As far as I'm concerned, EA is the worst thing to ever happen to the games industry. The eat up all the good independent developers and small publishers, and have made the industry less diverse, and less willing to take risks with exciting new IPs.
They are the main force behind the "Hollywoodization" of the games industry, with bigger budgets and less creativity.
You know what the biggest selling game on gamecube is?
Super Smash Bros. Melee.
Do you know what that game is? IT'S A BUNCH OF MASCOTS FIGHTING EACHOTHER! The mascots aren't dead, they are still a huge deal for Nintendo, that's why they use them so much, they sell hardware and games. How much do you think "Mario Tennis" would have sold without Mario? 10 copies?
I'll explain it to you. There is not really open passport-free travel within the whole EU area. However, there is passport-free travel between SCHENGEN-countries. The Schengen agreement is a special border agreement between most EU countries and a few non-EU countries. I'm Norwegian, and we are not part of the EU, but we are a part of Schangen, and thus we can travel without a passport to all other Schengen countries.
The United Kingdom has not signed the Schengen agreement, and thus you still need to show your passport when entering Britain from any EU country.
Agreed. The damn Metroids near the end are VERY VERY annoying. I usually just let them grab me and powerbomb them away, but they come back so quickly...
You sissy:)
I am doing my third run of Metroid Prime, second run I got 100% items, but I missed some of scans for the research logs, which I need to unlock one of the galleries. (Yes, I am a completionist).
I should do it on Hard after, but well, I think it's gonna be Hard. Normal is challenging, but with enemies sustaining twice as much damage and inflicting twice as much damage, as well as being smarter, the game is essentially 4 times harder on Hard mode....
Metroid Prime 2 is allegedly going to be a lot harder than MP1. Should be fun:)
Actually, Nintendo has stated 6-10 hours of battery life for the DS. I would guess that it will be 6 hours when doing wireless multiplayer, and up to 10-11 for singleplayer games. The GBA SP had slightly better battery life than Nintendo said it would have, and Nintendo doesn't have a history for exaggerating when it comes to hardware specs. I am thinking it's more likely that 6-10 is an understatement rather than an overstatement.
Could the developer have been any more vague? Half of the questions were answered with "I think" or "it may" or "possibly".
Also, still nothing definitive on the battery life, so all evidence still points in the direction that it will suck, or Sony would have been more clear, seeing the bad press they are getting because of it.
PSP is sweet in theory, but unless it works as well, or close to as well a gameboy (in terms of sturdiness, playability and battery life), I don't seeing being a huge success.
I am importing my Nintendo DS in November, and I am alot more psyched about is, as Nintendo actually has demonstrated games on it and shown what it can do, and it looks fun! The graphics may not be jaw-dropping like on the PSP, but they are still "good enough" for handheld gaming, which is all that matters.
No, it's red laser. Just runs on a slightly different frequency. I don't recall all the exact details.
Of course it is POSSIBLE to change this, but nobody has done it yet.
No, that's just a legend. It reads discs in the same direction as CDs and DVDs. But the discs arent CDs or DVDs, they are of a proprietary format made by Matsushita.
The main things is that the GC does not read DVD formatted discs, even mini ones. You would actually have to change the frequency of the laser, or connect a DVD drive to it through some hook-up to get it to do that, and of course, that would stop the cube from reading real GC discs.
I do find it kind of funny that when Nintendo finally switched to optical discs, they got it right the first time, when it comes to stopping piracy. Nobody else have managed that.
Capcom isnt shying away from Nintendo. Where did you get that?
Viewtiful Joe was quite a big success on Gamecube, it's not strange that Capcom wants to port it to the PS2.
And Nintendo hasnt actually lost marketshare in a long time. They are pretty stable in the 2nd place in overall console race. They definitely havent lost market share since the release of Viewtiful Joe, it happened much earlier than that.
I'm guessing Nintendo will eventually go the way of Sega, becoming a more software oriented company.
Saying something a million times DOES NOT MAKE IT TRUE. I've heard this "speculation" so many times now it isnt even funny anymore.
When Sega went out of the console business, they were pretty much bordering on bankruptcy. Nintendo has billions and billions in the bank, still make loads of money every year, and they have themselves stated that they will never ever leave the hardware business.
Well no, but Mario 64 pretty much defined what true 3D gaming is. It was a revolutionary game with actual three-dimensional control, not just nice 3d rendering with 2D movement.
I've been seeing innovative controllers on the PC since time immemorial (ranging from my old Thrustmaster F-16 to a bizarre turtle-device which lets you control games by tilting the shell) and of the recent console-based controller innovations (dance-mats, eye-toy, pop'n boards), none of the most notable have come from Nintendo.
Haha, that's funny. Let's see. Nintendo invented the d-pad. (They actually have the patent for it). Nintendo made the first joypad with shoulder buttons. (SNES). Nintendo made the first joypad with an analogue stick (Nintendo 64). Everyone else copied their ideas.
Oh and the dance-mats arent a new invention at all. Bandai made something very similar for the Famicom/NES in the 80's! It's called Family Fun Fitness.
It's Mario Bros., like the parent poster said. Super Mario Bros. and Mario Bros. are two completely different games. Mario Bros. was an arcade game, that also was released for NES.
If you can actually back up with FACTS why they are killing themselves, please tell me. N64 was the 2nd largest console worldwide at the time. Gamecube is still 2nd on the market worldwide, slightly ahead of XBox.
I am not saying they havent made several bad decisions, they have, but "killing themselves" is such an overstatement. Financially they are a much healthier company than Sony, for example.
And they still make several million-selling console games every year. As far as I see it, Nintendo's biggest problem on the console side is that several of the 3rd party games very well on their systems, because Nintendo owners tend to spend their money on the 1st or 2nd-party Nintendo franchises first, and then buy 3rd party games if they still have money left. This has been improved lately tho, they are slowly gaining better 3rd party support, by working closer with big companies like Namco and Capcom.
I wasn't aware Nintendo needed to be "saved." Sure, they haven't neem quite the cash machine they used to be the past few years, but they still make very good profits, have huge franchises that continue to sell in the millions.
I wonder why everyone thinks that you _have to_ be number 1 in the console business to survive. Why can't there be 2 or 3 large console manufacturers? Of course they can't all sell equally, but if one sells 50 million and the other two sell 15-20 million each, why have they lost? If you make profit, you haven't lost. I find it hard to believe that a market share of 20-30% cant be profitable.
(And, Nintendo still has 100% marketshare of the handheld market.)
In my opinion, this is obviously due to saturation of the market. The japanese gets a lot of games, a lot more than we get in the west, and they always have.
If you look at the market as a whole, there are also far more consoles and games sold per person than in the US or Europe. Even tho the market in Japan is declining, it's still much bigger than the US or European market when you take the population into account.
Nintendo is worried about this, and they are partially trying to rectify this with the Nintendo DS: A handheld that does things differently than the traditional consoles or handhelds. It also be exiting to see what they're new console, ambitiously named "Revolution" will add to the gaming experience.
Sony's solution just seems to be "same formula, better hardware." We'll see if that will work in the long run, maybe the japanese decline is indeed a sign that gamers want something completely different.
Police Quest and Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards. Those were the days.
Sierra didnt really make anything worth anybody's attention the past few years tho, I guess it's understandable.
That's "skål", not, "skole". You have no idea how "skole" is pronounced, do you?:)
It's a bit hard to explain how to pronounce "skole" for someone with an English language background, but the e isnt silenced, and the "o" isnt like an english "o", but like a German "u".

Not everyone in the world is American :)
I live in Norway, so we wont get until around March.
