I don't know if I should friend this person for their insight into the truth of human nature, or make them an enemy and run screaming into the night... Mostly I just want to mod as depressing.:-(
If the actions are going to be recorded, I would say there is no reason to play it back in the engine itself. May as well make a movie of it so it would require less from the computers playing it, and you could show it to more people.
You'd need to figure out the blocking ahead of time, or run through a level a few times to get placement and viewing angles just right, and the person playing or in the end editing it together would need some directorial sense of what's going on beyond just playing the game, but the possibility is interesting.
I feel part of the fun of playing HL games is the setting sometimes. You just get finished running away form some baddie and you stumble into a quiet clearing with a nice view that you can calmly walk around and feel the soothing effects of a well done setting, which just wouldn't happen if you are putting together a movie. You'd get the elements of the story, a little action, but no real sense of have the game *feels*.
Perhaps I am coming from a different direction than you, but for me it seems like the original purpose of being allowed to keep weapons was to keep the government from taking complete control. In the last recourse you could take up arms against a tyrannical government and get rid of them by force. I don't think we have the ability to stand against what the government can throw at us anymore; we get to have rifles and handguns, but what good can we do against a 2000 pound bomb falling in our backyard guided by a satellite gps system launched by someone over the horizon?
For the most part, state run lotteries are merely a way for the state itself to punish the stupid and those bad at math, for it's own personal gain. If it weren't for the tens of thousands of people buying those tickets, your taxes would be higher than they are now.
Instead of just "check engine"... how about a dashboard that says: "um, excuse me, this is your engine, I'm running OK, but cylinder 4 has poor ignition, probably needs a new spark plug lead." or "Hi, you've cracked a cylinder head, kiss your wallet goodbye."
I see you're are trying to drive your car. Would you like me to take over for you?
You seem to be making an arguement that says our lot in live is good enough whatever it may be, as long as we are happy. It sounds nice, but seriously... look around; don't you want something better? We do okay for ourselves, but presented with the opportunity to live 100 years as a (biological) 30 year old, in perfect health, with no chance of disease, in a world without competition for resources... wouldn't you try to reach for that?
It isn't so much about changin yourself, it is about opening doors to new methods of expression, and to finding out at a deeper level just who we are in the vast scheme of the cosmos.
I don't think we are going to have to worry about "versions" of nanotech. Say you have zero clue as to the workings of computers or the nanites you are injected with before the implantation, would it not then be a simple task to learn the subject inside and out with the assistance of said technology? You could become an expert in any field at any time. It might be dangerous to make the comparison, but this is just the sort of thing they did in The Matrix. I know we all remember Trinity asking to have the knowlege on how to fly a helicopter uploaded into her brain. What if instead we wanted to know the programming and fabrication techniques for all (open?) standards of nanotech? Once you have that, coupled with your own native intelligence you have all the tools necesary to modify what is within you that allowed you to learn how to effect the change in the first place. It is a minor step in the direction of the Singularity... assuming it works the way I have explained. The best thing going for my idea is that Sci FI has already gone there, which means there are hundreds more of people with the same idea I have, subconciously pushing tech trends in that direction.
Maybe you'd like to be the one to try to find the American news source indicating significant change in America. Whoops my bad, when it comes to American news everyone is too concerned over the weather in Florida, what was happening with Kobe, whether Michael was touching some kid at his ranch, or some other crap to actually pay attention to anything of importance like that. The BBC was offering some of the best news coverage of shit going down in Iraq. Quality journalism doesn't change just cause the news people don't have alegiance to your specific country.
The funniest part will be when they actually allow the computer do decide upon the location of the pieces that the city will be bult into, and it selects to put them in position of the Fools Mate.
It does however give you plausible deniability. How many people on slashdot could actually be expected to know the gain on a home-made wireless antenna kit... okay maybe a bad example. But still, the people out there in the real world wouldn't expect us to know accurately, so you could just say you thought it was weaker, and they couldn't do too much to you.
Now all we need is an aimbot for out troops.

Where in that list does Al Gore fit in? After all if it weren't for him there would be no internet, right?
Oh and please, when you sue him and lose, demand a recount.
Honestly, the only problems I ever had with the Borg was that their method of bringing people into the collective was not voluntary. Essentially it was a kind of rape. They are primarily computer/logic minded so one can almost see how they would not be able to conceive the wrongness of such an act. If that policy were to change to one of merely asking people to "come in" as it were, and a few aesthetic improvements on their wearables, I myself would be willing to join up. It seems like it'd be cool.

I think you are missing the point that only fewer soldiers on OUR SIDE die. The casulaties on the other will make up for the discrepancy.
Sorry, the thread talking about the dangerous addictive nature of porn is one article over.
Ah, go fork yourself.
I was getting really impatient for Skynet.

You had better make sure that the time spent away from playing is well and truly justified... and you know what the means: sex, lots of sex.

Let's not sell our collective destiny short.

On the plus side, by that time your car will be able to pilot itself while you play Duke Nukem Forever.

Actually I believe it is more formally known as Bukkake.
But still a spectable, eh?

I am pretty damn sure that the end is realizing that everyone lies and is completely full of shit all the time, and usually without realizing it.
Special Edition new scenes = sucked.
Episode 1 = sucked.
Episode 2 = sucked.
Episode 3 = ?
Profit?
Let me be the first to point out a crystalline metal structure would chaffe like a bitch.
On behalf of the Slashdot community, I would like to ask "What for is this Penis you speak of?"
