The reality TV aspect of the the Hunger Games doesn't really appear to be that hugely important, at least in what I've read so far [book 1 and half of book 2]. While the games may be looked at as entertainment for some, it's stated early on that the main reason for the games is as a form of punishment for a rebellion years before. It's a form of social control, a pure display of power by the capital. The game makers want the games to be entertaining, 1) because the capital likes entertaining games and 2) because the districts are forced to watch their children get slaughtered and it's more torturous this way. There's a major theme about keeping up appearances for the audience and playing a somewhat assigned role, but that's not just a reality TV mechanic, that's just life.

My prediction is that 10.10 will remove the ability to run unsigned content (after all, it's free to get a signing key.) And 10.11 will probably require all precompiled applications to be acquired through the App store (except on the Server version of the OS, for which the option to run unsigned binaries will almost certainly remain.) 10.9 will keep the defaults, as it will take some time to get a critical mass of non-App store developers signing their work.

That'll make my life as a software developer a living hell. Kinda throws off the automatic background compilation stuff Eclipse does, and the whole rapid prototyping I do in Python with interactive shells. I'm not sure that's exactly what they're going for.

Funnier yet, they still have to pay $50 plus whatever their service provider wants for streaming over a stupid damn phone anyway.

Huh? This device has nothing to do with phones. It's software that goes on a windows machine that happens to be packaged on a USB stick that's branded as Apple iPad6 TV. On another note, I'm beginning to associate the "Pssh, I not own a smartphone" crowd with the "Oh sorry, I don't own a TV" crowd. It's fine either way [with / without a TV / smartphone], but it doesn't make you superior in any way, and you don't need to go out of your way to make people know.
