I really don't think it should be a criminal offense... that would overcrowd an already overcrowded prison system with more people whose crimes were of a dubious nature. however, it should be treated the same as a minor traffic offense. you don't secure your computer and your isp catches you? you have to take a computer proficiency class.
did you read the article? that's not all they're trying to do. they're trying to get anti-spyware software companies to not remove data mining cookies. of course, microsoft seems to be the only one who agreed to not touch cookies in their anti-spyware program so far... and they're trying to undermine people deleting cookies. why don't these marketing geniuses tell people why they really don't want you to delete cookies... it takes money out of their pocket. see how much people care about that...
One advantage Apple has this time: The open-source FreeBSD operating system, of which Mac OS X is a variant, already runs on x86 chips such as Intel's Pentium. And Jobs has said Mac OS X could easily run on x86 chips.
you know, maybe microsoft should re-evaluate the windowsupdate idea to cope with botnets... instead of waiting for users to download the updates, microsoft should start sending their patches out as attachments in e-mails and trojaned into adobe photoshop torrents.
you must be new here... it's a *REALLY* stupid crapflood. if they spent as much time doing something constructive as they do badmouthing slashdot,... well, you know the rest.
it's a troll, (unless, of course, you are a meta-troll and already realize that...) even if this wasn't a troll (which it is), I wouldn't be as much concerned with the guy being fired as the guy being sentenced to death because OpenOffice crashed...
at least these ones require more effort than the usual +5 funny [insert lame simpsons/futurama/family guy reference]... and no matter how many times I see these kind of trolls, I still laugh... if you don't like them, you can always change your threshold to +3 or above... but that would be too easy, wouldn't it?
it doesn't seem like defacing the site would send much of a message--aren't they generally hosted on compromised boxes, by someone who has hundreds of other compromised boxes? wouldn't it be a better idea to find the people behind them (it's not too hard...) and go from there?
well... I am a masochist and enjoy doing things through a terminal rather than using the network panel, so it comes easy for me.
first of all, you need to enable 6to4 in the network panel under the drop-down menu "Network Port Configurations"... make sure it's checked. once that's enabled, I use a terminal and run the following commands: ip6 -u en0 (that starts the ip6 layer on your ethernet adapter) ip6config start-v6 en0 (that configures tunnelling on your ethernet adapter) ip6config start-stf en0 (that enables 6to4 on your ethernet adapter) then go to www.kame.net, if you see the dancing turtle, it works. I haven't bothered to automate this yet... everytime I reboot, I have to run the commands from the shell again.
it seems as if apple is kind of hiding this from people for now... but it's nice to know it's there and it works.
it took me 15 minutes to set up 6to4 on mac os x... I can access any ipv4 address or ipv6 address without any problems. but I guess that doesn't count as an "easy way...to try it out"
I hope their site is slashdotted so they have no chance of winning that stupid contest... who designed that site? a 12 year old girl with a lisa frank infatuation? what are they trying to market? all I could gather from their site is that they have no lives... at least magazines like us, people, etc. get paid lots of money to rank celebrities...
they were the slashdot of their time (mid 80's-early 90's.) the information was never accurate, a lot of the users were 10 years old, the porn was disgusting, no one knew how to spell...,but damnit, they were all we had.
if you do an ls of available commands, a lot of the commands are advertisements for blogs.

wow, a gnaa comment in an article about unfunny old memes!
what are the odds?
agreed.
the joke was dead four years ago... when I saw an all your base t-shirt at a hipster clothing store.
whoa. be switched to intel? next you're going to tell me app... *head explodes*
there's a whole bunch of screenshots here: http://shots.osdir.com/slideshows/slideshow.php?re lease=223&slide=1
it pretty much looks like BeOS did, big surprise there, eh?
and that's about as likely to happen as Apple switching to Intel.
wait a minute... what are we talking about?
One advantage Apple has this time: The open-source FreeBSD operating system, of which Mac OS X is a variant, already runs on x86 chips such as Intel's Pentium. And Jobs has said Mac OS X could easily run on x86 chips.
I fail to see the logic there...

...to include an additonal "malt"
don't you mean "malk"?
now with vitamin r!
I am glad to see more stories targeting the average age of slashdot users.
you obviously parsed his username incorrectly... it's "noid entity," a reference to the old Domino's Mascot.
god, you really ARE a dumbass.

How about a nice game of Chess?
(I apologize in advance... *somebody* had to make the reference)
actually, it was down before the article was posted. of course, I doubt the slashdot article is helping any...
if this didn't interest you, you should check out their sister magazine: "Slashdebrity - News About Nerds. Stuff That Really Doesn't Matter."

the article didn't explain it either... but a quick google search defined it as "goods and services tax"
