    I don't want to string anyone along here, but let's not harp on her minor credentials. While they struck a chord in some people, joining the chorus of citizens at fever pitch won't fix Equifax's systems that are baroque and in need of fiddling on a scale we haven't seen B4. It's important to note that the movement of filing key lawsuits will work in unison and reach a crescendo at some point. The drum beat of progress will necessitate major reforms that will even the score and serve as the prelude for improved security. The measure of any company in a situation like this is whether they change their tune and raise the bar, or have their finale.

  4. Re:Spiritual successor of Nexus 5 on OnePlus 3T Smartphone Featuring Snapdragon 821 Launched (hothardware.com) · · Score: 1

    I replaced my Nexus 4 with the OnePlus 3 in July and have been very happy with it. The OnePlus 3 has great battery life, it runs and charges super fast and it can get a GPS lock outside nearly immediately without any network assistance. I used the OnePlus 3 during a weeklong backpacking trip in August and was shocked that it was able to log GPS all day and still have plenty of battery left at the end of the day. I imagine the 3T will work even better due to the Snapdragon 821 (~10% performance increase over the 820) as well as the higher battery capacity. Just be aware that Verizon and Sprint networks do not work with OnePlus devices.

  5. Good question. Based on a logarithmic fit curve of the IMDb Top 250 movies (with an R^2 of 0.97), it would appear that larger lists would still contain movies with relatively high ratings. Currently the lowest rating on the Top 250 list is 8.0. Extrapolating from the fit curve, here are some other possibilities:

    - a Top 500 list would have movies with a rating of >= ~7.8
    - a Top 1000 list would have movies with a rating of >= ~7.6
    - a Top 2000 list would have movies with a rating of >= ~7.5
    - a Top 10000 list would have movies with a rating of >= ~7.1

    It would be nice if IMDb revamped their top movie list so that one could arbitrarily choose the number of titles to show.

Back when I first started using Linux in 1995, I couldn't get the 'top' utility to run after a kernel update. I was only a kid at the time, and for whatever reason I figured the best approach was to just email Linus Torvalds himself to ask how to fix it. Little did I realize that would have been like emailing Bill Gates for help because a driver didn't install correctly on Windows. Surprisingly, Linus wrote back and explained that I needed to update my version of procps (or whatever it was called at the time). Linus, if you are reading this comment, I'd like to say thanks again for the tech support. ;^)

    From the Ars Technica article it looks like they are targeting PCs, Macs and console platforms for the new release of Star Control. To me it seems like mobile platforms would also be well suited for this game, as it shouldn't need the latest and greatest graphics capabilities. When SC2 was released, it could actually run on an underpowered 286, even though 486s were popular at the time. Why not just open the blinds before bedtime and turn off the lights progressively at night... or whatever the magic is... that does this?

    It may not be as simple as staying indoors and opening blinds or reducing lighting at night. The article I read yesterday (here) said the test subjects were exposed to 400% more sunlight when camping outside compared to their usual indoor environment... so sun exposure may also play a role. Considering that Vitamin D (which the body synthesizes in the form of cholecalciferol from sun exposure) acts contrary to melatonin levels (which spike during sleep), perhaps sun exposure provides a strong natural cue for the body's melatonin level to surge at sunset.
