
Using a cli doesn't give you geek cred. I'm sorry if i've offended anyone. It happens to be a more direct way of interacting with your hardware. that's all.
Care to back that statement up with some sort of data? I happen to have made a career writing software for IED detection and disposal devices. I can tell you first hand that IEDs exist.
I'm so freaking tired of god damn conspiracy theorists. Why don't all the trolls go back to mirroring goatse, like the good old days?
we know what ascii art is. we know what flip books are. those wikipedia links are annoying.
Has the DMCA been proven in court? Has anyone been punished for circumventing CSS?
I wonder how long it will take Apple to crack into gaming and really hit the big time?
Two words: Apple Pippin.
The movie was Broken Arrow. I'm not happy to have been reminded of it...
Not that i agree with the article, but LabVIEW sucks.
They weren't revolutionary human beings, they were human beings who did revolutionary things. there's a difference.
The iPad isn't anything new, and it doesn't do anything new. QED.
Watch it again. I liked it when it came out, but 12 years and a whole lot of education later the whole premise of the movie is completely ridiculous.
also, Jack Black and Seth Green as surveillance techs? bleh.
The difference between $7 vodka and $80 vodka is the hangover the next day.....
although the difference between the $25 and $80 vodka is negligible.

Documentation helps.

I call foul on this.

I like that idea...same universe, different characters doing a different thing. Maybe re-do the whole series from the point of view of the federation.
The hard part would be coming up with 10 or so more characters that are as easy to get attached to as the crew of the serenity...
You must be fun at parties
That says way more about the peace prize then it says about Obama.

Next Question.
HAHAHAHA ...seriously. that joke was old back in like 1999.
I have written bad code. I try to make all my code good, but the occasional bad line slips through. I'll admit it.
Mod parent up. As an engineering graduate, i can attest that i've taken exams where 20% was a passing grade.
Well then you might miss tonight's airing of Dallas
Ok i understand not reading the article. I understand not reading the summary. But not reading the post you're replying to?
slashdot gets more progressive every day.
Ok, troll, i'll bite...

Great, now the asians can kick my ass at mario kart with less impact on global bandwidth...
I agree. This is what i used for freshman level physics courses in college.
For math courses though (and higher math-heavy physics courses) i reverted to a good quad rule composition book. can't beat it!
