If my son ever expressed an interest in IT, I'd do EVERYTHING in my power to change his mind. Lawyer, artist, trash truck driver, plumber, pet groomer...Yes, go enjoy what you do.
Worthless PHB's & their spawn ruined the field.
(but then the study seemed to have something w/a headhunter site)
Very archive looking draft sketch, but if you've got the infrastructure, it's a start. (that's a BIG if)
A U235 design would be more interesting, if only from a "KISS principle" pov, but then again, the main problem is where to get useful amounts of fissionables.
We're trying for Mid-Pacific impact on 13 April, but there's some remaining flight instability due to the off center mass concentrations of the projectile.
Simple version - R&D costs limited to "will this work in that config?", they don't have to develop much beyond a wiring harness & "air frame" to bolt it to.
Software issues can cripple this sort of project, but nowhere near as much as feature creep could.
computerworld.au leasing server time from a webcomic like schlockmercenary, at least that site doesn't drop to a crawl when slashdotted.
I also foresee smart apps being configured by idiots more often. Things like CaseSentry being used to monitor test servers or offices that are closed on weekends and then spamming folks w/emails when they fail outside of normal hours. (Ok, I cheated on that one, it's already here)
All rolled into one. That's our usual. It's our fault they don't know what they're doing, because it's setup WRONG and they're Dr/Board Member/etc....
It's our fault the DOS era program they insist on using for XXX won't play nice, because WE set it up WRONG for them.
It's our fault the tech on site didn't setup the voicemail for their phone/install the camera that they didn't leave/or install the "nice printer" they brought from home.
Add in micro-manager PHB's that want emails sent to all network teams if a network device misses 1 ping & then say how wonderful it will be when they can install a camera in EVERY network closet....
Now it's the "service" jobs? Something really wonderful when the marginal pay jobs are being replaced with robotics.
Machines can't ask for benefits, sue for safer conditions, unionize or any of that nasty stuff.
Now all they need to do is actually buy all the wonderful outsourced or made in China items they're shipping.
Of course they'll also have to realize at some point that maybe replacing 5 guys that made 20k$ a year with a 2 million dollar system wasn't such a cunning plan, but by then, it'll be time to write off the system for the stockholders so the board can get a bigger bonus./morning grouch mode <ON>
Verizon's DSL modem seems to have a minor ourbreak of "resets" when I try to d/l any torrents. It was also happening for a short while when doing some vid conf nonsense, but at least that seems to have stopped.
Given that Comcrap managed to brick a 3Com OfficeConnect modem I owned when they attempted to flash it remotely w/their firmware and then told me I had to buy a new modem, I'd say a hammer was a nice start. This was after 2 years of having to tell the phone "support" how to do their jobs every time we lost our ip address when the renew got screwed up. If it weren't for the support crew that was in Canada, I'd have dropped them *much* sooner.
One not so little issue with "They can afford to spend money on this stuff.", in most cases, it's "No they don't, They're busy dumping on something useless."
The PC's at my son's school are a nightmare of unpatched OS's and old hardware. They make such screwed up budget moves that the "Tech teacher" job gets cut every other year & put Zero $$ into upgrades or anything beyond basic "fix it if it breaks".
This in a school system that was K thru 8 in a single building, but decided that they needed to split it K-4 and 5-8 and declare them to be a Primary & the Middle schools...In the same building. All they did was add 2x the admin jobs for 2x the expense. Yes, that's 2 principals with 2 support staff in the same building.
It gets BETTER (worse), it was later decided that they needed another school to be built due to expected demand (as enrollment was dropping) and they built a preK-2 school. Instead of using land they already had, they "offered" to seize or negotiate for yet another property. They managed to get it at well below market value, but nowhere near the tiny fraction they initially offered. (plus legal expenses)
Most of the admin staff seems to be VERY good at CYA and does little else, the school board seems to serve mostly as the "I'd like to get started in politics" training group.
RFID in addition to no beer on the beach? And no thongs, or the VERY large list of things verboten on the beach in OC. There's a beach curfew after 10pm as well. OCPD is very good at generating revenue in alot of ways, they're gonna have a field day with this. Overcrowded and over priced, you'll get a week's "all inclusive" vacation in Mexico or somewhere actually tropical for what you spend on just your week's rental in NJ. Add gas and "other" costs...EEK!
Or if you want further fun, go a bit South to Cape May beaches...Thou Shalt Not Share Beach Tags...Under penalty of law.
BTW, Strathmere's beaches are still free, tho I (as do most of us locals) avoid the beach in the summer. Spring and fall...Amazing what fun a near empty beach is.

http://www.sciam.com/article.cfm?id=hard-drive-recovered-from-columbia&sc=rss Has a more robust site and the orig tale.
Time for someone to look at some of the things that "didn't happen" in Stone Harbor or Avalon?
Not that such things would ever happen. Besides, all we gots t' do is reroute a few of da internet tubes an' nobody sees nutin'
No one can hear a lawyer scream.

" forcing the IETF to proverbially eat its own dog food "

Somebody might get xfered if it were.

Or just look into the webcomics/notabilty purge background. The wiki admin tactics in that "little" episode soured me on wiki.
(btw, they still defend the actions/admins from then)
They could have gone thru Apple first....

Yes, I bought a new modem...It was one for DSL.
The Tuit as the new unit of commerce. /they're round... //I know it not Fark, but I feel like slashies today ///yes, I know I'm going to hell for this
WHAM! WHAM! WHAM!
.1c, not too bad, I'll take 4 of em.
:-( NASA and innovate are 2 things that aren't going to happen anytime soon.
God was knocking & he wanted in bad.... (Footfall I think)
Be about 70 years (if ever) before it gets off paper tho
Alot of "Russian News" that makes it to the US seems to be of same quality as the old Weekly World News headlines.
Bad comparison, no cookie for you.

They come up w/an impractical, overpriced & crude application of the work they put to better use in a testbed van.

Yep, somewhen in the middle 60's Ford made a experimental Econoline van that was powered by fuel cells.
Need some sleep? Try
Somebody run to fark and grab a HaHa! guy to post here.
"Free at last" may be an overstatement, but it is a breath of fresh air.
...Or Not.
:-(
I wish we could do a similar setup where I work(a hospital system). But, HIPPA regs would prob nail both parties/partners to the rulebook cross
