    I'd like to see if there was any work done describing how gender affects the ability to drive and talk on the cell phone. I've heard that women are more adept at multitasking and it would be interesting to see if their reaction times are better while talking on the phone than men's.

    Yeah, I tend to agree that you might need think a little harder about what the consequences of such actions would be. It's not like we're talking about a move to Denver here... we're talking about a move to an opressive country that has human rights issues and tight government control.

    I recommend extreme caution.

    Forests actually facilitate the evaporation of water into the atmosphere through transpiration. There was actually some serious thought by Colorado policymakers to clear some land of trees to increase the surface runoff to refill reservoirs.

    So I'm not sure that forests "hold a massive amount of water" so much as they transfer massive amounts of groundwater into the atmosphere. Important still, to be sure, and certainly not something to be screwed around with if you don't what might result from your actions.

    Just think of all the horrible events in history that can be attributed to one group of people persecuting another group. Regardless of what group you belong to, you're not all that different from anyone else. The more we realize that, the better off we'll all be.

    I know very little about engines beyond some basic theory... but it seems to me that you need to burn fuel to drive pistons in an internal combustion engine and you need heat for steam turbines - would there be any practical way to combine the two?

    I bought an xB a couple weeks ago. Originally, I wasn't crazy about the looks of the "toaster", but now I *kind of* like it. But the things is, I'm 6.5' and I wanted a compact car for the mpg it would get me on my 30 minute San Diego commute. And when you're six and a half feet looking at Civics and Corollas it's a dream come true to sit in an xB. I've got headroom... HEADROOM, for god's sake!

    I think the "global warming isn't human caused" crowd suffers from a lack of perspective. In the same way that an asteroid coming within a few hundred thousand miles of earth is a "close call" for astronomers, a 1 degree C change in global temperature over a hundred years is really fast. Things just don't happen that quickly in the natural world. And it's pretty crazy that the global temperature changes in the last 100 years coincide nicely with the industrialization of the world.

    As long as they need to obtain a warrant first, I don't see the big deal.

    Not to mention compaction of soil due to roads built to service these windmills, leading to increased erosion, sedimentation of waterways, and more dust. And the effects on wildlife like habitat fragmentation, reduction of forage, and killing migratory birds. And wasn't there a recent study posted to slashdot about the potential effect windmills could have after reducing the engery of natural air currents?

    I'm not saying looks are the only trade-off with windmills - there are others. I guess it just underscores the fact that there is no perfect solution.

    The visual pollution is crazy with wind farms. Nothing like industrial machinery stretching across hill and dale to make you want to get out an enjoy mother nature. No, I'd almost rather have nuclear power plant IMBY than a wind farm.

    I've been in on a Cisco VoIP intranet system from installation thru implementation and then to the point of realizing it wasn't doing for us what we wanted it to do and what we were promised it would do. I was at a school district and we had some requirements for some pretty strict call routing rules that made us look to an Avaya solution. I was there when we installed that as well.

    What have I learned about VoIP and different companies? Mostly that one company's management tools are a world of difference away from another's.

    Sure, global warming will create more arable land in Greenland... but only at the expense oflosing arable land in the desert formerly known as Iowa and similar temperate regions. Not to mention the loss of any arable land in Florida as well.

    I find it really sad and really scary that we as a country are still debating whether or not global warming is somthing we should be taking care of (heck, some are even arguing about whether global warming even exists). Isn't it about time we move on to arguing about which is the better method to combat it?
