Yes this is what I have been running into the last couple of years. My solutions all pretty much the same in that I will likely be leaving over the next year or so because I have had enough. It has gotten to the point that even the Scotty principal doesn't work. I do a ton of work for these guys and get zero respect for it, which incidentally is also reflected in my pay. One of my chief problems is that I am a technical person working with a bunch of technological troglodytes. Not only do they not understand what I do, they really have no interest how hard some of the things I do for them are, only that I produce. Despite me trying to train them into reasonable time frames for requests, increasingly everything needs to be done "yesterday". I do not function with a project management type arrangement, it is more like daily triage, and I take flack at times when inevitably some lower priority stuff falls off the cart. I basically work as a Data Analyst by the way. Half the time I am so rushed and pushed, that I wonder if I ever made mistakes, because sure as hell no one is checking my work. What aggravates these issues even more is the fact that I am now involved with meetings and projects where I am the lowest rung on the totem, yet somehow I am running both meetings, projects, and doing all the actual work. All this without respect, nor adequate compensation. Now I get paid ok, but when I am the lowest paid guy in the room that angers me, also I think that the amount you make also garners some respect as well. So anyway my two solutions are to A) get out of the technical field and into management. The problem being I like being technical, and I dislike being a manager. Though perhaps if I had some actual clout or power I might not mind. The second solution B) is basically stay in the technical field, but move to a business area comprised of mostly technical types that understand one another. This is a pretty specific job description so that may take awhile to find one that meets that criteria.
Anyway I am sure many of you have faced the same situations. I have been in mine for years and have done nothing in my complacency but get bitter. I hope to change that this year.
They are not all working in concert other than to take over if one fails, say from a lightning strike and electrical malfunction, another takes over. I am guessing here that if the input stops, an additional computer is brought online.
Or they all just run all the time in parallel, and they are supposed to all be excatly the same so if one or more fail, the others just keep going...
Hence the whole redundant part. If they were designed to give different responses they would be unique and thus not very redundant.
I suspect that the sensors are also built in the same way, however may be more susceptible to a localized problem, like a lightning strike in a particular place or if the food truck hits the sensor bundle or something. Dunno just guessing.
Only happened like 3 months ago or so. Media put most the blame (for good or ill) onto the pilots. Though that blame was transferred onto the carrier for not training, having enough of, or paying its pilots well. So these were inexperienced pilots that had been flying non-stop for days without sleep, and then faced with an emergency situation. Perhaps they failed to recognized it, or deal with it effectively, or perhaps there was nothing they could do, however it was in their hands, and turned out a tragedy none the less.
yes because every1 uses perfect grammar and spelling all every forum I know, that's for sure! Slashdot is the only one with people anal or OCD enough to actually point it out.
Rich kids that go to public school already know what this is all about.
When one is artificially paid for a commodity that is normally without value, the acquisition of that commodity for sale is just good business.
In other words I get paid 10 bucks for an A, I well pay you 5 bucks to get it for me, and make a tidy sum, or "buy your classwork from your poor student friends for better grades".
Oh well at least they are learning something! America's future at work!
or to take away from an 11yr old's accomplishments...
but is a Community College seriously giving out degrees in astrophysics?
What other certificate course do they have? a 12 month Doctorate in Rocketry Science?
Perhaps a 6 month Masters in Physiology with a special emphasis in Cardiology.
You can even double major in Small Engine Repair, and this week we have specials if you combo with Massage Therapy or Hair Design.
Anyway joking aside I am sure it was a wonderful experience for him, and I would guess the parents have a large role here in motivating him, likely by promoting the idea of education and learning as both desirable and fun. Genius or no, he is probably a smart kid who is likely mature for his years.
As an out of work GM software engineer, I would hack t-mobile, but I got a raid in 20min...
I kid, I kid.
Although I do play WOW now and again. I just had a thought. Most hackers in the past I had always thought were those individuals who are interested, pretty smart, and have a lot of time on their hands, like kids, and out of work people.
Now of course both those groups of people can spend inordinate amounts of time playing WOW! I just kind of wonder how big a dent WOW is putting into the Hacking community?:)
'Leet Haxxor 1: We are taking down t-mobile this weekend! OK so Phiber Optik you... Phiber Optik: Whoa whoa! Soory Braa! I got Uldar content to do! Gots to get me raid on if you know what I am sayin'! Booya! BlackHatz: Ya I got a guild run too, sorry. Maybe next week. 'Leet Haxxor 1: Fine fine, I might as level my death knight then...
Hey Ontario, Newfoundland called. They want their jokes back!
So hows that whole GM thing working out for you? EI eh? Lazy buggers! I hear no one has jobs there. Talk funny too! Well anyhoo, off to the oil to work smell ya later!
The problem, and what I believe is still before the CRTC is that ALL internet is Throttled.
Basically all internet is provided by two companies: Bell, and Rogers Communication. Phone and Cable respectively.
Independent ISPs buy their service from one or the other.
The Independents complained to the CRTC that this was an unfair buisness practice by Bell, that they are slowing their users connection. Bell's argument is that its is a fair playing ground because they treat their own customers like crap, and if they don't throttle the whole internet will explode!
Teksavvy IS throttled, however I believe it is one of the few that currently host a service that if you download and configure some software you can get around the throttling. From what I understand it takes a bit of doing though, and I suspect at some point or another Bell will close that door, in which case another will have to be found.
Give me a Codec that can handle subtitles/multiple language subtitles easily and properly!
Not only is it a pain in the ass to load about a billion Codecs just to have things "work" but you must do it in such a way that all the planets are aligned, and pray/hope that nothing has changed a whole lot since the last time you did it. This is seriously something that should be easy but it is not.
Back to the subtitle thing, nothing is worse than getting all excited to watch Das Boot or something, and then realizing that not knowing German may really effect your understanding of wtf is going on...:) OK OK whatever, its me watching Anime TV shows from Japan. That's even more messed up trying to figure out without any subs!
Not to mention the "little" distinction of women getting pregnant. Which is something that men simply cannot do.
Not to put it bluntly but numbers may be down because some women choose (or oops) to have children early in life. Attending later on is more difficult and thus numbers would be down.
Many of these would not attend university. Some do. Some guys don't attend due to the responsibility also. Some don't
Statistically if that is what we are speaking, I would bet this effects negatively women than men (and by that I just mean that less actually may go because of that determining factor). Yes some single mothers also go. The difficulty curve just goes up and likely the numbers go down again.
In any event this natural biological function will account for some statistical variation, and likely that variation will tend to favor males.
You can make the same arguments for simple statistical arguments for workplace equality.
That is not to say that is the only factor, only that is a significant one that is ignored usually in the name of equality.
Granted I didn't RTFA, so I have no idea how they came up with their numbers nor how they did their statistics. If it was based on a ratio or per/capita it wouldn't be too bad a description other than that is all it is. Trend is simply over time.
If your a Pro you back up all your important data anyway, so it is a moot point. Likely you even have some remote back up. There are services out there. Use Google, it ain't hard. In a pinch you can just email yourself some attachments in Gmail. Not good for media files or anything large, but if you want to save some key documents or your tax returns etc... Privacy may be an issue, but if your really prickly about that, then just encrypt it (though make sure you can decrypt easily later).
If it is a friend or family member who has just lost everything: Look very superior, point at them, remind them they should have backed up, and how stupid it is not to do so, then laugh at them for a while. Once your eyes clear of tears, repeat. After 4 or 5 times maybe it might sink in, and you will have done them a great service. Send them a bill in the mail.
Harsh I know, but come on, this has been cannon for years, get with the program.
Honestly though most people's computers are totally full of crap. There are some things like Personal files, Photos, and the like that are irreplaceable, but most stuff is just media you can replace, or software you can replace, etc... and if it is important to you, then back it up for god sakes.
Seriously, if you save their data you are just re-enforcing and rewarding bad behavior.
One guy dressed up as Pinocchio, was really well done.
His buddy dressed up as the guy from Memento with a short sleeved white shirt, and black maker tattoos all over his arms and what you could see of his chest.
In the front shirt pocket of his shirt was a photo of his buddy dressed up at Pinocchio.
On the back he had written: "Don't believe his lies!"
Oh and as for the escrow idea and bad human rights.... I personally think credit card companies are a buch of jerks, but I still have to pay them. If I don't I will certainly get in trouble, not only with the one I don't pay, but ALL of them, and any other institution that lends me money, as my Credit Score will be shot (which is really just a representation of confidence).
Also the thought of Human Rights influencing business brings a tear to my eye.
That excuse would never hold water. China has been a human rights violator for a long long time, yet business is good. The USA does business with all.
ALSO on top of all that the USA has about zero international credibility in so far as human rights violations go right now. So unless they want to bring down the comedy house and drop the mike, they might want to hold off on that statement.
If you as an individual borrow a LOT of money, and then default on it what happens?
A) The person that you defaulted on stops lending. B) Others either stop lending or slow lending. C) Guildo breaks your legs.
Now what happens if your lifestyle is say a 1000$ a day crack habit, yet you only make 100$ a day? You are also unable to get anyone else to lend you the 900$ shortfall.
Well lets just say your lifestyle will change, probably with the addition of a cardboard box. Also your ability to buy crack will be limited, because no one will trade with you. Your currency is worthless, because you don't pay your debt, and you just print money of no value, hyper inflation occurs. You are now forced to use other methods of trade to feed your crack addiction.
Colourful as that description is, if you want a macro example, look at the USA, UK, Egypt and the Soyuz Canal after WW2. The UK wanted control of the Soyuz Canal, and together with France were willing to invade Egypt to get it. The USA fearing further instability and owning the largest portion of UK debt (which from the war was a lot) told the UK if they did this they would have to make good on their debt. The UK knowing that this would essentially destroy their economy quickly capitulated and did not invade Egypt. Does any of that seem remotely the same? Sure does to me.
Or they just turn into Planes... or half plane type things...
Yes this is what I have been running into the last couple of years. My solutions all pretty much the same in that I will likely be leaving over the next year or so because I have had enough. Ya they are silly like that. I suspect this guy is just a troll for comments though. Either that or he just ignores local media.

NAFTA is only accepted by the US when it is convenient to do so. They will do whatever they bloody well want.

Burn it. BURN IT ALL!
We have an abundant supply of birds pre-configured with BOTH perching AND the ability to fit into small places!
Just rig some mind control device to them and presto! An added side effect is camouflage as a freakin' bird!
Downside would be peta freaks.
Alternatively Birds with Freakin' Lasers attached to their heads! Muahahaha!
Would that count as biological warfare?
