I'm european so I don't know much what's going on there in USA. The thing I noticed is that most interesting news about OSS, and anti-microsoft seem to originate from California.
So I ask you: is that statement in my subject, true?
look, if it works for me, it means it is possible.
if it's possible, it means that any hardware wendor if he decided to - can make it work right out of the box, with the laptop he decides to sell. just like this HP laptop.
hibernation on my toshiba tecra 8100 with kernel 2.6.8.1 works perfectly, with latest kernel patches. I use debian so a line in/etc/apt/sources.list:
deb http://cp.yi.org/apt/hibernate./
makes sure I have latest hibernate scripts.
I just assigned 'sudo/sbin/hibernate' to "sleep" button in my session manager. I also had set up sleepd to hibernate when battery drops to 5% (which is usually 2 hours). And, yes - there is a glitch - if I hibernate with blender or glxgears running, then after restore the 3d acceleration gets screwed up, and sooner or later I want to restart Xserver anyway (graphic card is s3 savage).
Since license allows it - anyone interested can copy this manual and make slight changes so it will describe a distribution of his choice (like debian or gentoo)
After appearance of this manual I bet we should expect its clones appearing like mushrooms after a rain.
of course langauge shapes thought. it is almost impossible for assembler programmer with 10 year experience to grasp lisp. Oh well.. even switching from C to ocaml is pretty hard.
remeber to use a custom hosts file. It increases browing sanity a LOT. Much more than just using adblock and flashblock (which I use too).
Sometimes when I have to browse on someone's else computer I'm almost stunned by the number of ads that appear on sites. Yeah it's easy to get accustomed to comfort of browsing without ads.
So... don't wait any longer! install custom hosts file NOW!
BTW: I'm curious if it will soon be included into some of linux distros by default, it would be great - self maintaining and updating custom hosts file... (it works with windows too, but I doubt it will be a part of default windows install anytime;)
thank you this marketing rant was brought to you by 3 straight days awake and sixty coffees)
Once I made 3.5 days=84hours straight. Wihout coffee at all (I just don't drink coffee - strong tea is enough:). After that I slept about 36 hours. yet - I made my (student) work on time.

see? I'm not that typical too, lest people around (including me) do lack some power. (and isengard is supposed to have more power than some absurd shadow)
The figures assume a 3GHz processor but the focus is on gaining speed by code optimisation rather than hardware because the BBC wants Dirac to be usable on a broad range of devices.
Who on the world has 3GHz processor in his desktop computer? Certainly not me, not my friends or relatives, nor even my boss, who has 2.4GHz.
bad news for those who don't wnat to switch to X.org because of some weird uncomprehenshible reasons. (not enough time to fiddle once again with configuration, too lazy, sick mother, etc...)
just two nights ago I wondered whether I should post "ask/." on how to make a 3d mouse. Such device will be very useful for debugging my CAE program (calculating concrete) that I write for my PhD.
now I'm off to make this mouse and see how it works.:))

"[W]hat is the incentive to upgrade?"
I want to know that too. I'm running Win98SE without any trouble. Why should I upgrade to Longhorn?
you shouldn't, unless you plan to upgrade your hardware too.

fry: can't we just be together?
leela: listen - you are a man, I'm a woman. We're just too different.
ATTN: link in parent post is not for office. and very disgusting too.

repeat after me: I belive in GPL.

as a remainder - we had eye transplant, which was not exactly eye, but the cornea was transplanted.
nonetheless whole discussion there is actually interesting, and the subject is related.
so... we got a new category here, "digital" and the first article in that category is about the end of The_Beg^W Alpha.
I don't get it,
afaik cell phones do not use AM frequencies, right?

(Web will continue to be capitalized when part of the more official entity, World Wide Web.)
helloooo there is a thing called "wind-chill-effect"
no, really I mean: shouldn't it be world wide web?
this is pretty, but unreadable
I just wanted a show
The worst movie ever was named:
Bikini Bimbos in the Avacado Valley of Death
(Yes.. it's a real movie.. it's simultaneously terrible and great-in-an-Ed-Wood-sort-of-way).
I just cannot resist: ROTFL!
It's been said thousands of times, but after this comment I cannot resist:
:)
it's zero, zero, zero. Zero there!
When I saw this article I wondered at first why there is no 'it's funny, laugh' sign here. Now I know. It was much funnier without it
oh well :)

I'm not sure, but I think it's fourth time. lemme check...

he should have done analysis of linux users too!
oh, I feel so unimportant.
