    To tell ya the truth, we're just pissed because we can be. We're annoyed at having to fix the computers of friends and reletives that are constantly infected with spyware, etc. We're pissed at the lack of commercial software for our OS of choice. There are many reasons for the saltyness of the average slashdotter.

    It's not nessesarily a functionality issue so much as an ease of use issue. an [insert open source system here] system can do just about anything a mac can do, you just have to jump through a few hoops.

    so...easy or philosophically sound; that's your choice.

    no, the poor college kids from the south like PBR. here at penn state, the main cheap beer is Natural Light (tastes like pisswater) or Natural ICE (pisswater with a headache). High life is gold in comparison.

    Actually it does sound different. A Bb trumpet has a generally brighter sound, while a bugle sounds duller and warmer.
    (I was a bugler for the boy scouts and a Bb trumpet player in my high school's Marching Band)

    Hey, not all those millions on welfare even want jobs. Many are deadbeats or drug addicts. Just because the welfare system in this country is a little broken is no reason to take it out on the rest of us who aren't afraid to work for a livin'.

    I've got a verizon LG VX6100 that let's me sync and usbmodem, in linux no less!. I would start with the compatability list for BITPIM and narrow your search down from there.

    While i do agree that webmin is mostly crap, i do most of my admistering of my two linux systems over here in text. Plaintext configuration is wonderful, it allows for real easy perl automation, just takes a little getting used to. my 2 cents.

    Slackware's BSD style boot scripts just make more sense to me than the SYSV boot scripts most other distros use. Me likey.

    Because it is an expensive piece of very niche hardware. The average user doesn't need extremely fast FFT, DSP, or whatever operations on the cpu.

    The reason Math Coprocessors (like the 487) got built into the die was because as more and more people used things like photoshop, the floating point performance came out of the realm of 'niche' and into the mainstream. All in all, most people would be better off with a second opteron in the server to hand out web pages and e-mail, rather than this which is more suited to speacialty applications like scientific computing or signal processing.
