  1. Re:Not surprising really on Chinese To Supply 600 MW Wind Farm In Texas · · Score: 1

Yeah it was a cheap shot (ha ha sorry about the pun)!

However as you know China is known for cheap knockoff crap. Its a fact. If you don't think so, you are welcome to you opinion on whatever planet you may be living on.

    1) Did you even read your link, or your post? So your saying.... "No NOTHING is manufactured in China, only assembled there." You didn't link the others, but I can tell you very little is manufactured in China, though it may be assembled there. So no they don't have the knowlege or technology to do anything but have cheap peon slaves in an assembly line plugging things developed elsewhere (Korea, Singapore, Taiwan, etc...) together. This article is about stuff being manufactured in China and then being assembled in Texas. Now this is a big generalization, China does have some areas under its hat, but generally speaking they are known for cheap labour able to produce a lot of crap for cheap available for walmart.

    2) Are any of these products produced anyplace else or is it exclusively in China? That is you cannot compare a product to another if another one doesn't exist. Also Lenveo owned and put together in China... Also Japan might have a thing or two to say about China's hold on Sony's technology and its development, ditto for Nintendo.

    3) You are comparing the technology of an iPod (not developed in China by the way) to that of a wind turbine, perhaps not the most just comparison. Its apples and oranges in terms of fields.

    4) Its one thing to outsource your consumer music needs to China, its another to do the same for your National power needs. Just sayin'... For example lets make the example a bit more serious. For a nuclear power reactor, are you going to take the design and manufacture from:

    A) USA,
    B)France,
    C)Japan,
    D) Canada,
    E) Russia, or
    F) China?

How about if F) is 20% cheaper?

  2. Not surprising really on Chinese To Supply 600 MW Wind Farm In Texas · · Score: 1

If anything in this article is news its that its China and not some other country. Hopefully they are made better than most Chinese crap.

I know I personally went on a tour of a new wind farm (just under 200MW, 86 2.3MW turbines I believe or something like that) on Wolfe Island in Ontario, Canada. Everything excepting the base infrastructure was make in Denmark, shipped to New York, then Barged to Ontario. They (Denmark) are world leaders in that technology, which is why they are shipped from there. They are also monitored by Siemens in Denmark as well (as well as locally).

Its the same thing as when I also went on a tour of a solar farm in also in Ontario, the panels were all built and transported from California, because that is where the expertise and technology is located. Again they also monitor in California as well as locally the farm.

I mean ideally we would have these technologies locally in Canada, but due to shortsightedness on the part of our Government, none of the infrastructure is in place. I believe the largest solar panel manufacturing facility owned by a Canadian company is actually located in Germany as that government was willing to front matching capital of up to 50 million dollars, Canada wouldn't match anything. So now Germans primarily get the benefit of that facility, in both jobs, product, and technology.

Anyway I was not aware that China had inroads into this technology hopefully for Texas sake they do, as one of the big components to cost feasibility is A) How much maintenance will the windmills require, and B) what is the lifespan. If they require tons of work or don't last very long, they could be in trouble. Of course perhaps they got a discount to make it worthwhile.

I was reading the other day about Finland's plans to ensure all their people have broadband access since they have made internet access a basic human right there. It seems to me that their model might be a better fit. They are also a pretty large country with a large rural decentralized population to deal with.

Considering I can get pretty much any movie via torrent for free, and for the most part I don't want them even then. Its a pretty simple principle. Make a shitty product, and people will not want it. Sure you might fool a few with hype, but after being fooled a number of times, even that becomes an ineffective business plan. Off the top of my head I can't think of one good movie this year. If I look up online to see what actually came out I can only fine two I would even classify as "pretty good". 1) Watchmen - Not because it was a good movie, but because it was the Watchmen, and 2) Star Trek - Despite its flaws I did enjoy it, mostly as I thought the new actors did a good job capturing the original cast.

I read somewhere that despite the claims of the media association, more movies are released today than ever, roughly double that of 5 years ago. Which if you pay any attention to what they have been saying, really makes little sense. The well of my tears has run dry for these bums a long time ago.

This is the same scam/profiteering that the book cartel does with hardcover vs softcover books. Sure you can pay 30$ for a hard copy when it comes out, or wait a year and buy it for 10$ when the softcover comes out. The only reason to do this is to artificially inflate the more expensive hardcover sales. I guess they figure after a year everyone that is willing to shell out for the hardcover already has, might as well now release it for the cheapo people now... I am not sure how entire industries get away with this sort of activity (not to mention paying 35% premium in Canada compared to the US to buy a book produced and distributed in Canada when the dollar is at par). There is a name for these type of people. They are called "crooks".

As much as geocities is horrible I don't think it holds a candle to "Myspace" web monstrosities with music and flashing crap. Geocities was good because it was the first big thing that let you host "stuff" for free. Now freehosting services are a dime a dozen, geocities isn't really needed, not to mention the myspaces and facebooks of the world now. However back in the day, if you didn't want to pay to host your own stuff, or didn't want to mess around a lot of dynamic IPs, host updaters, and setting up a private webserver and dns server (or pay for web creation software, or even bother to learn html) for the absolute free experience for a personal web page geocities was there. Again, now there are tons of free services out there, and pay ones that are not nearly as expensive as they used to be. Most noobs used it to basically say "Hi look at me, I am on the web!" which was served by MySpace and now Facebook really. ...and before you respond yes I know my geocities site is crap and I haven't updated it in years. I read the ruling but not all the way through the policy, and in this the devil is in the details. Time will tell how this works out. However experience tells me from the very hearings put on by the CRTC that the telcos are quite willing to lie and BS about what is the current state and why they need to do what they say they need to do. It was already shown from Bell's own reports that the crap falling out of their mouths in protest about the need for file shaping due to potential network congestion was utter garbage.

So the question is who is going to monitor, force compliance, or enforce this? CRTC? So far they seem to have no teeth whatsoever.

As for the notice, because of the monopolies this is mostly a joke. So what they give you notice before screwing you? Is that supposed to make you feel better, more engaged? "Oh by the way, we are going to screw you royally by this date and their is nothing you can do short of dropping us and not having internet access so too freaking bad" Why don't they just take a photocopy of some guy giving me the finger and mail that to me as notice for all the good it will do anyone.

Here is how I see it playing out.

Bell: "I need to slow peoples connections!"
    CRTC: "Why?"
Bell: "Because we don't have enough capacity."
CRTC: "Why don't you build more?"
    Bell: "Too expensive."
    CRTC: "What do you propose?"
Bell: "Here is some reports we made up to support our decision."
    CRTC: "OK."
    Bell: "Exceelllleent!" (arching fingers)

Nothing will be independent. CRTC will depend on teleco expertise to TELL them what is required.

    In a word. Lame.
