I've seen many drunken fights and brawls started in America and while I was traveling around Europe started by Army dudes on weekend leave. They never see the true consequences because they keep doing it. If they are getting severely punished then they are just stupid for continuing the same behavior over and over.

I meant that comment more in the context of the government and market merger. We as a society are mostly capitalist, but I don't want my government to be pure capitalist.
Capitalistic systems only work when the participants have faith in the system -- when that faith collapses, for whatever reason, you get a recession. And that's a normal and accepted part of the cycle.
Seems like a pretty silly yet serious weakness for such a widely promoted system.
I'd like to point out that underachieving is not reaching ones full potential. What the GP is saying is that one should be happy with their own full potential.

I think it is ridiculous that one's future is based mostly off of one's actions when they were young and stupid. I regret many a things and they have had a huge impact on my life. Its silly to think these kids know better, and ruining their future to make them understand is the worst possible punishment. Such a punishment doesn't teach them anything except that the authority in charge of them knows nothing of the proper use of power and leadership.
